Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Plastics are resilient materials whose use in agriculture has resulted in improvement of productivity and quality of agricultural products and the quality of life for many people. Despite the contribution of agricultural plastics to the agrorevolution of the past 75 years, there is still insufficient understanding on how plastics benefit agricultural crops. Presently, the role of agroplastics may be particularly significant with the pressing need for more sustainable agriculture systems that strive for high efficiency in the use of resources such water, fertilizers, and pesticides. Additionally, under the challenging conditions imposed by climate change, plasticulture technologies provide essential tools for supporting agricultural production, particularly under highly productive and efficient protected agriculture systems, such as high tunnels, shade-houses, and greenhouses. Despite all the benefits of agroplastics, plastic disposal and the use of biodegradable plastics are increasingly important topics that require further research to reduce the environmental impact of plastic utilization.

This Special Issue will focus on “Plasticulture/Protected Agriculture Technologies”. We welcome novel research, reviews, and opinion pieces covering all related topics, including horticulture, crop and environmental physiology, agricultural engineering, irrigation, postharvest physiology, and insect and disease management.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
