Cover Story: This study introduces a robotic machine vision technique designed to improve poultry production. The method combines a robot with multiple YOLOv8 network-based detectors, which were applied to identify dead chickens and floor eggs in cage-free housing systems. The accuracy of detectors ranges from 85% to 91%. The new system is capable of effectively detecting floor eggs, whether on the litter or under feeders, and can also identify dead chickens in corners. The research demonstrates how intelligent bionic quadruped robots can help address the challenges of detecting floor eggs and dead chickens in cage-free environments. The findings offer a precision poultry farming strategy for poultry and egg producers to enhance the automatic detection and localization of dead chickens and floor eggs. View this paper
