Cover Story: Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental disorder of vision that often involves strong perceptual suppression of inputs from the affected eye. Using fMRI, we investigated whether a signature of amblyopic eye suppression could be detected in V1, V2 or V3. We found no evidence for a differential response in these areas for stimuli that were suppressed from conscious awareness vs. those that were clearly visible. This suggests that suppression in amblyopia involves higher-level cortical areas. View this paper
