Cover Story: Citations are often considered as a currency, measuring the value of scientific research; Katarina Juselius and Søren Johansen are among the most cited researchers in economics and finance. This paper considers citation data based on their publications. We develop two composite indices aiming at disentangling the authors’ impact on methodological and applied research. We then analyze them using a bivariate dynamic Bass model. The different shapes of the estimated diffusion curves suggest that the methodological literature is mainly driven by innovators, whereas imitators are relatively more important in the applied literature. The cross-fertilization between methodological and applied research is statistically significant.
