Cosmetics: Three New Journal Sections Established

Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, University of Miami, Miami, FL 33136, USA
The journal Cosmetics is a platform dedicated to the science and technology of cosmetics. It is my pleasure to announce the launch of new sections in this journal. The journal is now characterized by three main sections, each catering to a unique aspect of this multidisciplinary field. The following provides an editorial overview of these sections:
Cosmetic Formulations: This section is the backbone of the journal, focusing on the formulation, development, and evaluation of cosmetic products. It explores innovative ingredients, cutting-edge technologies, and the science behind product efficacy. Recent studies have highlighted advancements in delivery systems, such as nanoparticles liposomes and exososmes, which enhance the penetration and effectiveness of active ingredients. This section serves as a bridge between scientific research and practical applications, ensuring that cosmetic products are both safe and effective.
Cosmetic Dermatology: The intersection of dermatology and cosmetics is a critical area of study. This section addresses the impact of cosmetic products and cosmetic procedures on skin health, including anti-aging treatments, photoprotection, and solutions for skin disorders. It also examines the role of natural and bioactive compounds in promoting skin health. This section underscores the importance of evidence-based approaches in developing skincare solutions.
Cosmetic Technology: This section spotlights the breakthroughs in formulation chemistry, bioactive ingredients, and cutting-edge delivery systems. Recent advances in nanotechnology, for instance, have revolutionized product efficacy, enabling the targeted delivery of antioxidants and anti-aging compounds. Biotechnology-derived ingredients, such as plant stem cells and synthetic peptides, are redefining skincare by mimicking natural repair mechanisms. Emerging trends like AI-driven formulation tools and 3D-printed cosmetics further underscore the fusion of technology and creativity. Nevertheless, challenges persist, such as the scalability of lab innovations, the standardization of ingredient efficacy, and the need for transparency in claims.
Together, these sections reflect the journal’s commitment to advancing the field of cosmetics through rigorous research and innovation. By addressing all these areas, Cosmetics fosters a holistic understanding of the industry and its approaches towards beauty innovation.
