Cover Story: Globally, Indigenous populations face a significantly higher incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. This review examines the effectiveness of tailored exercise programmes in enhancing health outcomes for Indigenous individuals with T2D and identifies the programme characteristics most beneficial for this demographic. The findings indicates that such interventions, when culturally adapted and community-engaged, positively affect diabetes management, including glycemic control, BMI, and blood pressure, enhancing quality of life. Notably, outcomes are the strongest with consistent program adherence. The findings endorse community-based exercise as an effective intervention for Indigenous adults with T2D, underlining the value of cultural sensitivity and active community participation.
