Solar Energy: Addressing New Uses and Challenges in a Changing World
Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
Against the backdrop of mounting evidence of the climate emergency—which increasingly shapes political and media agendas at national, regional and global levels—and the consolidation of solar energy as a key pillar of the Energy Transition, this Topic is developed in collaboration with CIES'2026, XX Iberian Congress and XVI Ibero-American Congress on Solar Energy. Its aim is to ensure the continuity of a long-standing forum for technical and scientific dialogue in this field, which has evolved over more than four decades.
Some examples of new advances are improvements to new cell concepts, new thermal fluids, new thermodynamic cycle concepts, etc. Collecting information on these new advances in CSP is one of the goals of this Topic, focusing on the following ideas:
- Solar thermal energy;
- Photovoltaics;
- Energy management and storage;
- Solar resources;
- Sustainable solar buildings;
- Smart solar communities and cities;
- Education, software, training and teaching of renewable energies;
- Solar energy for the development and improvement of society.

Preprints.org is a multidisciplinary platform offering a preprint service designed to facilitate the early sharing of your research. It supports and empowers your research journey from the very beginning.
MDPI Topics is collaborating with Preprints.org and has established a direct connection between MDPI journals and the platform. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by posting their preprints at Preprints.org prior to publication:
- Share your research immediately: disseminate your ideas prior to publication and establish priority for your work.
- Safeguard your intellectual contribution: Protect your ideas with a time-stamped preprint that serves as proof of your research timeline.
- Boost visibility and impact: Increase the reach and influence of your research by making it accessible to a global audience.
- Gain early feedback: Receive valuable input and insights from peers before submitting to a journal.
- Ensure broad indexing: Web of Science (Preprint Citation Index), Google Scholar, Crossref, SHARE, PrePubMed, Scilit and Europe PMC.
