Reliable, non-destructive grading of fresh fruit requires simultaneous assessment of external morphology and hidden internal defects. Camera-based grading of fresh fruit using colorimetric (RGB) and near-infrared (NIR) imaging often misses subsurface bruising and cannot capture the fruit’s true shape, leading to inconsistent quality assessment and increased waste. To address this, we developed a 4D-grading pipeline that fuses visible and near-infrared (VNIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral imaging with structured-light 3D scanning to non-destructively evaluate both internal defects and external form. Our contributions are (1) flagging the defects in fruits based on the reflectance information, (2) accurate shape and defect measurement based on the 3D data of fruits, and (3) an interpretable, decision-tree framework that assigns USDA-style quality (Premium, Grade 1/2, Reject) and size (Small–Extra Large) labels. We demonstrate this approach through preliminary results, suggesting that 4D hyperspectral imaging may offer advantages over single-modality methods by providing clear, interpretable decision rules and the potential for adaptation to other produce types. Freemium, a popular business model in the digital economy, offers a basic product for free while charging for advanced features or value-added services. This pricing strategy enables platforms to attract a broad user base and then monetize through premium offerings. Customer characteristics and service price are important factors affecting customer choice behavior in such a model. Based on consumption stickiness, we consider a monopoly that provides value-added services by incorporating a multinomial logit model into a two-stage dynamic pricing model. First, we analyze the optimal pricing of value-added services under a normal sales scenario. We then consider optimal pricing during the marketing period under two strategies—level improvement for value-added services and quality reduction for a basic product—and analyze the applicability of each. The results show that increasing the value-added service level has a positive effect on the optimal price of value-added services, whereas reducing the basic product quality has no effect on the optimal price. Furthermore, the numerical simulation shows that when the depth of consumer stickiness is low, the optimal marketing strategy reduces the quality of the basic product, the price of value-added services should be higher than that in the normal sales period but lower than the price under the level-improvement strategy for value-added services; otherwise, improving the level of the value-added services becomes the optimal approach. This study provides a theoretical basis and decision support for product quality design and service pricing that applies to freemium platforms. Full article

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to examine the changes in brain metabolites and water molecule diffusion using chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) after 15 Gy of X-ray irradiation in a rat model of glioma. Methods: The glioma-derived cell line, C6, was implanted into the striatum of the right brain of 7-week-old male Wistar rats. CEST imaging and DWI were performed on days 8, 10, and 17 after implantation using a 7T-magnetic resonance imaging. X-ray irradiation (15 Gy) was performed on day 9. Magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were calculated for CEST and DWI, respectively. Results: On day 17, the MTR values at 1.2 ppm, 1.5 ppm, 1.8 ppm, 2.1 ppm, and 2.4 ppm in the irradiated group decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. The standard deviation for the ADC values on a pixel-by-pixel basis increased from day 8 to day 17 (0.6 ± 0.06 → 0.8 ± 0.17 (×10−3 mm2/s)) in the control group, whereas it remained nearly unchanged (0.6 ± 0.06 → 0.8 ± 0.11 (×10−3 mm2/s)) in the irradiated group. Conclusions: This study revealed the effects of 15 Gy X-ray irradiation in a rat model of glioma using CEST imaging and DWI. Full article

As ad-supported subscription models proliferate across over-the-top (OTT) media platforms, understanding the psychological mechanisms and perceptual factors that underlie consumers’ transition decisions becomes increasingly consequential. This study integrates the Uses and Gratifications framework with a contemporary motivation-based perspective to examine how users’ media consumption motivations and advertising attitudes predict intentions to adopt ad-supported OTT plans. Data were collected via a nationally representative online survey in South Korea (N = 813). The sample included both premium subscribers (n = 708) and non-subscribers (n = 105). The findings reveal distinct segmentation in decision-making patterns. Among premium subscribers, switching intentions were predominantly driven by intrinsic motivations—particularly identity alignment with content—and by the perceived informational value of advertisements. These individuals are more likely to consider ad-supported plans when ad content is personally relevant and cognitively enriching. Conversely, non-subscribers exhibited greater sensitivity to extrinsic cues such as the entertainment value of ads and the presence of tangible incentives (e.g., discounts), suggesting a hedonic-reward orientation. By advancing a dual-pathway explanatory model, this study contributes to the theoretical discourse on digital subscription behavior and offers actionable insights for OTT service providers. The results underscore the necessity of segment-specific advertising strategies: premium subscribers may be engaged through informative and identity-consistent advertising, while non-subscribers respond more favorably to enjoyable and benefit-laden ad experiences. These insights inform platform monetization efforts amid the evolving dynamics of consumer attention and subscription fatigue. Full article

This study aims to develop an optimal underwriting strategy for affordable (H1 and M1) and premium (L1 and M2) electric vehicles (EVs), balancing financial risk and sustainability commitments. The research is motivated by regulatory pressures, risk management needs, and sustainability goals, necessitating an adaptation of traditional underwriting models. The study employs a modified Delphi method with industry experts to identify key risk factors, including accident risk, repair costs, battery safety, driver behavior, and PCAF carbon impact. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to examine premium adjustments under different risk scenarios, categorizing EVs into four risk segments: Low-Risk, Low-Carbon (L1); Medium-Risk, Low-Carbon (M1); Medium-Risk, High-Carbon (M2); and High-Risk, High-Carbon (H1). Findings indicate that premium EVs (L1 and M2) exhibit lower volatility in underwriting costs, benefiting from advanced safety features, lower accident rates, and reduced carbon attribution penalties. Conversely, budget EVs (H1 and M1) experience higher premium fluctuations due to greater accident risks, costly repairs, and higher carbon costs under PCAF implementation. The worst-case scenario showed a 14.5% premium increase, while the best-case scenario led to a 10.5% premium reduction. The study recommends prioritizing premium EVs for insurance coverage due to their lower underwriting risks and carbon efficiency. For budget EVs, insurers should implement selective underwriting based on safety features, driver risk profiling, and energy efficiency. Additionally, incentive-based pricing such as telematics discounts, green repair incentives, and low-carbon charging rewards can mitigate financial risks and align with net-zero insurance commitments. This research provides a structured framework for insurers to optimize EV underwriting while ensuring long-term profitability and regulatory compliance. Full article

Direct electrification and hydrogen utilization represent two key pathways for decarbonizing the glass industry, with their effectiveness subject to adequate furnace design and renewable energy availability. This study presents a techno-economic assessment for optimal solar energy integration in a representative 300 t/d oxyfuel container glass furnace with a specific energy consumption of 4.35 GJ/t. A mixed-integer linear programming formulation is developed to evaluate specific melting costs, carbon emissions, and renewable energy self-consumption and self-production rates across three scenarios: direct solar coupling, battery storage, and a hydrogen-based infrastructure. Battery storage achieves the greatest reductions in specific melting costs and emissions, whereas hydrogen integration minimizes electricity export to the grid. By incorporating capital investment considerations, the study quantifies the cost premiums and capacity requirements under varying decarbonization targets. A combination of 30 MW of solar plant and 9 MW of electric boosting enables the realization of around 30% carbon reduction while increasing total costs by 25%. Deeper decarbonization targets require more advanced systems, with batteries emerging as a cost-effective solution. These findings offer critical insights into the economic and environmental trade-offs, as well as the technical constraints associated with renewable energy adoption in the glass industry, providing a foundation for strategic energy and decarbonization planning. The present study focuses on the attractiveness and perceived value of differentiated quality labels, such as the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), for agri-food products from Extremadura (Spain). In doing so, it addresses a gap in the scientific literature concerning consumer behavior toward products bearing these certifications. The results show that awareness of these quality schemes is significantly higher among middle-aged and older individuals, underscoring the need for more modern and targeted communication strategies. The findings highlight the strategic role of agri-food marketing in promoting certified products and emphasize the importance of bridging the generational gap in consumer education. Overall, differentiated quality schemes are perceived as strategic tools to enhance the competitiveness of local products, strengthen cultural identity, and foster sustainable rural economies. Furthermore, this study identifies a negative relationship between the consumption of certified products and the awareness of certification and a positive relationship with the willingness to pay a premium. Consumers with greater awareness tend consume these products less, although they are more willing to pay higher prices for items bearing quality labels. Full article

This article provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in cyber risk and cyber risk management, focusing on the mathematical models that have been created to help with risk quantification and insurance pricing. We discuss the main ways that cyber risk is measured, starting with vulnerability functions that show how systems react to threats and going all the way up to more complex stochastic and dynamic models that show how cyber attacks change over time. Next, we examine cyber insurance, including the structure and main features of the cyber insurance market, as well as the growing role of cyber reinsurance in strategies for transferring risk. Finally, we review the mathematical models that have been proposed in the literature for setting the prices of cyber insurance premiums and structuring reinsurance contracts, analysing their advantages, limitations, and potential applications for more effective risk management. The aim of this article is to provide researchers and professionals with a clear picture of the main quantitative tools available and to point out areas that need further research by summarising these contributions. Background/Objectives: To assess the optical performance of two refractive premium IOLs across pupil sizes and values of corneal spherical aberration (SA). Methods: Two refractive IOLs were evaluated in this study: Tecnis Eyhance and Mini Well. The surface profiles were obtained to calculate the through-object MTF (TO MTF) curves and simulate optotype images. Entrance pupil sizes ranging from 2 to 5.5 and three corneal models were analyzed in the simulation: an average population aberrated cornea, an aberration-free cornea and a post-Lasik myopic cornea. Results: For Model 1 and pupil sizes between 3.0 and 3.5 mm, Mini Well provided acceptable visual quality from far to near distances, whereas Eyhance struggled to maintain visual quality at distances closer than intermediate. For patients with lower-than-normal corneal SA (i.e., more prolate corneas, such as post-hyperopic LASIK) both IOLs exhibited a hyperopic shift in far focus. Conversely, for patients with higher-than-normal corneal SA (i.e., more oblate corneas, such as post-myopic LASIK), the shift occurred in the myopic direction. Despite the implementation of an optimized IOL power to circumvent any shift, the TO MTF nevertheless reflected the interaction between corneal and IOL SA. Furthermore, the Mini Well demonstrated increased tolerance to less negative SA values, while Eyhance exhibited behavior consistent with a monofocal lens for more positive SA values. Conclusions: Surgeons should consider each patient’s corneal asphericity and typical pupil diameter when selecting and calculating the power of the premium IOLs studied, particularly in patients with a history of refractive surgery. Studying consumers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for sustainable certification labels and preferences in consumption is a relevant issue for policymakers. Several studies have revealed a positive WTP a premium price for many certified products. The aim of this paper is to assess an overview of Italian consumers’ WTP for eight different sustainable certification labels and to collect information about their consumption preferences and perceptions in consumption. Participants were selected by stratified simple random sampling, using regional distribution, gender, and age as stratification criteria, to obtain a representative sample of n = 3600. Eight ordered logit models were estimated to understand how consumer sociodemographic characteristics influence the price premium. The results show important differences in WTP among different certification labels; a higher WTP emerged for ethical certifications than for environmentally focused labels. Younger individuals; women; and those with higher education, income and life satisfaction, as well as consumers in southern regions, were significantly more willing to pay premiums for certified products. However, a key finding for policymakers is that the stated price premium consumers are willing to pay falls significantly short of the actual higher costs of these products in supermarkets. Furthermore, insights into consumer perceptions and preferences revealed that quality and origin are perceived as key price drivers, while method of production holds less importance. It also emerged that consumers primarily seek a balance between quality and price, with only a small segment prioritizing certified products. Full article

Credit-linked notes (CLNs) are vital for transferring and diversifying credit risks in asset securitization, yet their application in China remains limited despite policy support. This paper optimizes China’s CLN pricing mechanism by developing the structured model incorporating the dynamic default boundary and the probability of government implicit guarantees. The model transforms the pricing problem into a semi-unbounded problem via partial differential methods, yielding an explicit pricing solution through Poisson’s formula. Empirical analysis reveals that government implicit guarantees are observed in systemically important institutions in the domestic CLN market and significantly reduce credit risk premiums, with Monte Carlo simulations indicating an approximately positive linear correlation between guarantee probability and CLN prices. Our results demonstrate the dual impact of implicit guarantees—lowering risk premiums while potentially hindering market discipline. This research advances China’s credit derivative pricing theory, offering institutions a pricing tool and further providing policy and practical suggestions for regulatory authorities. Full article

The recent losses and damages due to climate change have destabilized the insurance industry. As global warming is one of the most critical aspects of climate change, it is essential to investigate to what extent greenhouse gas emissions affect the financial stability of insurers. Insurers typically do not emit substantial greenhouse gases directly, while their underwriting and investment activities play a substantial role in enabling companies that do. This article uses panel data regressions to analyze companies in all insurance segments and in all geographic regions of the world from 2004 to 2023. The main finding is that insurers that increase their greenhouse gas emissions become financially unstable. This result is consistent in all three scopes (scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3) of emissions. Furthermore, the findings reveal that this impact is related to reserves and reinsurance. Specifically, reserves increase with greenhouse gas emissions, while premiums ceded to reinsurers decline. Thus, high-emissions insurers retain a significant share of carbon risk and eventually become financially weak. The results encourage several policy recommendations, highlighting the need for instruments that improve the assessment and disclosure of insurers’ carbon footprints. This is crucial to achieving environmental targets and improving the stability of both the insurance market and the economic system. Full article

This study investigates the influence of monthly income level (low, medium, and high) on consumer behavior regarding a newly launched cream cheese product enriched with berry by-products. A panel of 345 participants was surveyed, and data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests. Most consumers were environmentally aware, recognizing the impact of personal food waste and expressing support for food products incorporating by-products. Respondents also favored the use of renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the food industry. Higher income levels were associated with greater health awareness and increased acceptance of cream cheese with berry by-products, with the high-income group showing a greater willingness to pay a premium. Health benefits and the product’s natural character were the main advantages identified. Individuals with lower incomes were more open to trying unfamiliar foods when ingredient details were not provided, while higher-income respondents expressed greater hesitation and distrust toward new products. Willingness to try novel items decreased with income level. Statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were found between income groups for label reading, support for mountain dairies, and the influence of product origin, health benefits, nutrient diversity, pricing concerns, and consumer confidence in purchasing cream cheese with berry by-products. These findings are important for understanding how income affects consumer perceptions and willingness to consume innovative, sustainable food products like berry-enriched cream cheese, highlighting key areas for targeted marketing and product development. Tourist satisfaction of nighttime urban lakes as scenic areas, such as the Daming Lake, is influenced by multiple factors, which are crucial for tourists’ experiences and the sustainable development of these areas. This paper explores the factors impacting nighttime visitor satisfaction at the Daming Lake Scenic Area. Basing our studies on analysis of the literature and questionnaire surveys, the study constructs a visitor satisfaction evaluation index system based on the Expectancy-Disconfirmation Theory. Utilizing the revised importance-performance analysis method, the study identifies several significant influencing factors including the distinctive features of nighttime shopping products, the rich variety of nighttime tourscape and entertainment products, the aesthetically pleasing design of nighttime lighting products, the affordable price of nighttime dining products, and the diverse methods, reasonable pricing, and multimodal transit options of nighttime transportation. Furthermore, it finds the main factors that reduce tourists’ satisfaction in nighttime urban lakes include: premium pricing of nighttime shopping and dining products, transport infrastructure deficiencies, the cultural connotation of tourism products, and the safety of nighttime tourscape and entertainment products. This research provides insights to enhance satisfaction in urban lake scenic areas and expands the application of the tourist satisfaction theory. Full article

Smartphone-Based Sensing System for Identifying Artificially Marbled Beef Using Texture and Color Analysis to Enhance Food Safety

Beef fat injection technology, used to enhance the perceived quality of lower-grade meat, often results in artificially marbled beef that mimics the visual traits of Wagyu, characterized by dense fat distribution. This practice, driven by the high cost of Wagyu and the affordability of fat-injected beef, has led to the proliferation of mislabeled “Wagyu-grade” products sold at premium prices, posing potential food safety risks such as allergen exposure or consumption of unverified additives, which can adversely affect consumer health. Addressing this, this study introduces a smart sensing system integrated with handheld mobile devices, enabling consumers to capture beef images during purchase for real-time health-focused assessment. The system analyzes surface texture and color, transmitting data to a server for classification to determine if the beef is artificially marbled, thus supporting informed dietary choices and reducing health risks. Images are processed by applying a region of interest (ROI) mask to remove background noise, followed by partitioning into grid blocks. Local binary pattern (LBP) texture features and RGB color features are extracted from these blocks to characterize surface properties of three beef types (Wagyu, regular, and fat-injected). A support vector machine (SVM) model classifies the blocks, with the final image classification determined via majority voting. Experimental results reveal that the system achieves a recall rate of 95.00% for fat-injected beef, a misjudgment rate of 1.67% for non-fat-injected beef, a correct classification rate (CR) of 93.89%, and an F1-score of 95.80%, demonstrating its potential as a human-centered healthcare tool for ensuring food safety and transparency.
