Insects achieve millisecond sensor–motor loops with tiny sensors, compact neural circuits, and powerful actuators, embodying the principles of Edge AI. We present a comprehensive architectural blueprint translating insect neurobiology into a hardware–software stack: a latency-first control hierarchy that partitions tasks between a fast, dedicated Reflex Tier and a slower, robust Policy Tier, with explicit WCET envelopes and freedom-from-interference boundaries. This architecture is realized through a neuromorphic Reflex Island utilizing spintronic primitives, specifically MRAM synapses (for non-volatile, innate memory) and spin-torque nano-oscillator (STNO) reservoirs (for temporal processing), to enable instant-on, memory-centric reflexes. Furthermore, we formalize the biological governance mechanisms, demonstrating that, unlike conventional ICEs and miniturbines that exhibit narrow best-efficiency islands, insects utilize active thermoregulation and DGC (Discontinuous Gas Exchange) to maintain nearly constant energy efficiency across a broad operational load by actively managing their thermal set-point, which we map into thermal-debt and burst-budget controllers. We instantiate this integrated bio-inspired model in an insect-like IFEVS thruster, a solar cargo e-bike with a neuromorphic safety shell, and other safety-critical edge systems, providing concrete efficiency comparisons, latency, energy budgets, and safety-case hooks that support certification and adoption across autonomous domains. Maize (Zea mays L.), a vital crop for global food and economic security, faces intensifying biotic and abiotic stresses driven by climate change, including drought, heat, and erratic rainfall. This review synthesizes emerging biotechnology-driven strategies designed to enhance maize resilience under these shifting environmental conditions. We present an integrated framework that encompasses CRISPR/Cas9 and next-generation genome editing, Genomic Selection (GS), Environmental Genomic Selection (EGS), and multi-omics platforms—spanning transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics. These approaches have significantly deepened our understanding of complex stress-adaptive traits and genotype-by-environment interactions, revealing precise targets for breeding climate-resilient cultivars. Furthermore, we highlight enabling technologies such as high-throughput phenotyping, artificial intelligence (AI), and nanoparticle-based gene delivery—including novel in planta and transformation-free protocols—that are accelerating translational breeding. Despite these technical breakthroughs, barriers such as genotype-dependent transformation efficiency, regulatory landscapes, and implementation costs in resource-limited settings remain. Bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and field deployment will require coordinated policy support and global collaboration. By integrating molecular breakthroughs with practical deployment strategies, this review offers a comprehensive roadmap for developing sustainable, climate-resilient maize varieties to meet future agricultural demands. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) from human body fluids are valuable tools for biomarker discovery and for exploring the mechanisms underlying various pathologies, including infectious diseases. The translation of EV research into clinical practice is however hindered by the variability in EV pre-clinical investigations. Therefore, standardisation of analytical procedures and reporting policies is essential. Human serum is a key biological matrix for biomarker discovery and is commonly stored within biobanks. Here, we investigated different strategies for EV enrichment from small volumes of biobanked serum and evaluated their impact on EVs’ downstream analyses. EVs were obtained from 250 μL of biobanked serum using ultracentrifugation (UC), size-exclusion chromatography-based methods (ExoSpin-ES, qEV1-35 nm, and qEV1-70 nm), or ExoRNeasy (ER). The resulting EVs were subsequently characterised for morphology, concentration, surface phenotype, and multi-omics profiles. All methods successfully enriched small EVs expressing tetraspanins on their surface, although at different concentrations. The most efficient method for proteomics analyses was qEV1-70 nm, followed by ES, which was more susceptible to contamination by serum proteins. EV-miRNA cargo was effectively profiled in UC-, ES-, and ER-EVs, with the latter providing the broadest miRNA coverage. Our results support the feasibility of using biobanked serum for EV-based research and further highlight the importance of selecting appropriate EV enrichment methods, since they influence both miRNA and protein cargo characterisation. Payments for Ecosystem Services (PESs) have become a central instrument in global biodiversity finance, yet endangered species-specific PESs remain rare and poorly understood in implementation terms. Taiwan provides a revealing case: a three-year program paying farmers to conserve four threatened species—Prionailurus bengalensis, Lutra lutra, Tyto longimembris, and Hydrophasianus chirurgus—in working farmland across Taiwan and Kinmen island. Through semi-structured interviews with farmers, residents, and local conservation actors, we examine how payments are interpreted, rationalized, enacted, and emotionally experienced at the ground level. This study adopts Colaizzi’s data analysis method, the primary advantage of which lies in its ability to systematically transform fragmented and emotive interview narratives into a logically structured essential description. This is achieved through the rigorous extraction of significant statements and the subsequent synthesis of thematic clusters. Participants reported willingness to continue not only because subsidies offset losses, but because rarity, community pride, and the visible arc of “we helped this creature survive” became internalized rewards. NGOs amplified this shift by translating science into farm practice and “normalizing” coexistence. In practice, conservation work became a social project—identifying threats, altering routines, and defending habitat as a shared civic act. This study does not estimate treatment-effect size; instead, it delivers mechanistic insight at a live policy moment, as Taiwan expands PESs and the OECD pushes incentive reform. The finding is simple and strategically important: endangered-species PESs work best where payments trigger meaning—not where payments replace it. Full article

The development of energy systems toward a decarbonized economy is increasingly constrained not only by technological challenges, but also by deficiencies in the organization, coordination, and governability of sustainable financing. This study aims to substantiate an integrated conceptual model and a multi-level governance framework for the sustainable financing mechanism of energy system development under decarbonization, ensuring the alignment of financial instruments with transition strategies, performance indicators, and feedback mechanisms. The methodology combines a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed journal publications with an examination of international statistical and analytical data produced by leading global organizations, complemented by systemic, institutional, and comparative analytical approaches. The bibliometric analysis was conducted in 2025 and covered peer-reviewed articles published during 2017–2025, while empirical financial indicators were synthesized for the most recent available period of 2022–2024 using comparable time-series data reported by international institutions. The results indicate that despite global energy investments reaching approximately $3 trillion in 2024—nearly $2 trillion of which was allocated to clean energy technologies—a persistent annual financing gap for climate change mitigation in the energy sector remains. Moreover, to remain consistent with the Net Zero trajectory, investments in clean energy must increase by approximately 1.7 times by 2030. The synthesis of contemporary research and empirical evidence reveals a predominance of studies focused on individual green and transition finance instruments, accompanied by persistent fragmentation between financial flows, governance structures, and measurable decarbonization outcomes. To address this gap, the paper proposes a conceptual model that interprets sustainable finance as a governed system rather than a collection of isolated instruments, together with a multi-level governance framework integrating strategic (policy), sectoral, and project-level decision-making with systems of key performance indicators, monitoring, and feedback. The findings demonstrate that the effectiveness of sustainable financing critically depends on the coherence between financial instruments, governance architectures, and decarbonization objectives, which ultimately determines the capacity to translate mobilized capital into tangible energy infrastructure modernization and measurable emissions reductions. The proposed approach provides a practical foundation for improving energy transition policies and investment strategies at both national and supranational levels. Full article

The convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), known as Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), has emerged as a transformative paradigm for enabling intelligent, data-driven, and context-aware decision-making in urban environments to reduce the carbon footprint of mobility and industry. This review examines the conceptual foundations, and state-of-the-art developments of AIoT, with a particular emphasis on its applications in smart cities and its relevance to climate change management. AIoT integrates sensing, connectivity, and intelligent analytics to provide optimized solutions in transportation systems, energy management, waste collection, and environmental monitoring, directly influencing urban sustainability. Beyond urban efficiency, AIoT can play a critical role in addressing the global challenges and management of climate change by (a) precise measurements and autonomously remote monitoring; (b) real-time optimization in renewable energy distribution; and (c) developing prediction models for early warning of climate disasters. This paper performs a literature review and bibliometric analysis to identify the current landscape of AIoT research in smart city contexts. Over 1885 articles from Web of Sciences and over 1854 from Scopus databases, published between 1993 and January 2026, were analyzed. The results reveal a strong and accelerating growth in research activity, with publication output doubling in the most recent two years compared to 2023. Waste management and air quality monitoring have emerged as leading application domains, where AIoT-based optimization and predictive models demonstrate measurable improvements in operational efficiency and environmental impact. Altogether, these support faster and more effective decisions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring the sustainable use of resources. The reviewed studies reveal rapid advancements in edge intelligence, federated learning, and secure data sharing through the integration of AIoT with blockchain technologies. However, significant challenges remain regarding scalability, interoperability, privacy, ethical governance, and the effective translation of research outcomes into policy and citizen-oriented tools such as climate applications, insurance models, and disaster alert systems. By synthesizing current research trends, this article highlights the potential of AIoT to support sustainable, resilient, and citizen-centric smart city ecosystems while identifying both critical gaps and promising directions for future investigations. Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) has regional influence in the Caribbean, with a diversified economy focused on energy, manufacturing, and finance compared to the tourism-related economies of most of the other Caribbean islands. Notwithstanding, this has not translated into equitable opportunities for all, specifically for people with disabilities. A lack of disaggregated employment data thwarts effective policy planning for people with disabilities. This research sought to examine the barriers to their employment in T&T. Underpinned by the social model of disability, a concurrent mixed-methods approach was employed. Emanating from interviews with people with disabilities and key informants, challenges to employment access, employer perceptions, and apathy emerged as key themes, together with the underlying issues of a lack of legislation and inequitable access to mainstream education. The survey findings indicated that 64% of employers had never employed people with disabilities, 57% expressed neutrality regarding future employment of such individuals, and 69% had not introduced workplace accommodations. A key recommendation of the study is the establishment of an employer resource centre that assists employers in creating and maintaining inclusive workplace accommodations for people with disabilities. This study is the first in Trinidad and Tobago to examine these research objectives from multiple perspectives. Full article

While the international influence of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) on education policy debates is well recognized, the degree to which PISA findings drive actual policy reforms and classroom practices remain debated. Using PISA as a case, this article examines how educational research is translated into policy responses and practices in German federalism, focusing specifically on immigrant students—a key group within German education reform discourse. It analyzes the reflection of PISA findings from the 2000, 2018, and 2022 assessments on immigrant student performance in the resolutions of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the process of implementation by the federal states (Länder), and the effect on school-level practice. Framed by research knowledge mobilization theory, the article investigates the relationships among research production, mediation, and usage, clarifying the interplay between educational research, policy, and practice in Germany’s federal system. Historical analysis exposes consistent gaps between research-derived recommendations and binding, actionable change at both policy and practice levels, often due to challenges in developing evidence-based and consistently applied policy measures across the Länder. The article concludes with practical recommendations for improving the impact of interdisciplinary, policy-oriented research on policy and practice, considering the complexities of Germany’s federal governance. This study investigates Armenian editorial conventions for inscriptions and evaluates their compatibility and the possibility of their further integration with international standards of epigraphic editing for open access and equal use. It focuses on the Divan Hay Vimagrut’yan (Corpus of Armenian Epigraphy), launched in the 1960s, which introduced a systematic apparatus for distinguishing diplomatic transcriptions from interpretative reconstructions. Later Armenian publications often simplified these conventions, replacing specialized signs with typographic substitutes. While these changes improved accessibility, they also reduced palaeographic precision and created inconsistencies across editions. Through comparative analysis with the Leiden Conventions and the EpiDoc TEI framework, the research identifies both areas of alignment and points of divergence. Armenian conventions handle missing letters, restorations, redundancies, and abbreviations in distinctive ways, sometimes reassigning the meaning of symbols across different publications. This variation, if not explicitly documented, complicates digital encoding and risks loss of information. Methodologically, this study develops a digital heritage interoperability model that translates local Armenian editorial practices into machine-actionable standards, enabling their integration into international infrastructures such as EpiDoc and FAIR-based cultural heritage systems. The principal contribution of this work is the proposal of a dual-track encoding strategy. One track applies a granular mapping of Armenian signs to the full set of Leiden and EpiDoc categories, ensuring maximum interoperability. The other track preserves a simplified schema faithful to Armenian usage, reflecting local scholarly traditions. Together, these approaches provide both international comparability and cultural specificity. The conclusion is that Armenian inscriptions can be effectively integrated into global digital infrastructures by means of transparent documentation, crosswalk tables, and encoding policies that follow FAIR principles. This ensures long-term preservation, machine-actionability, and the broader reuse of Armenian epigraphic data in comparative cultural heritage research. Full article

The growing global environmental crisis calls for fundamental transformations in production and consumption systems, but the understanding of how circular economy strategies translate into quantifiable environmental benefits remains fragmented across sectors and geographies. The objective of this study is to synthesize current scientific knowledge on the circular economy as an environmental mitigation strategy, identifying conceptual convergences, methodological patterns, geographic distributions, and critical knowledge gaps. A systematic review combined with a bibliometric analysis of 62 peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2024, retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Springer Link and Wiley Online Library, was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The results reveal a marked methodological convergence around life cycle assessment, with Europe dominating the scientific output (58% of the corpus). Four complementary conceptual frameworks emerged, emphasizing closed-loop material flows, environmental performance, integration of economic sustainability and business model innovation. The thematic analysis identified bioenergy and waste valorization as the most mature implementation pathways, constituting 23% of the research emphasis. However, critical gaps remain: geographic concentration limits the transferability of knowledge to diverse socioeconomic contexts; social, cultural and behavioral dimensions remain underexplored (12% of publications); and environmental justice considerations receive negligible attention. Crucially, the evidence reveals nonlinear relationships between circularity metrics and environmental outcomes, calling into question automatic benefits assumptions. This review contributes to an integrative synthesis that advances theoretical understanding of circularity-environment relationships while providing evidence-based guidance for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers involved in transitions to the circular economy. This study examines how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) is linked to sustainable organizational performance, encompassing environmental, economic, and social outcomes through the capability-building mechanisms of green innovation (GI) and green organizational culture (GOCL) in emerging manufacturing systems. Drawing on the Resource-Based View and capability-based sustainability perspectives, GHRM is conceptualized as a strategic organizational capability that enables firms in developing economies to beyond short-term regulatory compliance toward measurable and integrated sustainability performance outcomes. Survey data were collected from 446 managerial and technical respondents in Ethiopia’s garment and textile industrial parks, one of Africa’s fastest-growing industrial sectors facing significant sustainability challenges. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with bootstrapping-based mediation analysis, the results show that GHRM is positively associated with sustainable organizational performance, with GI and GOCL operating as key mediating mechanisms that translate HR-related practices into measurable sustainability outcomes. The findings highlight the role of GHRM in strengthening firms’ adaptive and developmental sustainability capabilities by fostering pro-sustainability mindsets and innovation-oriented behaviors, which are particularly critical in resource-constrained and weak-institutional contexts. The study contributes to sustainability and management literature by explicitly linking Green HRM to triple-bottom-line performance through a capability-building framework and by providing rare firm-level empirical evidence from a low-income emerging economy. Practically, the results provide guidance for managers and policy makers to design, monitor, and evaluate HRM systems that intentionally cultivate human, cultural, and innovative capabilities to support long-term organizational sustainability transitions. Background/Objectives: Digital transformation is increasingly essential for healthcare organizations to improve operational efficiency and service quality. However, in developing countries such as Indonesia, many lower-middle-class hospitals lag due to limited financial, human, and infrastructural resources. This study examines how environmental dynamism—comprising regulatory changes, market pressures, and technological shifts—affects the digital capabilities of these hospitals. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted in Class C and D hospitals across Indonesia. Respondents included hospital directors, deputy directors, and IT heads. Data were collected through structured questionnaires measuring environmental dynamism and digital capability using a six-point Likert scale. Reliability testing yielded Cronbach’s alpha values above 0.96 for both constructs. Correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between environmental dynamism and digital capability. Results: Findings reveal a weak positive correlation (r = 0.1816) between environmental dynamism and digital capability. Although external factors such as policy regulations and technological competition encourage digital adoption, hospitals with limited internal resources struggle to translate these pressures into sustainable transformation. Key challenges include low ICT budgets, inconsistent staff training, and insufficient infrastructure. Conclusions: The results suggest that environmental change alone cannot drive digital readiness without internal capacity development. To foster resilient digital healthcare ecosystems, policy interventions should integrate regulatory frameworks with practical support programs that strengthen resources, leadership, and human capital in lower-middle-class hospitals. Background: Integrating palliative care (PC) into primary health care (PHC) is essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage and reducing avoidable suffering. Despite global progress in PC development, the extent to which PC is effectively embedded within PHC systems remains unclear, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Colombia illustrates this gap, with an advanced legal framework but persistent territorial inequities. This study explored how national experts conceptualize PC integration into PHC to inform the development of context-sensitive indicators. Methods: A directed thematic analysis was conducted using qualitative comments from a modified Delphi process (pre-Delphi, Round 1, Round 2). Coding was guided by the WHO model for PC development and the WHO–UNICEF Operational Framework for PHC, combining deductive and inductive approaches to identify recurrent themes. Results: A total of 230 qualitative comments from experts in PC, PHC, and public health were analyzed. Experts described integration as the alignment of policy, education, service delivery, and community participation within PHC structures. They emphasized that laws and training programs alone are insufficient; integration depends on implementation capacity, equitable access, and locally responsive systems. Rural areas were identified as facing the greatest barriers, including limited trained staff, restricted medicine availability, and weak referral pathways. Conclusions: Experts understood PC integration into PHC as a dynamic and ethical process linking system design with human experience. Strengthening equity, workforce preparation, and community engagement is essential to translate policy into practice and to develop meaningful indicators for health system improvement. Full article

Problem: Entrepreneurship education continues to expand, yet it remains fragmented across disciplines and loosely connected to the knowledge, innovation, and venture ecosystems that shape entrepreneurial success. At the same time, AI is transforming research, collaboration, and venture development, but its use in education is typically limited to narrow, task-specific applications rather than ecosystem-level integration. Objective: This paper seeks to develop a comprehensive conceptual model for integrating AI into entrepreneurship education by positioning AI as a connective infrastructure that links and activates the knowledge, innovation, and venture ecosystems. Methods: The model is derived through an integrative synthesis of literature, programs, and activities on entrepreneurship education, ecosystem-based learning, and AI-enabled research and innovation practices, combined with an analysis of gaps in current educational approaches. Key Findings: The proposed model defines a progressive learning pathway consisting of (1) AI competency training that builds foundational capacities in critical judgment, responsible application, and creative adaptation; (2) AI praxis labs that use AI-curated ecosystem data to support iterative, project-based learning; and (3) venture studios where students scale outputs into innovations and ventures through structured ecosystem engagement. This pathway demonstrates how AI can function as a structural mediator of problem definition, research design, experimentation, analysis, and narrative translation. Contributions: This paper reframes entrepreneurship education as an iterative, inclusive, and ecosystem-connected process enabled by AI infrastructure. It offers a new theoretical lens for understanding AI’s educational role and provides actionable implications for curriculum design, institutional readiness, and policy development while identifying avenues for future research on competency development and ecosystem impacts. Street livability is widely recognized as a fundamental indicator of urban livability. Despite growing global agendas advocating human-centered, sustainable, and smart cities, the microscale implementation of streetscape interventions remains limited and non-integrated. This gap is particularly evident in developing cities’ contexts where policy-level frameworks fail to translate into tangible street-level transformations. Responding to this challenge, this paper investigates how streetscape components can enhance everyday street livability. The study aims to explore opportunities for improving street livability through the utilization of three core streetscape components: vegetation, street furniture, and lighting. The discourse on street livability identifies vegetation, street furniture, and lighting as the primary drivers of high-quality urban spaces. Scholarly research suggests that these micro-interventions are most effective when viewed through the combined lenses of human-centered design, environmental sustainability, and smart city technology. While the literature indicates that integrating climate-responsive greenery and renewable energy systems can enhance social interaction and safety, it also highlights significant implementation hurdles. Specifically, researchers point to policy limitations, technical feasibility in developing nations, and the socio-economic threat of green gentrification. Despite these complexities, microscale streetscape improvements remain a vital strategy for fostering inclusive and resilient cities. Full article
