The stability of shield tunnel segmental linings is highly sensitive to the lateral pressure coefficient, especially under weak, heterogeneous, and variable geological conditions. However, the mechanical behavior of steel plate-reinforced linings under such conditions remains insufficiently characterized. This study aims to investigate the effects of varying lateral pressures on the structural performance of reinforced tunnel linings. To achieve this, a custom-designed full-circumference loading and unloading self-balancing apparatus was developed for scaled-model testing of shield tunnels. The experimental methodology allowed for precise control of loading paths, enabling the simulation of realistic ground stress states and the assessment of internal force distribution, joint response, and load transfer mechanisms during the elastic stage of the structure. Results reveal that increased lateral pressure enhances the stiffness and bearing capacity of the reinforced lining. The presence and orientation of segment joints, as well as the bonding performance between epoxy resin and expansion bolts at the reinforcement interface, significantly influence stress redistribution in steel plate-reinforced zones. These findings not only deepen the understanding of tunnel behavior in complex geological environments but also offer practical guidance for optimizing reinforcement design and improving the durability and safety of shield tunnels. To enhance the anti-overturning performance of poles and prevent tilting or collapse, a prefabricated foundation for distribution lines is developed. Field tests are conducted on five groups of foundations. Based on the test results, finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to investigate the influence of different factors—such as pole embedment depth, foundation locations, soil type, and soil parameters—on the anti-overturning performance of pole prefabricated foundations. The results indicate that under ultimate load conditions, the reaction force distribution at the base of the foundation approximates a triangular pattern, and the lateral earth pressure on the pole follows an approximately quadratic parabolic distribution along the depth. When the foundation size increases from 0.8 m to 0.9 m, the bearing capacity of the prefabricated foundation improves by 8%. Furthermore, when the load direction changes from 0° to 45°, the foundation’s bearing capacity increases by 14%. When the foundation is buried at a depth of 1.0 m, compared with the ground position, the ultimate overturning moment of the prefabricated foundation increases by 10%. Based on field test results, finite element simulation results, and limit equilibrium theory, a calculation method for the anti-overturning bearing capacity of prefabricated pole foundations is developed, which can provide a practical reference for the engineering design of distribution line poles and their prefabricated foundations. Microfluidic platforms offer a powerful approach for ultimately replicating vascularization in vitro, enabling precise microscale control and manipulation of physical parameters. Despite these advances, the real-time ability to monitor and quantify mechanical forces—particularly pressure—within microfluidic environments remains constrained by limitations in cost and compatibility across diverse device architectures. Our work presents an advanced experimental module for quantifying pressure within a vascularizing microfluidic platform. Equipped with an integrated Arduino microcontroller and image monitoring, the system facilitates real-time remote monitoring to access temporal pressure and flow dynamics within the device. This setup provides actionable insights into the hemodynamic parameters driving vascularization in vitro. In-line pressure sensors, interfaced through I2C communication, are employed to precisely record inlet and outlet pressures during critical stages of microvasculature tubulogenesis. Flow measurements are obtained by analyzing changes in reservoir volume over time (dV/dt), correlated with the change in pressure over time (dP/dt). This quantitative assessment of various pressure conditions in a microfluidic platform offers insights into their impact on microvasculature perfusion kinetics. Data acquisition can help inform and finetune functional vessel network formation and potentially enhance the durability, stability, and reproducibility of engineered in vitro platforms for organoid vascularization in regenerative medicine. To address the freezing damage to tunnel lining caused by frost heaving of the surrounding rock in water-rich tunnels in cold regions, a numerical thermo-mechanical coupling model for tunnel-surrounding rock that considers the anisotropy of frost heave deformation was established by examining overall frost heaves in a freeze–thaw cycle. Using a COMSOL Multiphysics 6.0 platform and the sequential coupling method, the temperature field evolution of tunnel-surrounding rock, freezing cycle development, and distribution characteristics of the frost heaving force of a tunnel lining under different minimum temperatures, numbers of negative temperature days, frost heave ratios, and anisotropy coefficients of frost heave deformation were systematically simulated. The results revealed that the response of the temperature field of tunnel-surrounding rock to the external temperature varies spatially with time lags, the shallow surface temperatures and the area around the lining fluctuate with the climate, and the temperature of the deep surrounding rock is dominated by the geothermal gradient. The extent of the freezing cycle and the frost heaving force increase significantly when lowering the minimum temperature. The maximum frost heaving force usually occurs in the region of the side wall and the spring line, and tensile stress is prone to be generated at the spring line; the influence of slight fluctuations in the minimum temperature or the short shift in the coldest day on the frost heaving force is limited. A substantial increase in frost heaving force is observed with higher frost heave ratios; for example, an increase from 0.25% to 2.0% results in a 116% rise at the sidewall. Although the increase in the anisotropy coefficient of frost heave deformation does not change the overall distribution pattern of frost heaving force, it can exacerbate the directional concentration of frost heave strain, which can increase the frost heaving force at the periphery of the top arch of the lining. This study revealed the distribution pattern and key influencing factors of the freezing cycle and frost heaving force for tunnels, providing a theoretical basis and data reference for the frost resistance design of tunnels in cold regions. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), nanoscale membrane-enclosed particles, are natural carriers of proteins and nucleic acids. Microalgae are widely used as a source of bioactive substances in the food and cosmetic industries and definitely have a potential to be used as the producers of EVs for biomedical applications. In this study, the extracellular vesicles isolated from the culture medium of two unicellular microalgae, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Chlamy-EVs) and Parachlorella kessleri (Chlore-EVs), were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), cryo-electronic microscopy (cryo-EM), and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA). The biocompatibility with human cells in vitro (HEK-293T, DF-2 and A172) and biodistribution in mouse organs and tissues in vivo were tested for both microalgal EVs. An exogenous therapeutic protein, human heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), was successfully loaded to Chlamy- and Chlore-EVs, and its efficient delivery to human glioma and colon carcinoma cell lines has been confirmed. Additionally, in order to search for potential therapeutic biomolecules within the EVs, their proteomes have been characterized. A total of 105 proteins were identified for Chlamy-EVs and 33 for Chlore-EVs. The presence of superoxide dismutase and catalase in the Chlamy-EV constituents allows for considering them as antioxidant agents. The effective delivery of exogenous cargo to human cells and the possibility of the particle yield optimization by varying the microalgae growth conditions make them favorable producers of EVs for biotechnology and biomedical application. As the range of applications for amphibious robots expands, higher demands are being placed on their working time and working range. This paper proposed a power supply system for an amphibious robot based on wave energy generation, which can convert wave energy into electric energy to enhance endurance. First, the no-load induced electromotive force, magnetic line distribution vector diagrams, and magnetic density cloud diagrams of the cylindrical and flat generators were compared by finite element simulation, which determined that the cylindrical structure has better power generation performance. Then, the electromagnetic parameters of the cylindrical generator were analyzed using Ansys Maxwell, and the final dimensions were determined. Finally, the wave motion was simulated using a swing motor, and the effects of different cutting speeds for the actuator before and after rectification, as well as series-parallel capacitance on the power generation performance of the designed generator, were experimentally analyzed. This provides a potential solution to enhance the working time and working range of amphibious robots. Full article

To address the unclear coupling mechanism between thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) and dynamic behaviors in planetary gear systems, a novel tribo-dynamic model for dual-star planetary gears considering TEHL effects is proposed. In this model, a TEHL surrogate model is first established to determine the oil film thickness and sliding friction force along the tooth meshing line. Subsequently, the dynamic model of the dual-star planetary gear transmission system is developed through coordinate transformations of the dual-star gear train. Finally, by integrating lubrication effects into both time-varying mesh stiffness and time-varying backlash, a tribo-dynamic model for the dual-star planetary gear transmission system is established. The study reveals that the lubricant film thickness is positively correlated with relative sliding velocity but negatively correlated with unit line load. Under high-speed conditions, a thickened oil film induces premature meshing contact, leading to meshing impacts. In contrast, under high-torque conditions, tooth deformation dominates meshing force fluctuations while lubrication influence diminishes. By establishing a test bench for the planetary gear transmission system, the obtained simulation conclusions are verified. This research provides theoretical and experimental support for the design of high-reliability planetary gear systems. Full article

Approximately 15% of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients remain dissatisfied after surgery, with joint line obliquity (JLO) potentially affecting patient outcomes. This study investigated whether JLO restoration influenced lower extremity frontal plane joint moments during stair negotiation by TKA patients. Thirty unrestored and twenty-two restored JLO patients participated in this study and were asked to perform five trials on each limb for stair negotiation while three-dimensional kinematics and ground reaction forces were recorded. Frontal plane moments at the ankle, knee and hip were calculated using Visual 3D. The restoration of JLO did not alter frontal plane joint moments during stair negotiation. Both groups showed symmetrical moment profiles, indicating no significant biomechanical differences between the restored and unrestored JLO groups. Restoring JLO did not affect frontal plane joint moments during stair negotiation, suggesting it may not contribute to patient satisfaction disparities post-TKA. Further research should explore other factors, such as surgical technique and implant design, that might influence recovery. Full article

Simulation is an important technical tool in corn threshing operations, and the establishment of the corn kernel model is the core part of the simulation process. The existing modeling method is to treat the whole kernel as a rigid body, which cannot be crushed during the simulation process, and the calculation of the crushing rate needs to be considered through multiple criteria such as the contact force, the number of collisions, and so on. Aiming at the issue that kernel crushing during maize threshing cannot be accurately modeled in discrete element simulations, in this study, a sub-area crushing model was constructed; representative samples with 26%, 30% and 34% moisture content were selected from a double-season maturing region in China; based on the physical dimensions and biological structure of the maize kernel, three stress regions were defined; and mechanical property tests were conducted on each of the three stress regions using a texturometer as a way to determine the different crushing forces due to the heterogeneity of the maize structure. The correctness of the model was verified by stacking angle and mechanical property experiments. A discrete element model of corn kernels was established using the Bonding V2 method and sub-area modeling. Bonding parameters were calculated by combining stacking angle tests and mechanical property tests. The flattened corn kernel was used as a prototype, and the bonding parameters were determined through size and mechanical property tests. A 22-ball bonding model was developed using dimensional parameters, and the kernel density was recalculated. Results showed that the relative error between the stacking angle test and the measured mean value was 0.31%. The maximum deviation of axial compression simulation results from the measured mean value was 22.8 N, and the minimum deviation was 3.67 N. The errors between simulated and actual rupture forces at the three force areas were 5%, 10%, and 0.6%, respectively. The decreasing trend of the maximum rupture force for the three moisture levels in the simulation matched that of the actual rupture force. The discrete element model can accurately reflect the rupture force, energy relationship, and rupture process on both sides, top, and bottom of the grain, and it can solve the error problem caused by the contact between the threshing element and the grain line in the actual threshing process to achieve the design optimization of the threshing drum. The modeling method provided in this study can also be applied to breakable discrete element models for wheat and soybean, and it provides a reference for optimizing the design of subsequent threshing devices. Unbalanced accelerations occurring during tram travel have a significant impact on passenger comfort and safety, as well as on the rate of wear and tear on infrastructure and rolling stock. Ideally, these dynamic forces should be monitored continuously in real-time; however, traditional systems require high-precision accelerometers and proprietary software—investments often beyond the reach of municipally funded tram operators. To this end, as part of the research project “Accelerometer Measurements in Rail Passenger Transport Vehicles”, pilot measurement campaigns were conducted in Poland on tram lines in Gdańsk, Toruń, Bydgoszcz, and Olsztyn. Off-the-shelf smartphones equipped with MEMS accelerometers and GPS modules, running the Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite Pro app, were used. Although the research employs widely known methods, this paper addresses part of the gap in affordable real-time monitoring by demonstrating that, in the future, equipment equipped solely with consumer-grade MEMS accelerometers can deliver sufficiently accurate data in applications where high precision is not critical. This paper presents an analysis of a subset of results from the Gdańsk tram network. Lateral (x) and vertical (z) accelerations were recorded at three fixed points inside two tram models (Pesa 128NG Jazz Duo and Düwag N8C), while longitudinal accelerations were deliberately omitted at this stage due to their strong dependence on driver behavior. Raw data were exported as CSV files, processed and analyzed in R version 4.2.2, and then mapped spatially using ArcGIS cartograms. Vehicle speed was calculated both via the haversine formula—accounting for Earth’s curvature—and via a Cartesian approximation. Over the ~7 km route, both methods yielded virtually identical results, validating the simpler approach for short distances. Acceleration histograms approximated Gaussian distributions, with most values between 0.05 and 0.15 m/s2, and extreme values approaching 1 m/s2. The results demonstrate that low-cost mobile devices, after future calibration against certified accelerometers, can provide sufficiently rich data for ride-comfort assessment and show promise for cost-effective condition monitoring of both track and rolling stock. Future work will focus on optimizing the app’s data collection pipeline, refining standard-based analysis algorithms, and validating smartphone measurements against benchmark sensors. Full article

The electromechanical braking (EMB) system is an important component of intelligent vehicles and is also the core actuator for longitudinal dynamic control in autonomous driving motion control. Therefore, we propose a new mechanism layout form for EMB and a feedforward second-order linear active disturbance rejection controller based on clamping force. This solves the problem of excessive axial distance in traditional EMB and reduces the axial distance by 30%, while concentrating the PCB control board for the wheels on the EMB housing. This enables the ABS and ESP functions to be integrated into the EMB system, further enhancing the integration of line control and active safety functions. A feedforward second-order linear active disturbance rejection controller (LADRC) based on the clamping force of the brake caliper is proposed. Compared with the traditional clamping force control methods three-loop PID and adaptive fuzzy PID, it improves the response speed, steady-state error, and anti-interference ability. Moreover, the LADRC has more advantages in parameter adjustment. Simulation results show that the response speed is increased by 130 ms, the overshoot is reduced by 9.85%, and the anti-interference ability is increased by 41.2%. Finally, the feasibility of this control algorithm was verified through the EMB hardware-in-the-loop test bench. Full article

The deformation characteristics of the surrounding rock in tunnel groups are considered critical for the design of support structures and the assurance of the long-term safety of deep-buried diversion tunnels. The deformation behavior of surrounding rock in tunnel groups was investigated to guide structural support design. Field tests and numerical simulations were performed to analyze the distribution of ground stress and the ground reaction curve under varying conditions, including rock type, tunnel spacing, and burial depth. A solid unit–structural unit coupled simulation approach was adopted to derive the two-liner support characteristic curve and to examine the propagation behavior of concrete cracks. The influences of surrounding rock strength, reinforcement ratio, and secondary lining thickness on the bearing capacity of the secondary lining were systematically evaluated. The following findings were obtained: (1) The tunnel group effect was found to be negligible when the spacing (D) was ≥65 m and the burial depth was 1600 m. (2) Both P0.3 and Pmax of the secondary lining increased linearly with reinforcement ratio and thickness. (3) For surrounding rock of grade III (IV), 95% ulim and 90% ulim were found to be optimal support timings, with secondary lining forces remaining well below the cracking stress during construction. (4) For surrounding rock of grade V in tunnels with a burial depth of 200 m, 90% ulim is recommended as the initial support timing. Support timings for tunnels with burial depths between 400 m and 800 m are 40 cm, 50 cm, and 60 cm, respectively. Design parameters should be adjusted based on grouting effects and monitoring data. Additional reinforcement is recommended for tunnels with burial depths between 1000 m and 2000 m to improve bearing capacity, with measures to enhance impermeability and reduce external water pressure. These findings contribute to the safe and reliable design of support structures for deep-buried diversion tunnels, providing technical support for design optimization and long-term operation. To investigate the oscillation modes of iced transmission lines, this study introduces a forcing term into the galloping equation and applies two discretization approaches: Discrete Method I (DMI), which directly transforms the partial differential equation into an ordinary differential form, and Discrete Method II (DMII), which first averages dynamic tension along the span. The finite element method is employed to validate the analytical solutions. Using a multiscale approach, amplitude-frequency responses under primary, harmonic, and internal resonance are derived. Results show that DMII yields larger galloping amplitudes and trajectories than DMI, with lower resonant frequencies and weaker geometric nonlinearities. In harmonic resonance, superharmonic and subharmonic modes (notably 1/2) are more easily excited. Under 2:1:2 internal resonance, amplitude differences in the vertical (z) direction are more sensitive to the discretization method, whereas the 1:1:1 case shows minimal variation across directions. These findings suggest that the choice of discretization significantly influences galloping behavior, with DMII offering a more conservative prediction. Full article

Exercise-Specific YANG Profile for AI-Assisted Network Security Labs: Bidirectional Configuration Exchange with Large Language Models

Network security courses rely on hands-on labs where students configure virtual Linux networks to practice attack and defense. Automated feedback is scarce because no standard exists for exchanging detailed configurations—interfaces, bridging, routing tables, iptables policies—between exercise software and large language models (LLMs) that could serve as tutors. We address this interoperability gap with an exercise-oriented YANG profile that augments the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) ietf-network module with a new network-devices module. The profile expresses Linux interface settings, routing, and firewall rules, and tags each node with roles such as linux-server or linux-firewall. Integrated into our LiNeS Cloud platform, it enables LLMs to both parse and generate machine-readable network states. We evaluated the profile on four topologies—from a simple client–server pair to multi-subnet scenarios with dedicated security devices—using ChatGPT-4o, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Gemini 2.0 Flash. Across 1050 evaluation tasks covering profile understanding (n = 180), instance analysis (n = 750), and instance generation (n = 120), the three LLMs answered correctly in 1028 cases, yielding an overall accuracy of 97.9%. Even with only minimal follow-up cues (≦3 turns) —rather than handcrafted prompt chains— analysis tasks reached 98.1% accuracy and generation tasks 93.3%. To our knowledge, this is the first exercise-focused YANG profile that simultaneously captures Linux/iptables semantics and is empirically validated across three proprietary LLMs, attaining 97.9% overall task accuracy. These results lay a practical foundation for artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted security labs where real-time feedback and scenario generation must scale beyond human instructor capacity.
