Quantum state discrimination (QSD) is a fundamental task in quantum information processing, improving the computation efficiency and communication security. Non-Hermitian (NH) PT-symmetric systems were found to be able to discriminate two quantum states better than the Hermitian strategy. In this work, we propose a QSD approach based on P-pseudo-Hermitian systems with real spectra. We theoretically prove the feasibility of realizing QSD in the real-spectrum phase of a P-pseudo-Hermitian system, i.e., two arbitrary non-orthogonal quantum states can be discriminated by a suitable P-pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian. In detail, we decide the minimal angular separation between two non-orthogonal quantum states for a fixed P-pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian, and we find the orthogonal evolution time is able to approach zero under suitable conditions, while both the trace distance and the quantum relative entropy are employed to judge their orthogonality. We give a criterion to choose the parameters of a P-pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian that evolves the two initial orthogonal states faster than a fixed arbitrary PT-symmetric one with an identical energy difference. Our work expands the NH family for QSD, and can be used to explore real quantum systems in the future. Full article

At present, faced with intense competitive stress, some young people have adopted a lifestyle of “lying flat”—a passive attitude characterized by giving up efforts and goals—in order to relieve pressure and increase life satisfaction. However, the question of whether “lying flat” can really increase life satisfaction is still unclear. Our study attempted to investigate the relation between “lying flat” and life satisfaction. We combined cross-sectional (Study 1) and longitudinal research (Study 2) to investigate the relation between “lying flat” and life satisfaction. Study 1 showed that “lying flat” was significantly negatively associated with life satisfaction, and the cross-lagged analyses in Study 2 found that “lying flat” significantly negatively predicted life satisfaction one month later, but life satisfaction did not significantly predict “lying flat” one month later. The present study first revealed a temporal directionality between the “lying flat” and life satisfaction. This suggests that “lying flat”, which serves as a temporary relief mechanism in the face of overwhelming pressure, may come at the cost of long-term psychological functioning. Full article

In the era of Industry 5.0, future wireless networks are increasingly shifting from traditional symmetric architectures toward heterogeneous and asymmetric paradigms, driven by the demand for diversified and dynamic services. This architectural evolution gives rise to complex and asymmetric flows, such as the coexistence of periodic and burst flows with varying latency, jitter, and deadline constraints, posing new challenges for deterministic transmission. Traditional time-sensitive networking (TSN) is well-suited for periodic flows but lacks the flexibility to effectively handle dynamic, asymmetric traffi. To address this limitation, we propose a two-stage asymmetric flow scheduling framework with dynamic deadline control, termed A-TSN. In the first stage, we design a Deep Q-Network-based Dynamic Injection Time Slot algorithm (DQN-DITS) to optimize slot allocation for periodic flows under varying network loads. In the second stage, we introduce the Dynamic Deadline Online (DDO) scheduling algorithm, which enables real-time scheduling for asymmetric flows while satisfying flow deadlines and capacity constraints. Simulation results demonstrate that our approach significantly reduces end-to-end latency, improves scheduling efficiency, and enhances adaptability to high-volume asymmetric traffic, offering a scalable solution for future deterministic wireless networks. In this manuscript, we study a class of nabla fractional difference equations with summation boundary conditions that depend on a parameter. We construct the Green’s function related to the linear problem and we deduce some of its properties. First, we obtain an upper bound of the sum of it, and use this property to give an existence result for the considered problem based on the Leray–Shauder nonlinear alternative. Then, we establish some bounds on the parameter in which the Green’s function is positive, and by using Krasnoselski–Zabreiko fixed-point theorem, we deduce another existence result. Finally, we give some particular examples in order to demonstrate our primary findings. Full article

Reactions of the angular 4,4′-oxybis[N-(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)benzamide] (L) with dicarboxylic acids and transition metal salts afforded non-entangled {[Cd(L)(1,3-BDC)(H2O)]∙2H2O}n (1,3-BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid), 1; {[Cd(L)(1,4-HBDC)(1,4-BDC)0.5]∙2H2O}n (1,4-BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid), 2; {[Cu2(L)2(1,3-BDC)2]∙1.5H2O}n, 3; {[Ni(L)(1,3-BDC)(H2O)]∙2H2O}n, 4; {[Zn(L)(1,3-BDC)]∙4H2O}n, 5; {[Zn(L)(1,4-BDC)]∙2H2O}n, 6; and [Cd3(L)2(1,4-BDC)3]n, 7, which have been structurally characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This paper presents the expected and unexpected, but typically substituent-dependent, ferrocene-catalyzed DDQ-mediated oxidative transformations of a series of 5,8-bis(methylthio)-1-aryl-1,2-dihydropyridazino[4,5-d]pyridazines and 8-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-5-(methylthio)-1-aryl-1,2-dihydropyridazino[4,5-d]pyridazines. Under noncatalytic conditions the reactions were sluggish, mainly producing a substantial amount of undefined tarry materials; nevertheless, the ferrocene-catalyzed reactions of the 5,8-bis(methylthio)-substituted precursors gave the aromatic products the expected aromatic products in low yields. Their formation was accompanied by ring transformations proceeding via aryne-generating fragmentation/Diels–Alder (DA)/N2-releasing retro Diels–Alder (rDA) sequence to construct arene-fused phthalazines. On the other hand, neither the noncatalytic nor the catalytic reactions of the 8-pyrazolyl-5-methylthio-substituted dihydroaromatics yielded the expected aromatic products. Instead, depending on their substitution pattern, the catalytic reactions of these pyrazolyl-substituted precursors also led to the formation of dearylated arene-fused phthalazines competing with an unprecedented multistep fragmentation sequence terminated by the hydrolysis of cationic intermediates to give 4-(methylthio)pyridazino[4,5-d]pyridazin-1(2H)-one and the corresponding 3,5-dimethyl-1-aryl-1H-pyrazole. When 0.6 equivalents of DDQ were applied in freshly absolutized THF, a representative pyrazolyl-substituted model underwent an oxidative coupling to give a dimer formed by the interaction of the cationic intermediate, and a part of the N-nucleophilic precursor remained intact. A systematic computational study was conducted on these intriguing reactions to support their complex mechanisms proposed on the basis of the structures of the isolated products. Full article

Residential areas are characterized by closely packed buildings which disturb wind flow resulting in low wind speeds (below 2 m/s) with a high turbulence intensity (above 20%). In order to interface between off-the-shelf wind turbines and low-quality wind, the Increased velocity (INVELOX) wind delivery system is an attractive wind augmentation option for such regions. The INVELOX setup can harness more energy than conventional bare wind turbines under the same incident wind conditions. However, these systems also have drawbacks and challenges that they face in their operation, which amplify the need to review, understand, and expose gaps and flaws in pursuit of increased power production in low wind quality environments. This paper seeks to review and simplify the advances done by various scholars towards improving the INVELOX delivery system. It provides the mathematical foundation on which these advances are rooted and gives an understanding of how the improvements better the geometric properties of INVELOX. The article concludes by proposing future research directions. Full article

Introduction: Ocular complications associated with dental procedures are diverse but have been primarily reported through case reports and series, with no comprehensive reviews to date. The underlying mechanisms of these complications are often poorly understood by medical professionals, partly due to limited interdisciplinary education. This review aims to bridge this gap by summarizing the relevant anatomical connections between the oral and ocular regions, exploring the mechanisms through which dental procedures may lead to ophthalmic complications, and detailing their clinical presentations, progression, and potential management and preventive strategies. Methods: Published case reports and case series from 1950 to October 2024 that described ophthalmic complications in human patients following dental procedures were included in this scoping review. Results: Dental procedures can give rise to a variety of ophthalmological complications, whether neuro–ophthalmic (e.g., diplopia, ptosis, or vision loss), vascular (e.g., retrobulbar hemorrhage or cervical artery dissection), infectious (e.g., orbital cellulitis or abscess), mechanical (e.g., orbital trauma or fractures), or air-related (e.g., orbital and subcutaneous emphysema). Conclusions: Most of the ophthalmological complications following dental procedures are often reversible, but some can be vision-threatening or lead to permanent sequelae if not promptly recognized and managed. Prevention through precise technique and anatomical awareness, early identification of symptoms, and timely multidisciplinary collaboration are crucial to minimizing risks and ensuring better patient outcomes. This article investigates the paradox of disappearance as both an aesthetic and a political phenomenon. Taking inspiration from Radiohead’s song “How to Disappear Completely,” it argues that aesthetic representations of disappearance never achieve total erasure; instead, they give rise to new forms of visibility. A true aesthetics of disappearance does not exist. Through case studies such as H.G. Wells’s The Invisible Man and Guy Debord’s Society of the Spectacle, the article demonstrates that disappearance is always mediated: the invisible man becomes hyper-visible through his clothing, bandages, and mask, while the spectacle conceals marginalized lives only to expose them through mechanisms of institutional control (e.g., prisons, medical facilities, schools—as analyzed in Michel Foucault’s work). An investigation of the “novel of the institution” (Campe), especially as it appears in the works of Franz Kafka and Robert Walser, eventually explores the nexus between aesthetic representation and institutionalized forms of coerced visibility. Ultimately, the essay argues that disappearance, as an aesthetic and political event, destabilizes regimes of visibility—not by erasure alone, but by exposing the fragility of appearance itself. The tension between opacity and exposure suggests that resistance lies not in pure absence but in subverting the very mechanisms of representation. Full article

Cancer is one of the most lethal diseases of this century. Unfortunately, many anticancer agents have harsh side effects or fail to work against cancer any longer due to tolerance. Dihydropyrimidinones are promising structures containing a pyrimidine ring. Targeting Eg5 is their most well-known activity. Inhibition of this enzyme gives them the privilege of strong cytotoxic activity with less side effects. Phenyl ring is a group that can be found in the majority of organic molecules and possesses preferable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics. This review studies DHPM derivatives that are substituted with a phenyl ring and possess antiproliferative ability by inhibiting Eg5. The compounds are able to inhibit different cancer cell lines, and some are more potent than the standard drug. The biological results are in accordance with the docking studies. Full article

Floating solar technology has gained significant attention as part of the global expansion of renewable energy due to its potential for installation in underutilized water bodies. Several countries, including the Netherlands, have initiated efforts to extend this technology from inland freshwater applications to open offshore environments, particularly within offshore wind farm areas. This development is motivated by the synergistic benefits of increasing site energy density and leveraging the existing offshore grid infrastructure. The deployment of offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) systems involves assembling multiple modular units in a marine environment, introducing operational risks that may give rise to safety concerns. To mitigate these risks, weather windows must be considered prior to the task execution to ensure continuity between weather-sensitive activities, which can also lead to additional time delays and increased costs. Consequently, optimizing marine logistics becomes crucial to achieving the cost reductions necessary for making OFPV technology economically viable. This study employs a simulation-based approach to estimate the installation duration of a 5 MWp OFPV plant at a Dutch offshore wind farm site, started in different months and under three distinct risk management scenarios. Based on 20 years of hindcast wave data, the results reveal the impacts of campaign start months and risk management policies on installation duration. Across all the scenarios, the installation duration during the autumn and winter period is 160% longer than the one in the spring and summer period. The average installation durations, based on results from 12 campaign start months, are 70, 80, and 130 days for the three risk management policies analyzed. The result variation highlights the additional time required to mitigate operational risks arising from potential discontinuity between highly interdependent tasks (e.g., offshore platform assembly and mooring). Additionally, it is found that the weather-induced delays are mainly associated with the campaigns of pre-laying anchors and platform and mooring line installation compared with the other campaigns. In conclusion, this study presents a logistics modeling methodology for OFPV systems, demonstrated through a representative case study based on a state-of-the-art truss-type design. The primary contribution lies in providing a framework to quantify the performance of OFPV installation strategies at an early design stage. The findings of this case study further highlight that marine installation logistics are highly sensitive to local marine conditions and the chosen installation strategy, and should be integrated early in the OFPV design process to help reduce the levelized cost of electricity. Skeletal muscle regeneration depends on muscle stem cells, which give rise to myoblasts that drive muscle growth, repair, and maintenance. In bats—the only mammals capable of powered flight—these processes must also sustain contractile performance under extreme mechanical and metabolic stress. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying bat muscle physiology remain largely unknown. To enable mechanistic investigation of these traits, we established the first myoblast cell lines from the pectoralis muscle of Pteronotus mesoamericanus, a highly maneuverable aerial insectivore. Using both spontaneous immortalization and exogenous hTERT/CDK4 gene overexpression, we generated two stable cell lines that retain proliferative capacity and differentiate into contractile myotubes. These cells exhibit frequent spontaneous contractions, suggesting robust functional integrity at the neuromuscular junction. In parallel, we performed transcriptomic and metabolic profiling of native pectoralis tissue in the closely related Pteronotus parnellii to define molecular programs supporting muscle specialization. Gene expression analyses revealed enriched pathways for muscle metabolism, development, and regeneration, highlighting supporting roles in tissue maintenance and repair. Consistent with this profile, the flight muscle is triglyceride-rich, which serves as an important fuel source for energetically demanding processes, including muscle contraction and cellular recovery. Integration of transcriptomic and metabolic data identified three key metabolic modules—glucose utilization, lipid handling, and nutrient signaling—that likely coordinate ATP production and support metabolic flexibility. Together, these complementary tools and datasets provide the first in vitro platform for investigating bat muscle research, enabling direct exploration of muscle regeneration, metabolic resilience, and evolutionary physiology. Comparisons of the Effects of Polymer and Alcohol Varnishes on Norway Spruce Wood Surface Modifications

Spruce wood is a natural polymeric material, consisting of cellulose, lignin, hemicelluloses and other secondary components, which gives it a unique chemical footprint and architecture. Varnishes are used in musical instruments to protect the wood against humidity variations, wood being a hygroscopic material, but also to protect the wood from dirt. The varnishes used both to protect the wood from resonance and to ensure a special aesthetic appearance are either polymeric varnishes (nitrocellulose, oil-based) or volatile solvents (spirit). In this study, the color changes, the surface morphology and the chemical spectrum produced by three types of varnishes, applied in 5, 10 and 15 layers, on resonance spruce plates were analyzed. The results revealed significant changes in the color parameters: the lightness decreased by approximately 17% after the first layer, by 50% after 5 layers, by 65% after 10 layers and by 70% after 15 layers. The color parameters are most influenced by the anatomical quality of spruce wood (annual ring width and earlywood/latewood ratio) in the case of oil-based varnishes and least influenced in the case of nitrocellulose varnishes. The chemical fingerprint was determined by FTIR spectrum analysis, which revealed that the most pronounced absorptions were the double band 2926–2858 cm−1, corresponding to aliphatic methylene and methyl groups (asymmetric and symmetrical C-H stretch), and the bands at 1724 cm−1 (oil-based varnish), 1722 cm−1 (nitrocellulose varnish) and 1708 cm−1 (spirit varnish), all assigned to non-conjugated carbonyl groups in either carboxylic acids, esters aldehydes or ketones. The novelty of the study lies in the comparative analysis of three types of varnishes used in the musical instrument industry, applied to samples of spruce resonance wood with different macroscopic characteristics in three different layer thicknesses. An increasing global population, rising energy demands, and the shift toward a circular bioeconomy are driving the need for more resource-efficient waste management. The increase in the world population—now exceeding 8 billion as of 2024—results in an increased need for alternative proteins, both human and feed grade proteins, as well as for biopolymers and bioenergy. As such, agricultural, forest, and marine waste biomass represent a valuable feedstock for production of food and feed ingredients, biopolymers, and bioenergy. However, the lack of integrated and efficient valorization strategies for these diverse biomass sources remains a major challenge. This literature review aims to give a systematic approach on the recent research status of agricultural, forest, and marine waste biomass valorization, focusing on cascade processing (a sequential combination of processes such as pretreatment, extraction, and conversion methods). Potential products will be identified that create the most economic value over multiple lifetimes, to maximize resource efficiency. It highlights the challenges associated with cascade processing of waste biomass and proposes technological synergies for waste biomass valorization. Moreover, this review will provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential of waste biomass valorization in the context of sustainable and circular bioeconomy. Full article

Promoting energy efficiency in the Italian production sector is significantly hampered by the lack of knowledge, the scarcity and the limited distribution of tools for supporting energy audits in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in a wide range of Italian economic sectors (industry, tertiary sector, transport). The Advanced Tool for ENErgy Audit for SMEs, ATENEA4SME, is intended to help SMEs promote energy-efficiency projects, supports energy audits and self-evaluation of energy consumption. The tool uses an original mathematical model that takes into account the results of questionnaires and a multi-criteria analysis to generate recommendations for energy efficiency investments. This article will give a thorough explanation of the tool, emphasizing and outlining the sections as well as the procedures to get the ultimate summary of the energy usage of the enterprises under investigation and the potential for energy saving. From a technological and financial perspective, the tool helps to remove obstacles to the development of energy-efficiency measures. In this article, the IT and methodological structure of the tool will therefore be extensively described, and its operation for the context of SMEs will be illustrated, with application cases. Ample space will be allocated to the dissemination campaign and the replicability of the tool for all economic sectors of the industrial and tertiary sectors. Full article
