This study highlights the spatial, seasonal, and climatic variations in bird species richness across Türkiye, a country with rich avian richness situated at the intersection of major migratory routes. Bird species richness was calculated for each province. Differences between regions, Köppen–Geiger climate classes, and seasons were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis method. Non-parametric analysis of longitudinal data in factorial experiments was also employed to determine seasonal differences within regions and climate classes. The results revealed significant spatial variations in species richness, particularly between temperate and cold climate regions. While seasonal differences were generally less pronounced, they were critical for both migratory and resident bird species. Wetlands, coastal areas, and transitional habitats were identified as biodiversity hotspots for both resident and migratory birds. This study underscores the need to integrate regional, climatic, and seasonal variations into ecosystem-based management plans. Protecting critical habitats, enhancing connectivity through ecological corridors, and adopting adaptive conservation strategies are essential for sustaining Türkiye’s rich avian diversity. These results provide valuable insights for conservation planning and emphasize the importance of addressing spatial and seasonal dynamics to ensure long-term biodiversity preservation. Full article

This study focuses on cultural and urban development policies under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, exploring the content and semantic structure of discussions on the “East Asian Cultural Capital” project on the Weibo platform. It analyzes how national cultural development policies are reflected in the discourse system related to the “East Asian Cultural Capital” on social media and emphasizes the guiding role of policies in the dissemination of online culture. When China announced the 14th Five-Year Plan in 2021, the strategic direction and policy framework for cultural development over the five-year period from 2021 to 2025 were clearly outlined. This study employs text mining and semantic network analysis methods to analyze user-generated content on Weibo from 2023 to 2024, aiming to understand public perception and discourse trends. Word frequency and TF-IDF analyses identify key terms and issues, while centrality and CONCOR clustering analyses reveal the semantic structure and discourse communities. MR-QAP regression is employed to compare network changes across the two years. Findings highlight that urban cultural development, heritage preservation, and regional exchange are central themes, with digital media, cultural branding, trilateral cooperation, and cultural–economic integration emerging as key factors in regional collaboration. A Hybrid Path Planning Algorithm for Orchard Robots Based on an Improved D* Lite Algorithm

Due to the complex spatial structure, dense tree distribution, and narrow passages in orchard environments, traditional path planning algorithms often struggle with large path deviations, frequent turning, and reduced navigational safety. In order to overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a hybrid path planning algorithm based on improved D* Lite for narrow forest orchard environments. The proposed approach enhances path feasibility and improves the robustness of the navigation system. The algorithm begins by constructing a 2D grid map reflecting the orchard layout and inflates the tree regions to create safety buffers for reliable path planning. For global path planning, an enhanced D* Lite algorithm is used with a cost function that jointly considers centerline proximity, turning angle smoothness, and directional consistency. This guides the path to remain close to the orchard row centerline, improving structural adaptability and path rationality. Narrow passages along the initial path are detected, and local replanning is performed using a Hybrid A* algorithm that accounts for the kinematic constraints of a differential tracked robot. This generates curvature-continuous and directionally stable segments that replace the original narrow-path portions. Finally, a gradient descent method is applied to smooth the overall path, improving trajectory continuity and execution stability. Field experiments in representative orchard environments demonstrate that the proposed hybrid algorithm significantly outperforms traditional D* Lite and KD* Lite-B methods in terms of path accuracy and navigational safety. The average deviation from the centerline is only 0.06 m, representing reductions of 75.55% and 38.27% compared to traditional D* Lite and KD* Lite-B, respectively, thereby enabling high-precision centerline tracking. Moreover, the number of hazardous nodes, defined as path points near obstacles, was reduced to five, marking decreases of 92.86% and 68.75%, respectively, and substantially enhancing navigation safety. These results confirm the method’s strong applicability in complex, constrained orchard environments and its potential as a foundation for efficient, safe, and fully autonomous agricultural robot operation. Automated cherry harvesting presents a significant opportunity to overcome the high costs and inefficiencies of manual labor in modern agriculture. However, robotic harvesting in dense canopies requires sophisticated path planning to navigate cluttered branches and selectively pick target fruits. This paper introduces a complete robotic harvesting solution centered on a novel path-planning algorithm: the Multi-Strategy Integrated RRT for Continuous Harvesting Path (MSI-RRTCHP) algorithm. Our system first employs a machine vision system to identify and locate mature cherries, distinguishing them from unripe fruits, leaves, and branches, which are treated as obstacles. Based on this visual data, the MSI-RRTCHP algorithm generates an optimal picking trajectory. Its core innovation is a synergistic strategy that enables intelligent navigation by combining probability-guided exploration, goal-oriented sampling, and adaptive step size adjustments based on the obstacle’s density. To optimize the picking sequence for multiple targets, we introduce an enhanced traversal algorithm (σ-TSP) that accounts for obstacle interference. Field experiments demonstrate that our integrated system achieved a 90% picking success rate. Compared with established algorithms, the MSI-RRTCHP algorithm reduced the path length by up to 25.47% and the planning time by up to 39.06%. This work provides a practical and efficient framework for robotic cherry harvesting, showcasing a significant step toward intelligent agricultural automation. Full article

Understanding the environmental drivers of radial growth in the Pinus massoniana (lamb.) is essential for improving forest productivity and carbon sequestration in subtropical ecosystems. This study used the basal area increment (BAI) as an indicator of radial growth to investigate the main factors affecting the radial growth rate of P. massoniana and the changes in BAI with these factors. A total of 58 high quality tree ring series were analyzed. Six common methods were used to comprehensively analyze the importance of nine factor variables on the BAI, including tree age, competition index, average temperature, and so on. Generalized additive models (GAMs) were developed to explore the nonlinear relationships between each selected variable and the BAI. The results revealed the following: (1) Age and Competition Index was identified as the primary driving force; (2) BAI increased with Age when tree age was below 69 years; (3) from the overall trend, the BAI of P. massoniana decreased with the increase in the Competition Index. These findings provide a scientific basis for developing management plans for P. massoniana forests. Full article

Background/Objectives: Orbital reconstruction remains one of the most demanding procedures in maxillofacial surgery. It requires not only precise anatomical knowledge but also poses multiple intraoperative challenges. Limited surgical visibility—especially in transconjunctival or transcaruncular approaches—demands exceptional precision from the surgeon. At the same time, the complex anatomical structure of the orbit, its rich vascularization and innervation, and the risk of severe postoperative complications—such as diplopia, sensory deficits, impaired ocular mobility, or in the most serious cases, post-traumatic blindness due to nerve injury or orbital compartment syndrome—necessitate the highest level of surgical accuracy. In this context, patient-specific implants (PSIs), commonly fabricated from zirconium oxide or ultra-high-density polyethylene, have become invaluable. Within CAD-based reconstructive planning, especially for orbital implants, critical factors include the implant’s anatomical fit, passive stabilization on intact bony structures, and non-interference with orbital soft tissues. Above all, precise replication of the orbital dimensions is essential for optimal clinical outcomes. This study compares the morphological accuracy of orbital structures based on anthropometric measurements from 3D models generated from fan-beam computed tomography (FBCT) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: A cohort group of 500 Caucasian patients aged 8 to 88 years was analyzed. 3D models of the orbits were generated from FBCT and CBCT scans. Anthropometric measurements were taken to evaluate the morphological accuracy of the orbital structures. The assessed parameters included orbital depth, orbital width, the distance from the infraorbital rim to the infraorbital foramen, the distance between the piriform aperture and the infraorbital foramen, and the distance from the zygomatico-orbital foramen to the infraorbital rim. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between virtual models derived from FBCT and those based on CBCT in several key parameters. Discrepancies were particularly evident in measurements of orbital depth, orbital width, the distance from the infraorbital rim to the infraorbital foramen, the distance between the piriform aperture and the infraorbital foramen, and the distance from the zygomatico-orbital foramen to the infraorbital rim. Conclusions: The statistically significant discrepancies in selected orbital dimensions—particularly in regions of so-called thin bone—demonstrate that FBCT remains the gold standard in the planning and design of CAD/CAM patient-specific orbital implants. Despite its advantages, including greater accessibility and lower radiation dose, CBCT shows limited reliability in the context of orbital and infraorbital reconstruction planning. Full article

Integrating GIS, Remote Sensing, and Machine Learning to Optimize Sustainable Groundwater Recharge in Arid Mediterranean Landscapes: A Case Study from the Middle Draa Valley, Morocco

Groundwater plays a crucial role in sustaining agriculture and livelihoods in the arid Middle Draa Valley (MDV) of southeastern Morocco. However, increasing groundwater extraction, declining rainfall, and the absence of effective floodwater harvesting systems have led to severe aquifer depletion. This study applies and compares six machine learning (ML) algorithms—decision trees (CART), ensemble methods (random forest, LightGBM, XGBoost), distance-based learning (k-nearest neighbors), and support vector machines—integrating GIS, satellite data, and field observations to delineate zones suitable for groundwater recharge. The results indicate that ensemble tree-based methods yielded the highest predictive accuracy, with LightGBM outperforming the others by achieving an overall accuracy of 0.90. Random forest and XGBoost also demonstrated strong performance, effectively identifying priority areas for artificial recharge, particularly near ephemeral streams. A feature importance analysis revealed that soil permeability, elevation, and stream proximity were the most influential variables in recharge zone delineation. The generated maps provide valuable support for irrigation planning, aquifer conservation, and floodwater management. Overall, the proposed machine learning–geospatial framework offers a robust and transferable approach for mapping groundwater recharge zones (GWRZ) in arid and semi-arid regions, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs))—notably SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), by enhancing water-use efficiency and groundwater recharge (Target 6.4), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), by supporting climate-resilient aquifer management. Ecosystem restoration represents a promising solution for enhancing ecosystem services and environmental sustainability. However, border regions—characterized by ecological fragility and geopolitical complexity—remain underrepresented in ecosystem service and restoration research. To fill this gap, we coupled spatially explicit models (e.g., InVEST and RUSLE) with scenario analysis to quantify the ecosystem service potential that could be achieved in China’s Tibetan borderlands under two interacting agendas: ecological restoration and border-strengthening policies. Restoration feasibility was evaluated through combining local biophysical constraints, economic viability (via restoration-induced carbon gains vs. opportunity costs), operational practicality, and simulated infrastructure expansion. The results showed that per-unit-area ecosystem services in border counties (particularly Medog, Cona, and Zayu) exceed that of interior Tibet by a factor of two to four. Combining these various constraints, approximately 4–17% of the border zone remains cost-effective for grassland or forest restoration. Under low carbon pricing (US$10 t−1 CO2), the carbon revenue generated through restoration is insufficient to offset the opportunity cost of agricultural production, constituting a major constraint. Habitat quality, soil conservation, and carbon sequestration increase modestly when induced by restoration, but a pronounced carbon–water trade-off emerges. Planned infrastructure reduces restoration benefits only slightly, whereas raising the carbon price to about US$50 t−1 CO2 substantially expands such benefits. These findings highlight both the opportunities and limits of ecosystem restoration in border regions and point to carbon pricing as the key policy lever for unlocking cost-effective restoration. Current learning and development approaches often struggle to capture dynamic individual capabilities, particularly the skills they acquire informally every day on the job. This dynamic creates a significant gap between what traditional models think people know and their actual performance, leading to an incomplete and often outdated understanding of how ready the workforce truly is, which can hinder organizational adaptability in rapidly evolving environments. This paper proposes a novel dynamic learner-state ecosystem—an AI-driven solution designed to bridge this gap. Our approach leverages specialized AI agents, orchestrated via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), to continuously track and evolve an individual’s multi-dimensional state (e.g., mastery, confidence, context, and decay). The seamless integration of in-workflow performance data will transform daily work activities into granular and actionable data points through AI-powered dynamic xAPI generation into Learning Record Stores (LRSs). This system enables continuous, authentic performance-based assessment, precise skill gap identification, and highly personalized interventions. The significance of this ecosystem lies in its ability to provide a real-time understanding of everyone’s capabilities, enabling more accurate workforce planning for the future and cultivating a workforce that is continuously learning and adapting. It ultimately helps to transform learning from a disconnected, occasional event into an integrated and responsive part of everyday work. Full article

An important task for the European Union is to transpose agreements and international standards in regulation and directives that are binding on member states. The resultant European action plans and directives identify priority areas in the building and energy sectors where circular economy principles can be applied. Italy records a general circular materials rate of 20.8%, surpassing the mean European value. But low recycling rates are still registered in the construction sector. This paper aims to assess the position of Italy with respect to the European regulatory framework on circularity in the energy transition of buildings. Firstly, the government’s initiatives and technical standards are introduced and commented upon. Secondly, the study illustrates the current Italian platforms, networks, and public and private initiatives highlighting opportunities and obstacles that the energy sector has to overcome in the area of circularity. It emerges that Italian policies still use voluntary tools that are not sufficiently in line with an effective circular economy model. Moreover, data collection plays a crucial role in accelerating the implementation of future actions. Italy should consider the foundation of a National Observatory for the Circular Economy to elaborate European directives, harmonize regional policies, and promote the implementation of effective practices. Intelligent Route Planning for Transport Ship Formations: A Hierarchical Global–Local Optimization and Collaborative Control Framework

Multi-vessel formation shipping demonstrates significant potential for enhancing maritime transportation efficiency and economy. However, existing route planning systems inadequately address the unique challenges of formations, where traditional methods fail to integrate global optimality, local dynamic obstacle avoidance, and formation coordination into a cohesive system. Global planning often neglects multi-ship collaborative constraints, while local methods disregard vessel maneuvering characteristics and formation stability. This paper proposes GLFM, a three-layer hierarchical framework (global optimization–local adjustment-formation collaboration module) for intelligent route planning of transport ship formations. GLFM integrates an improved multi-objective A* algorithm for global path optimization under dynamic meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) conditions and International Maritime Organization (IMO) safety regulations, with an enhanced Artificial Potential Field (APF) method incorporating ship safety domains for dynamic local obstacle avoidance. Formation, structural stability, and coordination are achieved through an improved leader–follower approach. Simulation results demonstrate that GLFM-generated trajectories significantly outperform conventional routes, reducing average risk level by 38.46% and voyage duration by 12.15%, while maintaining zero speed and period violation rates. Effective obstacle avoidance is achieved, with the leader vessel navigating optimized global waypoints and followers maintaining formation structure. The GLFM framework successfully balances global optimality with local responsiveness, enhances formation transportation efficiency and safety, and provides a comprehensive solution for intelligent route optimization in multi-constrained marine convoy operations. E-Learning is an emerging dominant phenomenon in education, making the development of robust models that can accurately represent the dynamic behavior of learners in MOOCs even more critical. In this article, we propose the Temporal Sparse Attention-Gated Recurrent Unit (TSA-GRU), a novel deep learning framework that combines TSA with a sequential encoder based on the GRU. This hybrid model effectively reconstructs student response times and learning trajectories with high fidelity by leveraging tthe emporal embeddings of instructional and feedback activities. By dynamically filtering noise from student interactions, TSA-GRU generates context-aware representations that seamlessly integrate both short-term fluctuations and long-term learning patterns. Empirical evaluation on the 2009–2010 ASSISTments dataset demonstrates that TSA-GRU achieved a test accuracy of 95.60% and a test loss of 0.0209, outperforming Modular Sparse Attention-Gated Recurrent Unit (MSA-GRU), Bayesian Knowledge Tracing (BKT), Performance Factors Analysis (PFA), and TSA in the same experimental design. TSA-GRU converged in five training epochs; thus, while TSA-GRU is demonstrated to have strong predictive performance for knowledge tracing tasks, these findings are specific to the conducted dataset and should not be implicitly regarded as conclusive for all data. More statistical validation through five-fold cross-validation, confidence intervals, and paired t-tests have confirmed the robustness, consistency, and statistically significant superiority of TSA-GRU over the baseline model MSA-GRU. TSA-GRU’s scalability and capacity to incorporate a temporal dimension of knowledge can make it acceptably well-positioned to analyze complex learner behaviors and plan interventions for adaptive learning in computerized learning systems. Urban flooding has significantly impacted the livelihoods of households and communities worldwide. It highlights the urgency of focusing on both flood preparedness and adaptation strategies to understand the community’s perception and adaptive capacity. This study investigates the levels of risk perception, flood preparedness, and adaptive capacity, while also exploring the inter-relationships among these factors within the context of urban flooding in Malaysia. A quantitative approach was employed, involving a structured questionnaire administered to residents in flood-prone urban areas across Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 212 responses were analysed using descriptive statistics, categorical index classification, and Spearman correlation analysis. The findings indicate that residents generally reported high levels of risk perception and preparedness, although adaptive capacity exhibited greater variability, with a mean score of 3.97 (SD = 0.64). Positive associations were found among risk perception, flood preparedness, and adaptive capacity. This study contributes to the existing knowledge by providing evidence on community resilience and highlighting key factors that can guide flood management policies and encourage adaptive planning at the community level. Strategic Multi-Stage Optimization for Asset Investment in Electricity Distribution Networks Under Load Forecasting Uncertainties

Electricity distribution systems face increasing challenges due to demand growth, regulatory requirements, and the integration of distributed generation. In this context, distribution companies must make strategic and well-supported investment decisions, particularly in asset reinforcement actions such as reconductoring. This paper presents a multi-stage methodology to optimize reconductoring investments under load forecasting uncertainties. The approach combines a decomposition strategy with Monte Carlo simulation to capture demand variability. By discretizing a lognormal probability density function and selecting the largest loads in the network, the methodology balances computational feasibility with modeling accuracy. The optimization model employs exhaustive search techniques independently for each network branch, ensuring precise and consistent investment decisions. Tests conducted on the IEEE 123-bus feeder consider both operational and regulatory constraints from the Brazilian context. Results show that uncertainty-aware planning leads to a narrow investment range—between USD 55,108 and USD 66,504—highlighting the necessity of reconductoring regardless of demand scenarios. A comparative analysis of representative cases reveals consistent interventions, changes in conductor selection, and schedule adjustments based on load conditions. The proposed methodology enables flexible, cost-effective, and regulation-compliant investment planning, offering valuable insights for utilities seeking to enhance network reliability and performance while managing demand uncertainties.
