Enhancing forage protein is key to sustainable ruminant nutrition. The nutritive value of Hedysarum coronarium L. was investigated by studying different preservation systems (fresh vs. dehydrated pellet vs. hay) (Exp. 1) and morphological fractions (flowers vs. leaves vs. stems) (Exp. 2). For the fresh and pelleted systems, two cuts were used. Proximately, total polyphenols and condensed tannins were detected. In vitro fermentation characteristics were studied by incubating samples with buffered sheep rumen fluid, estimating methane production by volatile fatty acids. Fresh and pelleted sulla were more nutritionally advantageous than hay, in terms of metabolizable energy and protein-to-fiber ratio. Pelleting at the beginning of flowering proved to be a suitable forage for sheep feeding due to protein (15.1% DM), metabolizable energy (9.64 MJ/kg DM), structural carbohydrates (39.5% DM), and total polyphenols (13.5 GAE g/kg DM) content. This cut showed an in vitro fermentation rate (9.86 mL/h), organic matter degradability (55.7%), and volatile fatty acids (87.3 mmoL/g) that were higher (p < 0.05) than hay. Flowers and leaves showed higher (p < 0.05) levels of secondary metabolites than stems as well as lower methane production. These results suggest the potential influence of these compounds in reducing rumen emissions. Dehydration and pelleting resulted in an effective preservation method for maintaining nutrients in sulla forage. Full article

To investigate the responses and mechanisms of slash pine under low orthophosphate (Pi) stress and to identify Pi-efficient lines, we analyzed 12 indices related to biomass, root traits, and tissue Pi concentration across 13 slash pine lines subjected to varying Pi treatments. The composite assessment value of low-phosphorus tolerance (D) was calculated by evaluating these 12 response indicators through principal component analysis, in conjunction with the fuzzy membership function method. Nine low-phosphorus tolerance factors (LPTFs)—including above-ground fresh weight (0.69), below-ground fresh weight (0.52), total root length (0.56), root surface area (0.63), root volume (0.67), above-ground Pi concentration (0.78), below-ground Pi concentration (0.52), bioconcentration factor (0.77), and P utilization efficiency (−0.76)—showed significant correlations with D (p < 0.05). Utilizing these nine LPTFs, cluster analysis classified the 13 lines into the following three groups according to their low-phosphorus (P) tolerance: high-P-efficient, medium-P-efficient, and low-P-efficient lines. Under low Pi and Pi-deficiency treatments, line 27 was identified as a high-P-efficient line, while lines 1, 6, and 9 were classified as low-P-efficient lines. Notably, eight genes (SPX1, SPX3, SPX4, PHT1;1, PAP23, SQD1, SQD2, NPC4) and five genes (SPX1, SPX3, SPX4, PAP23, SQD1) were significantly up-regulated in the roots and leaves of both line 27 and line 9 under low-phosphorus stress, respectively. However, the high-P-efficient line 27 exhibited a stronger regulatory capacity with a higher expression of two genes (SPX4, SQD2) in the roots and nine genes (SPX1, SPX3, SPX4, PHT1;1, PAP10, PAP23, SQD1, SQD2, NPC4) in the leaves under low Pi stress. These findings reveal differential responses to low Pi stress among slash pine lines, with line 27 displaying superior low-P tolerance, enabling better adaptation to low Pi environments and the maintenance of normal growth, development, and physiological activities. Peanut cultivation is widely practiced using plastic mulch film, resulting in the accumulation of microplastics/nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) in agricultural soils, potentially negatively affecting peanut growth. To investigate the effects of two polystyrene (PS) sizes (5 μm, 50 nm) and three concentrations (0, 10, and 100 mg L−1) on peanut growth, photosynthetic efficiency, and physiological characteristics, a 15-day hydroponic experiment was conducted using peanut seedlings as the experimental material. The results indicated that PS-MPs/NPs inhibited peanut growth, reduced soil and plant analyzer development (SPAD) values (6.7%), and increased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA, 22.0%), superoxide anion (O2, 3.8%) superoxide dismutase (SOD, 16.1%) and catalase (CAT, 12.1%) activity, and ascorbic acid (ASA, 12.6%) and glutathione (GSH, 9.1%) contents compared to the control. Moreover, high concentrations (100 mg L−1) of PS-MPs/NPs reduced the peanut shoot fresh weight (16.1%) and SPAD value (7.2%) and increased levels of MDA (17.1%), O2 (5.6%), SOD (10.6%), POD (27.2%), CAT (7.3%), ASA (12.3%), and GSH (6.8%) compared to low concentrations (10 mg L−1) of PS-MPs/NPs. Notably, under the same concentration, the impact of 50 nm PS-NPs was stronger than that of 5 μm PS-MPs. The peanut shoot fresh weight of PS-NPs was lower than that of PS-MPs by an average of 7.9%. Additionally, we found that with an increasing exposure time of PS-MPs/NPs, the inhibitory effect of low concentrations of PS-MPs/NPs on the fresh weight was decreased by 2.5%/9.9% (5 d) and then increased by 7.7%/2.7% (15 d). Conversely, high concentrations of PS-MPs/NPs consistently reduced the fresh weight. Correlation analysis revealed a clear positive correlation between peanut biomass and both the SPAD values as well as Fv/Fm, and a negative correlation with MDA, SOD, CAT, ASA, and GSH. Furthermore, the presence of PS-MPs/NPs in roots, stems, and leaves was confirmed using a confocal laser scanning microscope. The internalization of PS-MPs/NPs within peanut tissues negatively impacted peanut growth by increasing the MDA and O2 levels, reducing the SPAD values, and inhibiting the photosynthetic capacity. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that the effects of PS on peanuts were correlated with the PS size, concentration, and exposure time, highlighting the potential risk of 50 nm to 5 μm PS being absorbed by peanuts. Black tea is widely consumed worldwide, and its characteristic taste and color result from fermentation, where polyphenols are enzymatically oxidized to generate major pigments, including theaflavins (TFs), thearubigins (TRs), and theabrownins (TBs). This study investigated the effects of increased oxygen treatment during fermentation on the flavor attributes and chemical properties of Congou black tea. Fresh tea leaves (variety “Fuyun 6”) were subjected to four oxygen treatments: 0 h (CK), 1 h (TY-1h), 2 h (TY-2h), and 3 h (TY-3h), with oxygen supplied at 8.0 L/min. Sensory evaluation revealed that oxygen-treated samples exhibited tighter and deeper-colored leaves, a redder liquor, fuller taste, and a sweeter fragrance compared with CK. Chromatic analysis showed significant increases in redness (a*) and luminance (L*), alongside reduced yellowness (b*), indicating enhanced liquor color. Chemical analyses demonstrated elevated levels of TFs, TRs, and TBs in oxygen treatments, with TRs showing the most pronounced increase. Non-targeted metabolomics identified 2318 non-volatile and 761 volatile metabolites, highlighting upregulated flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lipids, and downregulated catechins and tannins, which collectively contributed to improved taste and aroma. Optimal results were achieved with 2–3 h of oxygen treatment, balancing pigment formation and sensory quality. These findings can provide a scientific basis for optimizing oxygen conditions in black tea fermentation to improve product quality. Full article

This study evaluated the influence of compost and bioinoculants (mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth-promoting bacteria) on the yield and composition of essential oil extracted from Tanacetum balsamita L. over two growing seasons. The plants were cultivated under four treatments: compost, bioinoculants, a combination (bioinoculants + compost), and a control. At each harvest, essential oil was extracted from fresh leaves via stem-flow distillation and analyzed using gas chromatography coupled with single quadrupole mass spectrometry. Twenty to twenty-four compounds were identified. Based on the dominant terpene derivative, the results indicated that Tanacetum balsamita L. cultivated in Italy belongs to “camphor” chemotype, a pharmacologically active compound known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. Moreover, three compounds, α-, β-phellandrene and myrtenol, were identified as typical of Tanacetum balsamita L. cultivated in Italy. Treatment effects were significant for some compounds (camphor, borneol, terpinen-4-ol, α-terpineol, dehydro sabinene ketone, and 3-thujanol), and the interaction between treatment and year was significant for a few compounds (borneol, terpinen-4-ol, dehydro sabinene ketone, 1,8-cineol, and 3-thujanol). These results emphasize the need to account for seasonal variation and underline the necessity of a deeper understanding of how experimental factors interact with them, especially in long-term essential oil studies. Jujubes have a beautiful taste, and high nutritional and economic value. The planting area of dwarf and densely planted jujubes is large and shows an increasing trend; however, the mechanization level and efficiency of fresh jujube harvesting are low. For this reason, our research group conducted a study on mechanical harvesting technology for fresh jujubes. A pneumatic jujube harvester was designed. This harvester is composed of a self-regulating picking mechanism, a telescopic conveying pipe, a negative pressure generator, a cleaning mechanism, a double-chamber collection box, a single-door shell, a control assembly, a generator, a towing mobile chassis, etc. During the harvest, the fresh jujubes on the branches are picked under the combined effect of the flexible squeezing of the picking roller and the suction force of the negative pressure air flow. They then enter the cleaning mechanism through the telescopic conveying pipe. Under the combined effect of the upper and lower baffles of the cleaning mechanism and the negative-pressure air flow, the fresh jujubes are separated from impurities such as jujube leaves and branches. The clean fresh jujubes fall into the collection box. We considered the damage rate of fresh jujubes, impurity rate, leakage rate, and harvesting efficiency as the indexes, and the negative-pressure suction wind speed, picking roller rotational speed, and the inclination angle of the upper and lower baffles of the cleaning and selection machinery as the test factors, and carried out the harvesting test of fresh jujubes. The test results show that when the negative-pressure suction wind speed was 25 m/s, the picking roller rotational speed was 31 r/min, and the inclination angles of the upper and lower baffle plates for cleaning and selecting were −19° and 19.5°, respectively, the breakage rate of fresh jujube harvesting was 0.90%, the rate of impurity was 1.54%, the rate of leakage was 2.59%, and the efficiency of harvesting was 73.37 kg/h, realizing the high-efficiency and low-loss harvesting of fresh jujubes. This study provides a reference for the research and development of fresh jujube mechanical harvesting technology and equipment. Full article

Peatlands store substantial amounts of carbon (C) in the form of peat, but are increasingly threatened by drought and shrub encroachment under climate warming. However, how peat decomposition and its temperature sensitivity (Q10) vary with depth and plant litter input under these stressors remains poorly understood. We incubated peat from two depths with different degrees of decomposition, either alone or incubated with Sphagnum divinum shoots or Betula ovalifolia leaves, under five temperature levels and two moisture conditions in growth chambers. We found that drought and Betula addition increased CO2 emissions in both peat layers, while Sphagnum affected only shallow peat. Deep peat alone or with Betula exhibited higher Q10 than pure shallow peat. Drought increased the Q10 of both depths’ peat, but this effect disappeared with fresh litter addition. The CO2 production rate showed a positive but marginal correlation with microbial biomass carbon, and it displayed a rather similar responsive trend to warming as the microbial metabolism quotient. These results indicate that both deep and dry peat are more sensitive to warming, highlighting the importance of keeping deep peat buried and waterlogged to conserve existing carbon storage. Additionally, they further emphasize the necessity of Sphagnum moss recovery following vascular plant encroachment in restoring carbon sink function in peatlands. Full article

Background/Objectives: Nitrogen (N) is an essential macronutrient that strongly influences maize growth and metabolism. While many studies have focused on nitrogen responses during later developmental stages, early-stage physiological and metabolic responses remain less explored. This study investigated the effect of different nitrogen-deficient levels on maize seedling growth and primary metabolite profiles. Methods: Seedlings were treated with N-modified nutrient solution, which contained 0% to 120% of the standard nitrogen level (8.5 mM). Results: Nitrogen starvation (N0) significantly reduced plant height (by 11–14%), shoot fresh weight (over 30%) compared to the optimal N supply (N100). Total leaf nitrogen content under N0–N20 was less than half of that in N100, whereas moderate N deficiency resulted in moderate reductions in growth and nitrogen content. Metabolite analysis revealed that N deficiency induced the accumulation of soluble sugars and organic acids (up to threefold), while sufficient N promoted the synthesis of amino acids related to nitrogen assimilation and protein biosynthesis. Statistical analyses (PCA and ANOVA) showed that both genotypes (MB and TYC) and tissue type (upper vs. lower leaves) influenced the metabolic response to nitrogen, with MB displaying more consistent shifts and TYC exhibiting greater variability under moderate stress. Conclusions: These findings highlight the sensitivity of maize seedlings to early nitrogen deficiency, with severity influenced by nitrogen level, tissue-specific position, and genotype; thus underscore the close coordination between physiological growth and primary metabolic pathways in response to nitrogen availability. These findings expand current knowledge of nitrogen response mechanisms and offer practical insights for improving nitrogen use efficiency in maize cultivation. Full article

The common bed bug, Cimex lectularius L., is a pervasive pest of humans throughout the world. Insecticide resistance, cryptic habits, and proclivity for harborage on human belongings have contributed to its global status as a difficult pest to control. Leaves from common bean plants, Phaseolus vulgaris L., which include numerous trichomes, have traditionally been used to capture wandering bed bugs in southeastern Europe. However, fresh leaves rapidly desiccate once removed from plants, losing their trapping ability. A leaf-derived trapping material was developed that does not desiccate as rapidly as fresh leaves and retains the potential to trap bed bugs. In this study, we tested the efficacy of the leaf-derived material in capturing bed bugs. We tested the leaf-derived material in both horizontal and vertical orientations, using fresh bean leaves as positive controls. When deployed horizontally, the leaf-derived material captured bed bugs of all life stages and both sexes (adults). Leaf-derived material was also found to capture bed bugs in a vertical orientation (only evaluated for adult male bed bugs). Because this experimental leaf-derived material was effective in both horizontal and vertical orientations and against all life stages, it may have great potential for development into bed bug monitoring or exclusion devices. Moringa peregrina (Forssk.) Fiori is a tropical tree in southern Iran known as the most important natural coagulant in the world. Today, plant tissue culture is a new method that has a very high potential to produce valuable medicinal compounds on a commercial level. Advances in in vitro cultivation methods have increased the usefulness of plants as renewable resources. In this study, in addition to the phytochemical analysis of the extract of M. peregrina using HPLC, the interaction effect of different concentrations of aqueous extract of M. peregrina (0, 1, 1.5, and 3 mg/L) in two types of MS and ½ MS basal culture media over three weeks on the in vitro growth of Staurogyne repens (Nees) Kuntze was studied. The amounts of quercetin, gallic acid, caffeic acid, and myricetin in the aqueous extract of M. peregrina were 64.9, 374.8, 42, and 4.6 mg/g, respectively. The results showed that using M. peregrina leaf aqueous extract had a positive effect on the length of the branches, the percentage of green leaves, rooting, and the fresh and dry weight of S. repens samples. The highest increase in growth indices was observed in the MS culture medium supplemented with 3 mg/L of M. peregrina leaf aqueous extract after three weeks of cultivation. Of course, this effect was significantly greater in the MS medium and at higher concentrations compared to the ½ MS medium. Three weeks after cultivation at a concentration of 3 mg/L of the extract, the length of the S. repens branches was 5.3 and 1.8 cm in the two basic MS and ½ MS culture media, and the percentage of green leaves was 14 and 4 percent, respectively. Also, rooting was measured at 9.6 and 3.6 percent, fresh weight at 6 and 1.4 g, and dry weight at 1.1 and 0.03 g, respectively. Therefore, adding M. peregrina leaf aqueous extract as a stimulant significantly increased the in vitro growth of S. repens. Full article

The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance and physicochemical characteristics of broccoli grown under different doses and sources of special phosphorus (P) fertilizers and their residual effect on the soil, in Cerrado mineiro. A randomized block design arranged in a split-plot scheme was employed, where three P sources—T1 = Conventional monoammonium phosphate (CMP); T2 = Polymerized monoammonium phosphate (PCMP); T3 = Granulated organomineral fertilizer (GOF)—along with four P2O5 rates—1–0 (No P); 2–50% (200 kg ha−1 P2O5); 3–75% (300 kg ha−1 P2O5); and 4–100% (400 kg ha−1 P2O5)—were assessed. Evaluations included the number of leaves (NL), head fresh (HFM) and dry mass (HDM), yield (YLD), soil fertility at harvest, plant nutritional status, and the physicochemical quality of the harvested broccoli. It was observed that GOF provided the best agronomic performance (HFM, HDM and YLD) of the broccoli and the greatest residual effect in the soil compared to PCMP and CMP. The moisture, ash, protein, lipid, total titratable acid and ascorbic acid contents were not significantly (p < 0.05) affected by the fertilizers used, on the other hand, total soluble solids and hydrogen potential showed the highest and lowest values, respectively, with CMP. The best agronomic performance, the highest phosphorus content in the soil and plant and the best physical–chemical quality of the broccoli occurred at a dose of 100% (400 kg ha−1 of P2O5) of the recommendation for the crop in all three fertilizers evaluated. StMAPKK1 Enhances Thermotolerance in Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) by Enhancing Antioxidant Defense and Photosynthetic Efficiency Under Heat Stress

The functional role of MAPKK genes in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) under high-temperature stress remains unexplored, despite their critical importance in stress signaling and yield protection. We characterized StMAPKK1, a novel group D MAPKK localized to plasma membrane/cytoplasm. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) revealed cultivar-specific upregulation in potato (‘Atlantic’ and ‘Desiree’) leaves under heat stress (25 °C, 30 °C, and 35 °C). Transgenic lines overexpressing (OE) StMAPKK1 exhibited elevated antioxidant enzyme activity, including ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD), mitigating oxidative damage. Increased proline and chlorophyll accumulation and reduced oxidative stress markers, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA), indicate improved cellular redox homeostasis. The upregulation of key antioxidant and heat stress-responsive genes (StAPX, StCAT1/2, StPOD12/47, StFeSOD2/3, StMnSOD, StCuZnSOD1/2, StHSFA3 and StHSP20/70/90) strengthened the enzymatic defense system, enhanced thermotolerance, and improved photosynthetic efficiency, with significant improvements in net photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (E), and stomatal conductance (Gs) under heat stress (35 °C) in StMAPKK1-OE plants. Superior growth and biomass (plant height, plant and its root fresh and dry weights, and tuber yield) accumulation, confirming the positive role of StMAPKK1 in thermotolerance. Conversely, RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated suppression of StMAPKK1 led to a reduction in enzymatic activity, proline content, and chlorophyll levels, exacerbating oxidative stress. Downregulation of antioxidant-related genes impaired ROS scavenging capacity and declines in photosynthetic efficiency, growth, and biomass, accompanied by elevated H2O2 and MDA accumulation, highlighting the essential role of StMAPKK1 in heat stress adaptation. These findings highlight StMAPKK1’s potential as a key genetic target for breeding heat-tolerant potato varieties, offering a foundation for improving crop resilience in warming climates. Knowledge about the composition (volatile and non-volatile) and functionality of natural extracts from Mediterranean plants serves as a basis for their further application. In this study, five selected plants were used for the extraction of plant metabolites. Leaves and flowers of Critmum maritimum, Rosmarinus officinalis, Olea europea, Phylliera latifolia and Mellisa officinalis were collected, and a total of 12 extracts were prepared. Extractions were performed under microwave-assisted conditions, with two solvent types: water (W) and a hydroalcoholic (ethanolic) solution (HA). Detailed extract analysis was conducted. Phenolics were analyzed by detecting individual bioactive compounds using high-performance liquid chromatography and by calculating total phenolic and total flavonoid content through spectrophotometric analysis. Higher concentrations of total phenolics and total flavonoids were obtained in the hydroalcoholic extracts, with the significantly highest total phenolic and flavonoid values in the rosemary hydroalcoholic extract (3321.21 mgGAE/L) and sea fennel flower extract (1794.63 mgQE/L), respectively; and the lowest phenolics in the water extract of olive leaves (204.55 mgGAE/L) and flavonoids in the water extracts of sea fennel leaves, rosemary, olive and mock privet (around 100 mgQE/L). Volatile organic compounds (VOC) were detected using HS-SPME/GC–MS (Headspace Solid-Phase Microextraction coupled with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), and antioxidant capacity was estimated using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay) and FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) methods. HS-SPME/GC–MS analysis of samples revealed that sea fennel had more versatile profile, with the presence of 66 and 36 VOCs in W and HA sea fennel leaf extracts, 52 and 25 in W and HA sea fennel flower extracts, 57 in rosemary W and 40 in HA, 20 in olive leaf W and 9 in HA, 27 in W mock privet and 11 in HA, and 35 in lemon balm W and 10 in HA extract. The lowest values of chlorophyll a were observed in sea fennel leaves (2.52 mg/L) and rosemary (2.21 mg/L), and chlorophyll b was lowest in sea fennel leaf and flower (2.47 and 2.25 mg/L, respectively), while the highest was determined in olive (6.62 mg/L). Highest values for antioxidant activity, determined via the FRAP method, were obtained in the HA plant extracts (up to 11,216 mgAAE/L for lemon balm), excluding the sea fennel leaf (2758 mgAAE/L) and rosemary (2616 mgAAE/L). Considering the application of these plants for fresh fish preservation, antimicrobial activity of water extracts was assessed against Vibrio fischeri JCM 18803, Vibrio alginolyticus 3050, Aeromonas hydrophila JCM 1027, Moraxella lacunata JCM 20914 and Yersinia ruckeri JCM 15110. No activity was observed against Y. ruckeri and P. aeruginosa, while the sea fennel leaf showed inhibition against V. fisheri (inhibition zone of 24 mm); sea fennel flower was active against M. lacunata (inhibition zone of 14.5 mm) and A. hydrophila (inhibition zone of 20 mm); and rosemary and lemon balm showed inhibition only against V. fisheri (inhibition zone from 18 to 30 mm). This study supports the preparation of natural extracts from Mediterranean plants using green technology, resulting in extracts rich in polyphenolics with strong antioxidant potential, but with no clear significant antimicrobial efficiency at the tested concentrations. Background: Conventional practices for the cultivation of “Cipollotto Nocerino” spring onion are mainly based on growers’ experience, and up to 250 kg/ha for N is commonly furnished among growing cycles. Facing the issue of reduced availability of natural resources for crop production (for example mineral resources), we investigated the optimization of the productivity. Methods: In our research, we tested the use of depletion nutrient supply strategy (CAL-FERT®) to enhance fertilization in accordance with the principle of sustainable agriculture included in the Farm to Fork strategy. In our study, besides the common initial fertilization, three different strategies for cover fertilizations have been elaborated with the support of CAL-FERT® software. The treatments were as follows: (i) commercial standard fertilization as control (named CF); (ii) fertilization equivalent to 50% of the N applied in the control (named F-50); (iii) fertilization corresponding to 25% of the N applied in the control (named F-25); and (iv) strongly reduced fertilization compared to the control (named F-0). The parameters investigated included the following: plant height, yield, SPAD index, nitrogen use efficiency, dry matter, soluble solid content, and pyruvate contents in bulbs and leaves. Nitrogen content was also analyzed for both hypogeous and epigeous apparatuses. Results: Among the most interesting vegetative results, plant height and SPAD readings were reduced only by the extreme treatment F-0 compared with the other treatments at 104 days after planting. Regarding qualitative and productive parameters, the treatments F-50 and F-25 showed the highest yield without prejudging Soluble Solid Content and reducing pungency. Conclusion: In nutritional experiments, onion could be considered as a crop model to investigate quality in vegetables due to its consumption as fresh product and for its particular response, in terms of yield and quality, to fertilization. The use of simulation software can support the identification of strategies to reduce the nutrient supply without any detrimental effect on yield and other vegetative and qualitative parameters in onion crops. Aphelenchoides besseyi is considered a highly prevalent facultative plant-parasitic nematode and has a significant impact on various economically important crops globally. Due to the lack of knowledge on the efficacy of various management techniques, A. besseyi is still challenging to control in the open field. The present investigation successfully shed light on some significant new points, including the following: (1) A. besseyi was confirmed inside all soybean tissues—including roots, stems, leaves, and seeds—indicating its endoparasitic nature and its strong ability to reach the upper foliar system where it causes green stem and foliar retention syndrome (GSFR) symptoms; (2) inoculated plants exhibited reduced vegetative growth parameters, as non-inoculated control soybean plants showed higher values of plant height (PH), fresh root weight (FRW), and fresh shoot weight (FSW) compared to inoculated plants; (3) Yudou 29 was identified as highly resistant to A. besseyi, as results from the resistance screening assay among different Chinese soybean cultivars confirmed its strong resistance under natural field infestation conditions; and (4) soybean seeds may act as inoculum sources of A. besseyi, highlighting the need to develop more effective control measures to prevent or limit nematode dissemination through seed transmission.
