This study evaluates the effectiveness of the B Impact Assessment (BIA) as a catalyst for integrating sustainability into industrial firms through a qualitative case study of LC Paper, the first B Corp-certified tissue manufacturer globally and a pioneer in applying BIA in the pulp and paper sector. Based on semi-structured interviews, organizational documents, and direct observation, this study examines how BIA influences corporate governance, environmental practices, and stakeholder engagement. The findings show that BIA fosters structured goal setting and the implementation of measurable actions aligned with environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic resilience. Tangible outcomes include improved stakeholder trust, internal transparency, and employee development, while implementation challenges such as resource allocation and procedural complexity are also reported. Although the single-case design limits generalizability, this study identifies mechanisms transferable to other firms, particularly those in environmentally intensive sectors. The case studied also illustrates how leadership commitment, participatory governance, and data-driven tools facilitate the operationalization of sustainability. By integrating stakeholder and institutional theory, this study contributes conceptually to understanding certification frameworks as tools for embedding sustainability. This research offers both theoretical and practical insights into how firms can align strategy and impact, expanding the application of BIA beyond early adopters and into traditional industrial contexts. As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded in organizational development, understanding how leadership shapes employee responses to AI is critical for fostering workplace innovation. Drawing on trait activation theory, this study develops a theoretical model in which employee AI trust enhances innovative performance through AI crafting. Paternalistic leadership serves as a situational moderator, while the leader’s AI opportunity perception functions as a higher-order moderator. A three-wave survey was conducted with 523 employees from 14 AI-intensive manufacturing firms in China. Results show that the interaction between AI trust and paternalistic leadership positively predicts both AI crafting and innovative performance. In addition, AI crafting mediates the effect of the interaction term on innovative performance. Furthermore, the leader’s AI opportunity perception moderates this interactive effect: when this perception is high, the positive impact of AI trust and paternalistic leadership on AI crafting is significantly stronger; when it is low, the effect weakens. These findings contribute to the literature by clarifying the situational and cognitive conditions under which AI trust promotes innovation, thereby extending trait activation theory to AI-enabled workplaces and offering actionable insights for leadership development in the intelligent era. As artificial intelligence (AI) technology becomes increasingly widespread in organizations, its impact on individual employees’ psychology and behavior has garnered growing attention. Existing research primarily focuses on AI’s effects on organizational performance and job design, with limited exploration of its mechanisms influencing individual employees, particularly in the critical area of risk-taking behavior, which is essential to organizational innovation. This research develops a moderated mediation model grounded in social cognitive theory (SCT) to explore how AI usage affects the willingness to take risks. A three-wave longitudinal study collected and statistically analyzed data from 442 participants. The findings reveal that (1) AI usage significantly enhances employees’ willingness to take risks; (2) self-efficacy serves as a partial mediator in the connection between AI usage and the willingness to take risks; and (3) learning goal orientation moderates both the relationship between AI usage and self-efficacy, as well as the mediating effect. This research enhances our understanding of AI’s impact on organizational behavior and provides valuable insights for human resource management in the AI era. Full article

The growing number of senior experts leaving the workforce (especially in more developed economies, such as in Europe), combined with the ubiquitous access to artificial intelligence (AI), is triggering organizations to review their knowledge transfer programs, motivated by both financial and management perspectives. Our study aims to contribute to the field by analyzing options to integrate intergenerational tacit knowledge transfer (InterGenTacitKT) with AI-driven approaches, offering a novel perspective on sustainable Knowledge and Human Resource Management in organizations. We will do this by building on previous research and by extracting findings from 36 in-depth semi-structured interviews that provided success factors for junior/senior tandems (JuSeTs) as one notable format of tacit knowledge transfer. We also refer to the literature, in a grounded theory iterative process, analyzing current findings on the use of AI in tacit knowledge transfer and triangulating and critically synthesizing these sources of data. We suggest that adding AI into a tandem situation can facilitate collaboration and thus aid in knowledge transfer and trust-building. We posit that AI can offer strong complementary services for InterGenTacitKT by fostering the identified success factors for JuSeTs (clarity of roles, complementary skill sets, matching personalities, and trust), thus offering organizations a powerful means to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of InterGenTacitKT that also strengthens employee productivity, satisfaction, and loyalty and overall organizational competitiveness. In light of the changing demands of the labor market and the digital orientation of today’s student population, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of a digital game-based intervention as a tool for enhancing team adaptation and social perception in an academic environment. This research was designed as an experiment involving 90 university students who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n = 45) or a control group (n = 45). The experimental group participated in a multiplayer cooperative MOBA-type game, in which each participant assumed a specific team role. Before and after the intervention, participants completed a standardized questionnaire focused on team dynamics, including trust, orientation towards shared goals, and mutual awareness. The results from the Wilcoxon test and Mann–Whitney U test revealed statistically significant improvements in identifying team members’ strengths and weaknesses, a reduction in the perceived lack of trust, and an increased orientation toward shared goals. The findings confirm that a digital gaming environment can activate key mechanisms of team dynamics and may serve as an effective tool for supporting the adaptation of young employees in practice. Future research should include more diverse samples and incorporate objective observation alongside self-assessment. Full article

This inquiry articulates a conceptually cohesive framework to explore the interplay between ethical leadership–affective commitment, particularly in settings characterized by socio-environmental volatility. Central to the analysis is the examination of how ethical climate functions as a psychological conduit and how psychological empowerment modulates this pathway. Empirical validation was carried out with a sample of 448 employees (175 women, 273 men) from Colombia’s electricity sector, a context where institutional fragility elevates the salience of ethical practices. The study employed structural equation modeling to test the model’s robustness. Results underscore that ethical leadership cultivates a benevolent ethical climate, which in turn reinforces affective commitment. Importantly, this sequence is not fixed but is contingent upon psychological empowerment. The influence of ethical leadership on ethical climate and especially on affective commitment is amplified when empowerment is high; likewise, the ethical climate–affective commitment link becomes more salient under elevated empowerment conditions. These findings highlight the influence of ethical dynamics in organizations. Beyond model validation, this research contributes to broader conversations on social sustainability. Ethical leadership is shown to foster organizational climates rooted in fairness, stakeholder sensitivity, and moral coherence—factors essential for long-term institutional legitimacy. In environments such as Colombia’s electricity industry, where governance infrastructures are evolving, such leadership emerges as a necessary condition for rebuilding trust and promoting shared ethical standards. Accordingly, this study advocates for the systematic cultivation of ethical leadership as a means to enhance organizational loyalty and public credibility. The theoretical model presented here offers fertile ground for cross-cultural replication and further inquiry across industries in emerging economies. Full article

The purpose of this conceptual and explorative study is to investigate whether health-promoting self-leadership could be used as a coping strategy enabling employees to deal with negative emotions in an organizational change process, providing a conceptual framework. A total of 18 faculty members from a Nordic university college were interviewed about their experiences, perceptions, and emotional reactions. The study reveals that new IT-systems; heavier workloads; and a lack of involvement, trust, and information, in particular, were stated to be the main reasons for negative emotions, detachment from the university-status aim, and the disruption of employee work–life balance. A few faculty members practiced fragments of what, in theory, is defined as health-promoting self-leadership to successfully manage the organizational change processes. Some were unconscious of their self-leadership practices, while others had no tools to enable them to cope with changes, leading to negative emotions. I discuss the findings regarding health-promoting self-leadership practice based on self-leadership, change management, and emotion theory. Based on both the findings in this study and relevant theories regarding self-leadership and coping strategies, I propose a health-promoting self-leadership-based coping model that could provide both individual and organizational health and performance benefits. This study explores the factors driving employees’ sustainability-switching behaviors (SSBs) by integrating the Push, Pull, and Mooring (PPM) model with the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA). A quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted with a convenience sample of 132 professionals actively involved in organizational sustainability initiatives across diverse industries and global regions. The findings reveal that leadership commitment significantly fosters both affective and normative employee commitments, with normative commitment positively influencing SSB. Surprisingly, organizational trust showed a negative impact on SSB, suggesting that employees may delegate responsibility for sustainability to the organization when trust is high. Inertia emerged as a strong barrier to behavioral change, independently inhibiting sustainability efforts. The study highlights the complex dynamics among leadership, trust, and inertia, offering practical insights for organizations aiming to foster sustainability. Addressing inertia directly and promoting shared responsibility for sustainability are critical for successful organizational transitions. Future research should explore the psychological mechanisms behind inertia and further investigate the paradoxical role of trust in sustainability initiatives. Full article

This study investigates how inclusive leadership, mentorship, and digital tools shape conflict prevention and social cohesion within the Greek public sector. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative design, data were collected from 203 employees across municipalities, ministries, regional, and decentralized administrations. The survey instrument captured four dimensions: leadership and mediation for social cohesion, mentorship for the empowerment of vulnerable groups, use of digital tools, and the perceived social impact of inadequate conflict management. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test direct and indirect effects, evaluate the explanatory and predictive power of the model, and explore the mediation mechanisms linking leadership, mentorship, and digital tools to social cohesion. The results demonstrate that both leadership and mentorship are positively perceived and significantly interrelated, jointly enhancing workplace cohesion and trust. Mentorship emerged as a critical predictor of digital tool adoption, highlighting its role as a bridge for digital inclusion and organizational innovation. In contrast, digital tools, despite their high importance in the model, remain underutilized and require further investment in training and integration. Poor conflict management is perceived as a major organizational risk, strongly linked to increased stress, diminished trust, and a deteriorated workplace climate. These findings highlight the value of integrating mentorship and inclusive leadership with mediation and digital technologies, supporting the development of hybrid strategies for conflict management. The study enriches theoretical debates on organizational resilience and social cohesion, while offering practical recommendations for modernizing public administration through participatory leadership, targeted mentoring programs, and the thoughtful adoption of digital solutions. Growing concern over food safety and adulteration has thrust milk traceability technologies to the forefront of agrifood supply chains. This qualitative study explores the technological, organisational, and environmental (TOE) determinants of traceability technology adoption in Saudi Arabia’s dairy sector. In-depth semi-structured interviews with nine senior managers from small-, medium-, and large-scale dairy farms were analysed thematically in NVivo. Thematic analysis revealed that technological cost and compatibility played crucial role, while contrary to the prior literature, respondents downplayed technological complexity, arguing that training could offset it. Organisational culture and employee resistance were the primary inhibitors within dairy firms. Saudi Vision 2030, post COVID-19 consumer pressure and competitor pressure emerged as the dominant environmental factors. The findings offer insights for managers and policymakers on how to improve supply chain transparency, operational efficiency, product quality, and consumer trust while advancing several UN SDGs. This study aims to examine the impact of ESG management activities (independent variable) on organizational trust and organizational commitment (mediating variables), as well as organizational performance (dependent variable), among members of large manufacturing enterprises. Additionally, it investigates the moderating effect of job position on the relationship between ESG management activities and organizational performance. For the empirical analysis of this study, data were collected from 561 employees of three large manufacturing companies—Company L, Company H, and another Company H—all of which have implemented and are practicing ESG management. The data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and structural equation modeling (SEM: AMOS 29.0). The key findings from the empirical analysis are as follows: First of all, all three ESG factors—environmental (E), social (S), and governance (G)—had a positive effect on organizational trust. The environmental and governance factors had a positive effect on organizational commitment. However, the social factor exhibited a negative effect on organizational commitment. The environmental factor showed a negative effect on organizational performance. By contrast, the social and governance factors had a positive effect on organizational performance. Organizational trust was found to enhance organizational commitment significantly, confirming that employees who trust their organization are more likely to be committed to it. Fifth, a strong sense of trust in the organization was shown to contribute positively to organizational performance and competitiveness. Organizational commitment positively impacted organizational performance, reinforcing the idea that highly committed employees contribute to better outcomes. Finally, this study confirmed that job position moderated the relationship between ESG management activities and organizational performance, indicating that employees at different hierarchical levels perceive ESG management’s impact differently. This study expands the research scope of ESG management beyond marketing, HR, and service industries to focus on employees in large manufacturing enterprises. This provides new insights into how ESG initiatives influence internal organizational dynamics. This study is meaningful in that it provides a foundation for expanding future research into the field of finance or other areas of the manufacturing industry. From a practical standpoint, the findings highlight the necessity of strategic initiatives to ensure that employees fully understand and engage with ESG-related policies. To successfully implement ESG management, organizations must develop effective communication and integration strategies that foster employees’ recognition of ESG initiatives. Full article

Organizational Trust as a Driver of Eudaimonic and Digital Well-Being in IT Professionals: A Cross-Cultural Study

(1) Background: This study examines the relationships between organizational trust, eudaimonic well-being, and digital well-being among IT professionals in Poland and Italy. The research investigates how organizational trust influences well-being outcomes in contrasting cultural and economic environments. (2) Methods: the study used a quantitative research strategy, applying the diagnostic survey method through a structured, self-administered questionnaire available in both Polish and Italian. The sample consisted of 243 public sector employees working in the IT domain (116 in Poland and 127 in Italy), including administrative staff, IT professionals, and mid-level managers with varying levels of work experience. (3) Results: The findings demonstrate that organizational trust significantly enhances eudaimonic well-being, particularly in Poland, where a fast-paced and innovation-driven IT sector creates heightened demands for psychological safety and stability. While organizational trust also positively influenced digital well-being in both countries, this relationship was stronger in Poland than in Italy, suggesting that cultural and organizational differences mediate the impact of organizational trust on digital stress management. These findings also support global policy efforts, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and European digital policy frameworks, to promote socially sustainable and resilient digital workplaces. (4) Conclusions: The study underscores the need for organizations to implement transparent communication, career development initiatives, and proactive digital well-being strategies to ensure employees feel supported and engaged. Microplastics are found in Earth’s atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, pedosphere, and ecosphere. While there is a growing interest and need to solve this grand challenge in both the academic and policy realms, few have engaged with academics, policymakers, and community partners to co-identify the problem, co-design research, and co-produce knowledge in tackling this issue. Using a convergence research framework, we investigated the perception of microplastic pollution among different end users, delivered educational materials to K-12 teachers and practitioners, and identified key sampling points for assessing environmental microplastic concentrations in the Columbia River Basin, United States. Three community partner workshops identified regional issues and concerns associated with microplastic pollution and explored potential policy intervention strategies. The stakeholder survey, co-designed with community partners, identified varying perceptions around microplastic pollution across educators, government employees, non-profit employees, and industry practitioners. Pre- and post-test results of teacher workshops show increases in participants’ knowledge after taking a four-week summer class with the knowledge being translated to their students. Community partners also helped develop a unique passive sampling plan for atmospheric deposition of microplastics using synoptic moss samples and provided freshwater samples for microplastic quantification across the basin. Our study drew three major lessons for successfully conducting convergence environmental research—(1) communication and trust building, supported by the use of key-informants to expand networks; (2) co-creation through collaboration, where partners and students shaped research and education to enhance impact; and (3) change-making, as project insights were translated into policy discussions, community outreach, and classrooms. Sustainable marketing emphasizes the integration of social and environmental responsibility into business strategies, positioning employer branding as a vital tool for advancing sustainable organizational practices. Within the healthcare context of Jordan—a country facing unique socio-cultural and systemic challenges—employer branding may foster a culture that promotes safety and employee well-being. While the findings are context-specific, they offer preliminary insights that may be useful in similar healthcare environments in the Middle East or other collectivist settings. This study explores the use of employer branding as a strategic lever to enhance nurses’ safety voice behavior, a critical component of organizational safety and patient care, through the mediating role of employee engagement. Drawing on employer brand theory and self-determination theory, this research investigates how a strong employer brand image contributes to a more engaged nursing workforce, thereby encouraging proactive communication regarding safety concerns. Data were collected from 240 nurses employed at Jordanian hospitals between September and November 2024. The findings reveal that sustainable employer branding—characterized by transparent, ethical, and inclusive organizational values—significantly enhances employee engagement and, in turn, motivates safety voice behavior. By cultivating a supportive work environment that aligns with nurses’ intrinsic motivations, hospitals can improve not only internal communication around safety but also long-term organizational resilience and trust. This aligns with sustainable marketing principles, which advocate for responsible internal stakeholder engagement as part of a broader sustainability agenda. Full article

Antecedents of Workplace Psychological Safety in Public Safety and Frontline Healthcare: A Scoping Review

Workplace psychological safety (PS) has been recognized as crucial in mitigating organizational stressors and enhancing positive workplace outcomes, particularly in high-risk occupations such as healthcare and public safety. This scoping review aims to synthesize the existing literature on psychological safety in high-risk workplaces to identify key antecedents, workplace enhancements, and research gaps. A systematic search of studies published between 2010 and January 2025 was conducted across multiple databases, including CINAHL, Medline, ERIC, JSTOR, PsycInfo, Business Source Ultimate, and Sociological Abstract. Inclusion criteria focused on adult workers in high-risk workplace environments. Following screening and eligibility assessments, 16 studies from six countries were selected for analysis. Data were extracted and thematically analyzed based on leadership styles, organizational structures, and workplace culture related to psychological safety. The review identified three primary antecedents of psychological safety in high-risk workplaces: (1) inclusive and transformational leadership styles, (2) hierarchical structures and power dynamics, and (3) workplace climate and communication culture. Studies consistently found that inclusive leadership, ethical integrity, and transformational leadership were strongly associated with higher psychological safety levels. While hierarchical structures provided the necessary organization, overly rigid hierarchies often suppressed employee voice and innovation. A workplace culture characterized by trust, transparency, and open communication fosters greater psychological safety and improved teamwork and well-being. Full article
