Exclusive Breastfeeding or Formula Use? A Cross-Sectional Survey of Romanian Mothers’ Feeding Practices and Influencing Factors

Background and Objectives: Exclusive breastfeeding offers optimal nutrition and health benefits for infants, yet many mothers face challenges that impact their ability to breastfeed. This study aimed to explore breastfeeding practices among Romanian mothers and identify factors associated with successful exclusive breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted from February to March 2025, targeting Romanian mothers via social media platforms. The questionnaire, developed specifically for this study, collected data on sociodemographics, birth and neonatal variables, hospital practices, feeding intentions, community influences, and breastfeeding outcomes. A total of 874 valid responses were analyzed using Fisher’s exact tests and multivariable logistic regression. Results: While 87.2% of mothers intended to breastfeed, only 56.1% reported exclusive breastfeeding. Factors significantly associated with reduced likelihood of exclusive breastfeeding included maternal age ≥ 30 years (OR = 1.40, p = 0.042), Cesarean delivery (OR = 1.78, p < 0.001), absence of rooming-in (OR = 2.32, p < 0.001), and pacifier use (OR > 4.7, p < 0.001). Protective factors included non-smoking status (OR = 0.52, p < 0.001) and encouragement to breastfeed by medical staff (OR = 1.60, p = 0.004). Despite external advice to use formula, many mothers continued breastfeeding. Conclusions: Although breastfeeding intention was high, exclusive breastfeeding remains suboptimal in Romania. Targeted support—particularly in maternity hospitals and for mothers recovering from Cesarean sections—alongside prenatal education and consistent postnatal guidance are essential to bridge the gap between intention and practice. E-learning is conducted by using electronic media and resources for learning activities. Recently, e-learning platforms have received more attention than traditional learning methods. Advances in information and communication systems have resulted in e-learning websites becoming interactive and flexible. However, the rapid increase in the use of e-learning websites leads to the problem of e-learning website evaluation and selection. In this study, e-learning websites were evaluated by adopting multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM). A new MCDM method, namely additive rank probability (ARP), was developed in this study to select the best e-learning website. To verify the effectiveness of the ARP method, the best C programming website was selected using five alternatives and ten criteria. The ranking of the C programming websites exactly matched those derived by other MCDM methods. However, there was a difference in the ranking by the ARP method with the weighted Euclidean distance-based approximation (WEDBA) method. ARP was proven as a simple and efficient method for identifying the best e-learning website for an effective learning process. Full article

Social media has become a vital communication tool for higher education institutions (HEIs) to reach larger targets, attract followers, and engage with diverse audiences. This study conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis of 4148 Facebook posts from 16 public and private HEIs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The aim of the study is to evaluate users’ engagement through their reactions to various post characteristics, including format, language, and content type. The posts generated 177,022 emotes, 17,269 shares, and 8374 comments. The results showed that images are an efficient format for boosting interaction, whereas plain text posts did not generate high engagement. The English language was more conducive for generating shares, while Arabic-language posts generated more emotes and likes. The comparative analysis results showed that private HEIs are more active on their Facebook pages than public HEIs. The content analysis suggested that student-related posts generate the highest level of engagement, while announcements and faculty- and research-related posts drive the lowest levels of engagement. These results offer valuable insights into how HEIs can optimize their social media strategies to enhance user engagement. Full article

In recent years, the proliferation of fake news and misinformation has grown exponentially, far surpassing that of genuine news and posing a serious threat to social stability. Existing research in fake news detection primarily applies contrastive learning methods with a single-hot labeling strategy. The issue does not lie with contrastive learning as a technique but with its current application in fake news detection systems. Specifically, these systems penalize all negative samples equally due to the use of single-hot labeling, thus overlooking the underlying semantic relationships among negative samples. As a result, contrastive learning models tend to learn from simple samples while neglecting highly deceptive samples located at the boundary between true and false, as well as the heterogeneity of text-image features, which complicates cross-modal fusion. To mitigate these known limitations in current applications, this paper proposes a fake news detection method based on contrastive learning and cross-modal interaction. First, a consistency-aware soft-label contrastive learning mechanism based on semantic similarity is designed to provide more granular supervision signals for contrastive learning. Secondly, a difficult negative sample mining strategy based on a similarity matrix is designed to optimize the symmetry alignment of image and text features, which effectively improves the model’s ability to discriminate boundary samples. To further optimize the feature fusion process, a cross-modal interaction module is designed to learn the symmetric interaction relationship between image and text features. Finally, an attention mechanism is designed to adaptively adjust the contributions of text-image features and interaction features, forming the final multimodal feature representation. Experiments are conducted on two major social media platform datasets, and compared with existing methods, the proposed method effectively improves the detection capability of fake news. Full article

UNS S41003 is a low-cost, low-carbon ferritic stainless steel that exhibits moderate corrosion resistance but limited mechanical performance. This study evaluates the electrochemical behavior of untreated and thermomechanically treated UNS S41003 samples. Corrosion tests were conducted in acidic electrolytes with varying pH to simulate aggressive environments relevant to industrial and structural applications where exposure to acidic media and corrosive pollutants occurs. Potentiodynamic polarization curves for all samples displayed passive regions typically associated with protective oxide film formation; however, localized pitting corrosion was detected post-test. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicated a marked decrease in corrosion resistance as pH decreased. The corrosion resistance of the treated alloy remained comparable to that of the untreated condition, indicating that thermomechanical processing did not detrimentally affect passivity or corrosion performance under the tested conditions. The literature suggests that the applied treatment enhances mechanical properties, supporting the potential use of this alloy in structural components subjected to acidic environments requiring a balance of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Physics concepts are considered an essential component of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and fundamental for economic and technological development in the world. However, there can be student academic underperformance, such as the school environment, learning media and infrastructure, student interest and emotions, as well as social and economic development factors in communities. These problems are even more acute in rural areas of developing countries, where poverty is high and teachers often lack the necessary technological skills. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of a low-cost STEM tool focused on motivation in learning, in terms of five variables of interest in physics in rural areas, as well as the durability of the tools used to learn 12 physics concepts. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with the participation of 78 high school students, with an average age of 15.82 years, in a rural area of Guerrero, Mexico. The results showed that using the STEM tool significantly increased students’ interest in learning methodology, active participation, and attitude towards physics, facilitating the teacher’s work. In addition, the 3D construction kit used in the experimentation, besides being low-cost, proved to be affordable and durable, making it ideal for use in rural areas. Full article

The resistivity imaging system is specifically designed for the precise measurement of resistivity distributions within drilled columnar core samples. Its coaxial symmetric configuration enables the non-destructive characterization of electrical properties, with broad applications in oil and gas exploration, reservoir evaluation, and geological research. By integrating a ring return electrode and full-circumference electrode arrays, the system can acquire core-scale resistivity data in conductive media environments. The self-developed imaging software employs advanced processing algorithms—including depth correction, amplitude normalization, and image enhancement—to transform raw resistivity measurements into high-resolution surface imaging maps. Experimental results demonstrate that the system can resolve features such as cracks with a minimum width of 0.5 mm and pores with a minimum inner diameter of 0.4 mm in granite core, providing a novel technical approach for the fine-scale characterization of core materials. In the era of digital intelligence, digital media landscapes increasingly influence cultural tourism consumption. Consumerism capitalizes on tourists’ superficial aesthetic commonalities, constructing a homogenized media imagination that leads to collective convergence in travel decisions, which obscures aspects of local culture, poses safety risks, and results in fleeting local tourism booms. In this study, semistructured interviews were conducted with 36 tourists, and NVivo12.0 was used for three-level node coding in a qualitative analysis to explore the digital media attributions of conformist travel behavior. The findings indicate that digital media landscapes exert a “digital persuasion” effect by reconstructing self-experience models, directing the individual gaze, and projecting idealized self-images. These mechanisms drive tourists to follow digital traffic trends and engage in imitative behaviors, ultimately shaping the phenomenon of “group roaming”, grounded in the psychological effect of herd behavior. The impact mechanism of long-term creep in gas-containing coal on coal and gas outbursts has not been fully elucidated and remains insufficiently understood for the purpose of disaster engineering control. This investigation conducted triaxial creep experiments on raw coal specimens under controlled confining pressures, axial stresses, and gas pressures. Through systematic analysis of coal’s physical responses across different loading conditions, we developed and validated a novel creep damage constitutive model for gas-saturated coal through laboratory data calibration. The key findings reveal three characteristic creep regimes: (1) a decelerating phase dominates under low stress conditions, (2) progressive transitions to combined decelerating–steady-state creep with increasing stress, and (3) triphasic decelerating–steady–accelerating behavior at critical stress levels. Comparative analysis shows that gas-free specimens exhibit lower cumulative strain than the 0.5 MPa gas-saturated counterparts, with gas presence accelerating creep progression and reducing the time to failure. Measured creep rates demonstrate stress-dependent behavior: primary creep progresses at 0.002–0.011%/min, decaying exponentially to secondary creep rates below 0.001%/min. Steady-state creep rates follow a power law relationship when subject to deviatoric stress (R2 = 0.96). Through the integration of Burgers viscoelastic model with the effective stress principle for porous media, we propose an enhanced constitutive model, incorporating gas adsorption-induced dilatational stresses. This advancement provides a theoretical foundation for predicting time-dependent deformation in deep coal reservoirs and informs monitoring strategies concerning gas-bearing strata stability. This study contributes to the theoretical understanding and engineering monitoring of creep behavior in deep coal rocks. Full article

With the popularization of social media, information related to public health events has seen explosive growth online, making it essential to accurately identify informative tweets with decision-making and management value for public health emergency response and risk monitoring. However, existing methods often suffer performance degradation during cross-event transfer due to differences in data distribution, and research specifically targeting public health events remains limited. To address this, we propose the Label Confusion Domain Adversarial Network (LCDAN), which innovatively integrates label confusion with domain adaptation to enhance the detection of informative tweets across different public health events. First, LCDAN employs an adversarial domain adaptation model to learn cross-domain feature representation. Second, it dynamically evaluates the importance of different source domain samples to the target domain through label confusion to optimize the migration effect. Experiments were conducted on datasets related to COVID-19, Ebola disease, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome public health events. The results demonstrate that LCDAN significantly outperforms existing methods across all tasks. This research provides an effective tool for information detection during public health emergencies, with substantial theoretical and practical implications. Full article

The construction industry is transitioning towards the circular economy, an approach that effectively reduces the industry’s environmental impact and promotes sustainability. However, realising the circular economy goal requires adequate information sharing among stakeholders and across the building lifecycle stages. This research examines the barriers that impede the information-sharing process in construction projects for the circular economy. This research adopts the framework of the information-sharing process, which suggests four essential components: context, content, people, and media. This study systematically searches and analyses the literature to identify and classify the information sharing barriers in the circular economy context, as well as their interaction. This study also conducts a case study to validate the information barrier framework and the findings. The findings suggest that information barriers are interlinked and require comprehensive solutions from the aspects of technology, organisation, and people, instead of single-aspect solutions. As this study provides insights into the systemic complexities of how information flows within the circular economy implementation system, it consequently contributes to the improvement of sustainable construction practices. In the attention-driven environment of online video platforms, understanding the factors that influence content selection and channel subscriptions is crucial for creators, marketers, and platform managers. This study investigates how thumbnails, view counts, video length, genre, and the number of advertisements affect user decision-making on YouTube. Grounded in random utility theory and reference-dependent preference theory, this study conducted a choice experiment with 525 respondents and employed a combined model of rank-ordered and binary logit methods to analyze viewing and subscription behaviors. The results indicate a significant preference for thumbnails with subtitles and shorter videos. Notably, we found evidence of reference-dependent effects, whereby a higher-than-expected number of ads decreased viewing probability, while a lower-than-expected number significantly increased subscription probability. This study advances our understanding of the factors that influence user behavior on social media, specifically in terms of viewing and subscribing, and empirically supports prospect theory in the online advertising market. Our findings offer both theoretical and practical insights into optimizing video content and monetization strategies in competitive social media markets. Full article

Understanding the social drivers of pro-environmental behavior in urban forests and green spaces is critical for addressing sustainability challenges. Subjective norms serve as a key pathway through which social expectations influence individuals’ behavioral intentions. Despite mixed findings in the literature regarding the impact of subjective norms on individuals’ intentions, there is a research gap about the determinants of this construct. This study was conducted to explore how social expectations shape perceived subjective norms among visitors of urban forests. A theoretical model was developed with subjective norms at its center, incorporating their predictors including social identity, media influence, interpersonal influence, and institutional trust, personal norms as a mediator, and behavioral intention as the outcome variable. Using structural equation modeling, data was collected and analyzed from a sample of visitors of urban forests in Tehran, Iran. The results revealed that subjective norms play a central mediating role in linking external social factors to behavioral intention. Social identity emerged as the strongest predictor of subjective norms, followed by media and interpersonal influence, while institutional trust had no significant effect. Subjective norms significantly influenced both personal norms and intentions, and personal norms also directly predicted intention. The model explained 50.9% of the variance in subjective norms and 39.0% in behavioral intention, highlighting its relatively high explanatory power. These findings underscore the importance of social context and internalized norms in shaping sustainable behavior. Policy and managerial implications suggest that strategies should prioritize community-based identity reinforcement, media engagement, and peer influence over top-down institutional messaging. This study contributes to environmental psychology and the behavior change literature by offering an integrated, empirically validated model. It also provides practical guidance for designing interventions that target both social and moral dimensions of environmental action. Full article

Abiotic processes have ramifications in wastewater treatment, in situ degradation of organic matter, and cycling of nutrients in wetland ecosystems. Experiments were conducted to investigate abiotic oxidation of organic compounds (lactate) as a function of electron acceptors (ferric citrate and hydrous ferric oxide (HFO), media composition, and pH under anaerobic conditions, using sodium bicarbonate as the buffering agent. Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) was used as a proxy for the oxidation of substrates. HFO media generated more DIC compared to ferric citrate containing media. Light and pH had major roles in the oxidation of lactate in the presence of ferric iron. Under dark conditions in the presence or absence of Fe(III), the DIC produced was low in all pH conditions. Inhibition of DIC production was also observed upon photo exposure when Fe (III) was absent. Isotopically, the system showed initial mixing between the bicarbonate and the carbon dioxide produced from oxidation later being dominated by carbon isotope value of lactate used. These redox conditions align with previous studies suggesting cleavage of organic compounds by hydroxyl radicals. The slower redox processes observed here, compared to previous studies, could be due to the scavenging effect of chloride ion on the hydroxyl radical. Full article

Creating Micro-Habitat in a Pool-Weir Fish Pass with Flexible Hydraulic Elements: Insights from Field Experiments

The placement of hydraulic elements in existing pool-type fishways to make them more suitable for Cyprinid fish is an issue of increasing interest in fishway research. Hydrodynamic characteristics and fish behavior at the representative pool of the fishway with bottom orifices and notches were assessed at the Dagdelen hydropower plant in the Ceyhan River Basin, Türkiye. Three-dimensional velocity measurements were taken in the pool of the fishway using an Acoustic Doppler velocimeter. The measurements were taken with and without a brush block at two different vertical distances from the bottom, which were below and above the level of bristles tips. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was conducted for the studied fishway. The numerical model utilized Large Eddy Simulation (LES) combined with the Darcy–Forchheimer law, wherein brush blocks were represented as homogenous porous media. Our results revealed that the relative submergence of bristles in the brush block plays a very important role in velocity and Reynolds shear stress (RSS) distributions. After the placement of the submerged brush block, flow velocity and the lateral RSS component were reduced, and a resting area was created behind the brush block below the bristles’ tips. Fish movements in the pool were recorded by underwater cameras under real-time operation conditions. The heatmap analysis, which is a 2-dimensional fish spatial presence visualization technique for a specific time period, showed that Capoeta damascina avoided the areas with high turbulent fluctuations during the tests, and 61.5% of the fish presence intensity was found to be in the low Reynolds shear regions in the pool. This provides a clear case for the real-world ecological benefits of retrofitting existing pool-weir fishways with such flexible hydraulic elements. Full article
