Obesity-related low-grade inflammation is a significant factor responsible for the development of metabolic syndrome and chronic diseases, which can begin even in early childhood. Recently, there has been growing interest in the impact of vitamin D3 supplementation on inflammatory markers in overweight and obese individuals; however, findings remain inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to conduct a systematic review to assess the effects of vitamin D3 supplementation on inflammatory markers in overweight and obese children and adolescents, focused exclusively on the analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) identified by searching PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. The results of this study were synthesized and reported following the PRISMA statement. A total of 294 citations were identified through electronic literature searches, of which two RCTs were finally included in our systematic review. We found that vitamin D3 supplementation did not affect the changes in C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), but led to a decrease in leptin levels. The small number of studies meeting the inclusion criteria for our systematic review limits the value of the presented results, but also indicates the need for in-depth research on this topic. Biomimetic lattice structures, inspired by natural architectures such as bone, coral, mollusk shells, and Euplectella aspergillum, have gained increasing attention for their exceptional strength-to-weight ratios, energy absorption, and deformation control. These properties make them ideal for advanced engineering applications in aerospace, biomedical devices, and structural impact protection. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research on biomimetic lattice structures published between 2020 and 2025, aiming to identify thematic trends, collaboration patterns, and underexplored areas. A curated dataset of 3685 publications was extracted from databases like PubMed, Dimensions, Scopus, IEEE, Google Scholar, and Science Direct and merged together. After the removal of duplication and cleaning, about 2226 full research articles selected for the bibliometric analysis excluding review works, conference papers, book chapters, and notes using Cite space, VOS viewer version 1.6.20, and Bibliometrix R packages (4.5. 64-bit) for mapping co-authorship networks, institutional affiliations, keyword co-occurrence, and citation relationships. A significant increase in the number of publications was found over the past year, reflecting growing interest in this area. The results identify China as the most prolific contributor, with substantial institutional support and active collaboration networks, especially with European research groups. Key research focuses include additive manufacturing, finite element modeling, machine learning-based design optimization, and the performance evaluation of bioinspired geometries. Notably, the integration of artificial intelligence into structural modeling is accelerating a shift toward data-driven design frameworks. However, gaps remain in geometric modeling standardization, fatigue behavior analysis, and the real-world validation of lattice structures under complex loading conditions. This study provides a strategic overview of current research directions and offers guidance for future interdisciplinary exploration. The insights are intended to support researchers and practitioners in advancing next-generation biomimetic materials with superior mechanical performance and application-specific adaptability. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of literature is imperative to elucidate current research landscapes and hotspots in the interplay between gut microbiota and hypertension, identify knowledge gaps, and establish theoretical foundations for the future. We used publications retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and SCOPUS databases (January 2001–December 2024) to analyze the annual publication trends with GraphPad Prism 9.5.1, to evaluate co-authorship, keywords clusters, and co-citation patterns with VOSviewer 1.6.20, and conducted keyword burst detection and keyword co-occurrence utilizing CiteSpace v6.4.1. We have retrieved 2485 relevant publications published over the past 24 years. A 481-fold increase in global annual publications in this field was observed. China was identified as the most productive country, while the United States demonstrated the highest research impact. For the contributor, Yang Tao (University of Toledo, USA) and the University of Florida (USA) have emerged as the most influential contributors. Among journals, the highest number of articles was published in Nutrients (n = 135), which also achieved the highest citation count (n = 5397). The emergence of novel research hotspots was indicated by high-frequency keywords, mainly “hypertensive disorders of pregnancy”, “mendelian randomization”, “gut-heart axis”, and “hepatitis B virus”. “Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO)” and “receptor” may represent promising new research frontiers in the gut microbiota–hypertension nexus. The current research trends are shifting from exploring the factors influencing gut microbiota and hypertension to understanding the underlying mechanisms of these factors and the potential therapeutic applications of microbial modulation for hypertension management. Fish production faces various challenges throughout its cycle, from rearing to consumption. Organic acids have emerged as an effective fish feed and meat treatment solution. They promote health and well-being, control pathogens, improve digestion, and contribute to food preservation. This study was therefore carried out to evaluate the evolution of publications on the use of organic acids in aquaculture over time, identifying the leading journals, authors, countries, and relevant organizations associated with the publications and determining the keywords most used in publications and research trends on this type of accommodation using bibliometric analysis. For this analysis, the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases were used, with the keywords and Boolean operators “organic acid*” AND (“pathogens” OR “microorganism*” OR “bacteria” OR “fungi”) AND (“fish” OR “fry” OR “pisciculture”). Ninety-six articles were found in 44 journals, with the participation of 426 authors and 188 institutions, from 1995 to 2024. The most crucial publication source with the highest impact factor was the journal Aquaculture, with 14 articles, 2 of which were written by the most relevant author, Koh C., who received the highest number of citations and had the highest impact factor among the 426 authors. China had the most scientific production, with 26 publications on organic acids in aquaculture. However, Malaysia was the country that published the most cited documents, a total of 386. The most relevant affiliation was the University of Sains Malaysia, which participated in the publication of eight articles. The 10 most frequent keywords were fish, organic acids, citric acid, article, bacteria, growth, microorganisms, Oncorhynchus mykiss, animals, and digestibility. The results indicate increased publications on the benefits of using organic acids in aquaculture, highlighting their effectiveness as antibacterial agents and promoters of zootechnical development. However, gaps still require more in-depth research into the ideal dosages, mechanisms of action, and long-term impacts of these compounds. Full article

Water is an essential resource for life; however, the quality of available water on the planet has been compromised due to various factors, including microbiological contamination. Objective: To analyze the global scientific production of microbiological water contamination using bibliometric methods. Method: A search for scientific articles was conducted using the advanced query function in the Web of Science™ database, specifically in its core collection, on 26 February 2025. Data from 2000 articles were analyzed using the Bibliometrix package in R (version 4.2.1) and the Biblioshiny application (version 2.0). Results: The evaluated articles were published between 1952 and 2025, with a peak in publications in 2022. The journal Water Research stood out as the most relevant, publishing 128 articles. The Egyptian Knowledge Bank was identified as the most productive institution, while China had the highest number of contributing authors. The most cited article received 475 citations. Additionally, KeyWords Plus™ highlighted the focus of the studies on ecological and biotechnological methods for contaminant removal, as well as the presence of waterborne pathogens and their inactivation methods. Conclusions: The results show a growing interest in the development of ecological and biotechnological methods for contaminant removal and pathogen inactivation in water. The integration of artificial intelligence with real-time monitoring systems emerges as a promising strategy for improving water quality management. These findings highlight the relevance of the topic for public health and health education. Full article

Assessing building fire safety risks during the early design phase is vital for developing practical solutions to minimize loss of life and property. This study aims to identify research trends and provide a guiding framework for researchers by systematically reviewing the literature on integrating machine learning-based predictive methods into building fire safety design using bibliometric methods. This study evaluates machine learning applications in fire safety using a comprehensive approach that combines bibliometric and content analysis methods. For this purpose, as a result of the scan without any year limitation from the Web of Science Core Collection-Citation database, 250 publications, the first of which was published in 2001, and the number has increased since 2019, were reached, and sample analysis was performed. In order to evaluate the contribution of qualified publications to science more accurately, citation counts were analyzed using normalized citation counts that balanced differences in publication fields and publication years. Multiple regression analysis was applied to support this metric’s theoretical basis and determine the impact levels of variables affecting the metric’s value (such as total citation count, publication year, and number of articles). Thus, the statistical impact of factors influencing the formation of the normalized citation count was measured, and the validity of the approach used was tested. The research categories included evacuation and emergency management, fire detection, and early warning systems, fire dynamics and spread prediction, fire load, and material risk analysis, intelligent systems and cyber security, fire prediction, and risk assessment. Convolutional neural networks, artificial neural networks, support vector machines, deep neural networks, you only look once, deep learning, and decision trees were prominent as machine learning categories. As a result, detailed literature was presented to define the academic publication profile of the research area, determine research fronts, detect emerging trends, and reveal sub-themes. Full article

Background/Objectives: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is frequently observed in patients treated with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), yet the role of treatment duration in modulating SIBO risk remains unclear. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the temporal association between PPI use duration and SIBO risk. Methods: Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, the Russian Science Citation Index, and Google Scholar from 1985 to June 2025 and was previously registered in PROSPERO under the registration number CRD420251031719. Eligible studies included observational designs or clinical trials assessing SIBO in adult PPI users. Results: Twenty-nine studies (n = 3682 PPI patients; n = 2907 controls) were included. The pooled SIBO prevalence among PPI-treated patients was 36.839% (95% CI: 29.703–44.277), significantly higher than that among controls (19.887%; 95% CI: 12.027–29.399). PPI use was associated with increased SIBO risk (OR = 2.143; 95% CI: 1.446–3.175), with high heterogeneity (I2 = 77.61%). A duration-dependent trend was observed: our meta-regression analysis demonstrated a significant positive association between PPI treatment duration and SIBO prevalence with the regression coefficient 4.265% (95% CI: 1.827–6.384; p = 0.0024), indicating that each additional month of PPI therapy was associated with a 4.265 percentage increase in SIBO risk. Conclusions: PPI use significantly increases the risk of SIBO, with longer treatment durations associated with higher odds. Full article

The global biobased plastics market is on an upward trajectory due to the quest for a clean/sustainable environment and the growing concerns over climate change. This study used a meta-analysis approach to investigate the global trend in the research evolution and development of bio-based plastics research from 1990 to 2023. The publication records of 2742 articles were retrieved from the Web of Science data collection using the following key terms: “bioplastic* or biodegradable plastic* or biobased plastic* or biodegradable polyester* or biobased polyester* or biodegradable polyethylene* or biobased polyethylene*”. The analysis showed that scientific productivity generally increased across the spectrum of the survey timelines, with the highest publication of 331 articles recorded in 2023. The articles were published in 863 sources by 10,408 authors, with an annual growth rate of 13.55%. China demonstrated the highest number of publications recorded, with 404 articles within the survey period, followed by the United States, with 303 articles. The international collaboration was recorded at 20.86%, while the average citation per article was 27.99. The swift advancement in biodegradable plastic research, as indicated by relevant metrics, highlights the current research trends and underscores the importance of bio-based plastics in promoting a sustainable environment and a circular economy. In recent years, Europe has faced several major blackouts, exposing weaknesses in its energy infrastructure and raising serious concerns about the continent’s ability to manage such crises. As the shift toward sustainable energy accelerates, solar power has emerged as a critical component of this transition, not only for its environmental benefits but also because it is currently the most cost-effective method of electricity generation. Over the past two decades, the photovoltaic (PV) sector has experienced continuous growth to meet rising energy demands. Published scientific studies on the technology and implementation of photovoltaic panels mainly focus on the benefits and present case studies of success. The article aims to outline the current state of research on the danger of spontaneous ignition of photovoltaic panels. The analysis revealed the most common causes of PV self-ignition. Moreover, following consultations with experts in the field of photovoltaic panel installations, a scientific gap in this area was identified—to the authors’ knowledge, no one has written on this topic so far—the use of flammable materials in the form of hermetically sealed quick connectors. The research is based on a literature review, employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method to perform a bibliometric analysis of papers published between 2013 and 2024. The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and the ScienceDirect database are used for this purpose. A total of 62 papers are selected for analysis and categorized based on five fields: keywords in a title and abstract, total number of citations per paper, total number of publications per journal, total number of publications per affiliation, and funding name. Computational fluid dynamics became an essential tool for analyzing complex fluid behavior, with applications ranging from aerospace engineering to renewable energy systems. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence further enhanced computational fluid dynamics capabilities, improving computational efficiency and predictive accuracy. However, despite its widespread adoption, the integration of artificial intelligence in computational fluid dynamics for thermal energy storage remained an underexplored research area. This study presented a bibliometric analysis of the existing literature on artificial intelligence applications in computational fluid dynamics, with a specific focus on thermal energy storage systems. By comparing two research domains—artificial intelligence in computational fluid dynamics and artificial intelligence in computational fluid dynamics applied to thermal energy storage—this paper identified a significant gap in the latter, as reflected in the low number of publications, limited collaboration networks, and weak citation relationships. While artificial intelligence-driven computational fluid dynamics research expanded across multiple disciplines, its application in thermal energy storage is still in its early stages, highlighting the need for further investigations. The results indicated a growing interest in artificial intelligence-enhanced computational fluid dynamics models for thermal energy storage optimization, particularly in areas such as heat transfer, phase change materials, and system efficiency improvements. The results also included an analysis of leading contributors to this field, along with emerging countries’ contributions. A study of the key publication sources with a high impact in this domain was also included. Full article

A Two-Stage Model for Factors Influencing Citation Counts

This work aims to use a suitable regression model to study a count response random variable, namely, the number of citations of a research paper, that is affected by some explanatory variables. The count variable exhibits substantial variation, as the sample variance is larger than the sample mean; thus, the classical Poisson regression model seems not to be appropriate. We concentrate our attention on the negative binomial regression model, which allows the variance of each measurement to be a function of its predicted value. Nevertheless, the process of citations of papers may be divided into two parts. In the first stage, the paper has no citations, while the second part provides the intensity of the citations. A hurdle model for separating documents with citations and those without citations is considered. The dataset for empirical application consisted of 43,190 research papers in the Economics and Business field from 2014–2021, which were obtained from The Lens database. Citation counts and social attention scores for each article were gathered from the Altmetric database. The main findings indicate that both collaboration and funding have positive impacts on citation counts and reduce the likelihood of receiving zero citations. Open access (OA) via repositories (green OA) correlates with higher citation counts and a lower probability of zero citations. In contrast, OA via the publisher’s website without an explicit open license (bronze OA) is associated with higher citation counts but also with a higher probability of zero citations. In addition, open access in subscription-based journals (hybrid OA) increases citation counts, although the effect is modest. There are clear disciplinary differences, with the prestige of the journal playing a significant role in citation counts. Articles with lower expert ratings tend to be cited less frequently and are more likely to be cited zero times. Meanwhile, news and blog mentions boost citations and reduce the likelihood of receiving no citations, while policy mentions also enhance citation counts and significantly lower the risk of being cited zero times. In contrast, patent mentions have a negative impact on citations. The influence of social media varies: X/Twitter and Wikipedia mentions increase citations and reduce the likelihood of being uncited, whereas Facebook and video mentions negatively impact citation counts. Assessing International Technological Competitiveness in Renewable Energy: An IPC-Based Analysis of Granted Patents

With climate change mitigation and carbon emission reduction as global priorities, the expansion of renewable energy has become a core strategy globally. The purpose of this study is to identify trends in key renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and water technologies, and to compare and evaluate their competitiveness across leading nations. To this end, we performed trend analyses and both patent and technology portfolio assessments employing indicators such as the number of patents granted, claim count ratio, citation ratio, and patent family ratio on 194,485 granted patents collected from 1975 to 2024, according to International Patent Classification (IPC) codes, for the five major energy powers—the United States, European Union, Japan, China, and Korea. Trend analysis revealed a sharp increase in energy-related patents from 2010, with solar technologies accounting for over 60 percent of the total. Patent portfolio results positioned the United States as the Technology Leader, leading in both activity and quality; China stood out for its quantitative expansion and Europe for its qualitative strengths. Technology portfolio findings show that, although core technologies are shared globally, application-level technologies vary by country, reflecting each nation’s industrial base, policy orientation, and technological maturity. This study delineates priority technology domains, identifies optimal R&D collaboration pathways, and recommends policy levers that accelerate commercialization—enabling policymakers and industry stakeholders to allocate resources strategically and construct balanced technology portfolios aligned with global initiatives such as carbon-neutrality targets and the RE100 commitment. The Three-North Shelter Forest Program (TNSFP) is a large-scale ecological restoration project that has attracted worldwide attention. It covers 4.069 million km2 across 13 provinces in northern China, including northwestern, north-central, and northeastern regions. Bibliometric analysis provides a structural overview of the research in this field and offers insights into key research fronts. We conducted a literature review of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from 1990 to 2024 using HistCite for a comprehensive literature analysis and CiteSpace for visualizing research trends and co-citation networks. Based on the literature data from the WoSCC, we performed a bibliometric visualization review of the TNSFP. We observe a rising trend in research on the TNSFP, with the number of publications steadily increasing, especially after 2011. Remote Sensing emerged as the leading journal during the study period, accounting for 8.84% of the total publications. China is the leading contributor to research in this field, comprising 99.32% of the publications, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) being the primary research institution, accounting for 36.05%. Research on the TNSFP is interdisciplinary, with Environmental Sciences serving as its primary focus. Ecological restoration and climate change are likely to be the main trends in future research. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the TNSFP’s research landscape, offering insights that can inform policy decisions, guide future research directions, and support on-the-ground conservation and afforestation strategies. Objectives: This study utilized bibliometric and visualization analyses to explore global research trends and identify research hotspots in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for circulatory support to provide references and guidance for future research. Methods: This study was based on data from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering the period from 1945 to 1 August 2024. Bibliometric tools, such as VOSviewer and CiteSpace, were used to visualize the analysis of countries/regions, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords in the relevant literature. Results: A total of 14,804 valid papers were included in the study. The research interest in ECMO support for circulatory failure has increased annually, with the United States being the most active in this field. The U.S. occupies most of the top journals and institutions, leading in both the volume of publications and the intensity of international collaboration. Although China has a relatively high number of publications, it lags significantly in international collaboration and representation in top journals. Keyword and citation burst analysis indicates that research on cardiac arrest, post-cardiac surgery circulatory failure, left ventricular unloading, and prognostic factors have been the focus of recent studies and are prevalent in highly impactful literature. Conclusion: The research interest in ECMO support for circulatory failure continues to rise, particularly in cardiac arrest, post-cardiac surgery circulatory failure, left ventricular unloading, and prognostic factors. Future research should investigate these key areas and optimize techniques to enhance the clinical outcomes. Full article

An Assessment of Real-World Evidence and Other Sources Supporting Payer Coverage Decisions for Pharmacogenomic Testing in Psychiatry

Background: Sources and evidence cited to inform payer coverage decisions on pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing in psychiatry are presently underexplored. Methods: We conducted a qualitative and quantitative assessment of publicly available coverage policies from 14 US payers, examining the number and both the type and source of citations across policies and coverage decisions. Payers were classified as for-profit or mutual fund versus non-profit or government, and their coverage decisions were categorized as either coverage (limited or specified) or no coverage. Results: Among 32 unique sources cited, peer-reviewed literature as a single source was most frequently cited across all policies. Of 207 peer-reviewed papers cited across all policies, 40% (n = 83) were psychiatry-specific real-world evidence (RWE) studies. No statistically significant relationships were observed when comparing variance in the number of citations per policy by payer type (p = 0.22) or coverage decision (p = 0.75; unadjusted variance of 61.25 and an adjusted variance of 60.98 for both comparisons). For-profit or mutual fund payers and/or payers providing no coverage cited systematic reviews and non-randomized controlled cohort RWE studies most often. Non-profit or government payers and/or payers providing coverage cited case series or case-control RWE studies most often. Six psychiatry-specific RWE studies and contributions from 13 distinct sources were often cited, regardless of payer type or coverage decision. Conclusions: RWE, among several sources, are cited in many forms and to varying degrees among payers providing coverage decisions for PGx testing in psychiatry, with coverage determinations being largely based on how certain payers interpret evidence on the clinical value of testing.
