Background/Objectives: Additive manufacturing (AM) technology has emerged as an innovative approach in dentistry. Recently, manufacturers have developed permanent resins engineered explicitly for the fabrication of definitive prostheses using AM techniques. This systematic review evaluated the mechanical and physical properties of 3D-printed permanent resins in comparison to milled resins and hybrid ceramics for the fabrication of indirect dental restorations. Methods: Three electronic databases—Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed—were searched for English-language articles. Two independent researchers conducted study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and the evaluation of the certainty of evidence. In vitro studies assessing the mechanical and physical properties of the permanent resins were included in this review. Results: A total of 1779 articles were identified through electronic databases. Following full-text screening and eligibility assessment, 13 studies published between 2023 and 2024 were included in this qualitative review. The investigated outcomes included physical properties (surface roughness, color changes, water sorption/solubility) and mechanical properties (flexural strength, elastic modulus, microhardness). Conclusions: Three-dimensionally printed permanent resins show promising potential for fabricating indirect dental restorations. However, the current evidence regarding their mechanical and physical properties remain limited and inconsistent, mainly due to variability in study methodologies. Full article

Systematic reviews are a cornerstone of evidence-based research, providing comprehensive summaries of existing studies to answer specific research questions. This article offers a detailed guide to conducting high-quality systematic reviews in biology, health and social sciences. It outlines key steps, including developing and registering a protocol, designing comprehensive search strategies, and selecting studies through a screening process. The article emphasizes the importance of accurate data extraction and the use of validated tools to assess the risk of bias across different study designs. Both meta-analysis (quantitative approach) and narrative synthesis (qualitative approach) are discussed in detail. The guide also highlights the use of frameworks, such as GRADE, to assess the certainty of evidence and provides recommendations for clear and transparent reporting in line with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. This paper aims to adapt and translate evidence-based review principles, commonly applied in clinical research, into the context of biological sciences. By highlighting domain-specific methodologies, challenges, and resources, we provide tailored guidance for researchers in ecology, molecular biology, evolutionary biology, and related fields in order to conduct transparent and reproducible evidence syntheses. Background/Objectives: Solanezumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to bind soluble amyloid-beta (Aβ) and facilitate its clearance from the brain, aiming to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Methods: A systematic search was applied in four medical databases through October 2024 to identify phase 2 or 3 randomized controlled trials evaluating solanezumab in patients aged ≥50 years with mild AD or in preclinical stages. The primary outcomes were changes in cognitive and functional scales, including ADAS-cog14, MMSE, ADCS-ADL, and CDR-SB. Data were pooled using a random-effects model, and certainty of evidence was assessed using GRADE. Results: Seven trials involving 4181 participants were included. Solanezumab did not significantly reduce cognitive decline based on ADAS-cog14 (MD = −0.75; 95% CI: −2.65 to 1.15; very low certainty) or improve functional scores on ADCS-ADL (MD = 0.85; 95% CI: −1.86 to 3.56; very low certainty) and CDR-SB (MD = −0.15; 95% CI: −0.89 to 0.60; very low certainty). A modest but statistically significant improvement was observed in MMSE scores (MD = 0.59; 95% CI: 0.33 to 0.86; moderate certainty). Conclusions: While solanezumab may offer slight benefits in general cognitive performance, its overall impact on clinically meaningful outcomes remains limited. The results do not support its use as a disease-modifying therapy for Alzheimer’s disease in either preclinical or symptomatic stages. Full article

This paper presents the implementation of a language model–based strategy for the automatic codification of crime narratives for the production of official statistics. To address the high workload and inconsistencies associated with manual coding, we developed and evaluated three models: an XGBoost classifier with bag-of-words features and word embeddings features, an LSTM network using pretrained Spanish word embeddings as a language model, and a fine-tuned BERT language model (BETO). Deep learning models outperformed the traditional baseline, with BETO achieving the highest accuracy. The new ENUSC (Encuesta Nacional Urbana de Seguridad Ciudadana) workflow integrates the selected model into an API for automated classification, incorporating a certainty threshold to distinguish between cases suitable for automation and those requiring expert review. This hybrid strategy led to a 68.4% reduction in manual review workload while preserving high-quality standards. This study represents the first documented application of deep learning for the automated classification of victimization narratives in official statistics, demonstrating its feasibility and impact in a real-world production environment. Our results demonstrate that deep learning can significantly improve the efficiency and consistency of crime statistics coding, offering a scalable solution for other national statistical offices. Background: Immunization is a highly effective intervention for controlling over 20 life-threatening infectious diseases, significantly reducing both morbidity and mortality rates. One notable achievement in vaccination efforts was the global eradication of smallpox, which the World Health Assembly declared on 8 May 1980. Additionally, there has been a remarkable 99.9% reduction in wild poliovirus cases since 1988, decreasing from more than 350,000 cases that year to just 30 cases in 2022. Objectives: The objective of this review was to assess the effects of various interventions designed to increase vaccination uptake among adults. Search Methods: A thorough search was conducted in the CENTRAL, Embase Ovid, Medline Ovid, PubMed, Web of Science, and Global Index Medicus databases for primary studies. This search was conducted in August 2021 and updated in November 2024. Selection Criteria: Randomized trials were eligible for inclusion in this review, regardless of publication status or language. Data Analysis: Two authors independently screened the search outputs to select potentially eligible studies. Risk ratios (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated for each randomized controlled trial (RCT). A meta-analysis was conducted using a random-effects model, and the quality of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach. Main Results: A total of 35 randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review, with the majority conducted in the United States. The interventions targeted adults aged 18 and older who were eligible for vaccination, involving a total of 403,709 participants. The overall pooled results for interventions aimed at increasing influenza vaccination showed a risk ratio of 1.41 (95% CI: 1.15, 1.73). Most studies focused on influenza vaccination (18 studies), while the remaining studies examined various other vaccines, including those for hepatitis A, COVID-19, hepatitis B, pneumococcal disease, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap), herpes zoster, and human papillomavirus (HPV). The results indicate that letter reminders were slightly effective in increasing influenza vaccination uptake compared to the control group (RR: 1.75, 95% CI: 0.97, 1.16; 6 studies; 161,495 participants; low-certainty evidence). Additionally, participants who received education interventions showed increased levels of influenza vaccination uptake compared to those in the control group (RR: 1.88, 95% CI: 0.61, 5.76; 3 studies; 1318 participants; low-certainty evidence). Furthermore, tracking and outreach interventions also led to an increase in influenza vaccination uptake (RR: 1.87, 95% CI: 0.78, 4.46; 2 studies; 33,752 participants; low-certainty evidence). Conclusions: Letter reminders and educational interventions targeted at recipients are effective in increasing vaccination uptake compared to control groups. Full article

Current research reported that the number of clinical studies found for botulinum toxin (BoNT) key effects on biochemical biomarkers in head and neck chronic conditions linked to inflammation was very low. There are no systematic reviews of animal studies on this topic, and hence our review aimed to evaluate the quality of the preclinical evidence. We searched PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, and registries up to 29 January 2024. There were 22 eligible records, and data were available for 11 randomised controlled trials. There were concerns about the risk of bias and great variations of data obtained regarding chronic conditions, which included mostly trigeminal neuralgia. The leading biomarkers were proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α) and synaptosomal-associated protein-25 (SNAP25), followed by neuron activation marker c-Fos and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Overall, data found that BoNT significantly altered the under/over-expression of biomarkers evoked by the investigated disease models and had no effect when the levels of these biomarkers were not changed by the induced chronic conditions in animals. However, there were some mixed results and exceptions, and the certainty evidence found was very low to low. Although the sample sizes detected significant effect size (p < 0.05), most studies are based on male inferior animals, which may limit the recommendations for clinical trials. Helium (He) accumulation in tungsten—widely used as a plasma-facing material in fusion reactors—can lead to clustering, trap mutation, and eventual formation of helium bubbles, critically impacting material performance. To clarify the atomic-scale mechanisms governing this process, we conducted systematic molecular statics and molecular dynamics simulations across a wide range of vacancy cluster sizes (n = 1–27) and temperatures (500–2000 K). We identified the onset of trap mutation through abrupt increases in tungsten atomic displacement. At 0 K, the critical helium-to-vacancy (He/V) ratio required to trigger mutation was found to scale inversely with cluster size, converging to ~5.6 for large clusters. At elevated temperatures, thermal activation lowered the mutation threshold and introduced a distinct He/V stability window. Below this window, clusters tend to dissociate; above it, trap mutation occurs with near certainty. This critical He/V ratio exhibits a linear dependence on temperature and can be described by a size- and temperature-dependent empirical relation. Our results provide a quantitative framework for predicting trap mutation behavior in tungsten, offering key input for multiscale models and informing the design of radiation-resistant materials for fusion applications. Background: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the dentoalveolar changes of miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) compared with conventional rapid palatal expansion (CRPE) in growing patients (≤16 years). Methods: A systematic and comprehensive literature search was carried out independently by two reviewers using both MeSH terms and free-text keywords across PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase, with studies published through February 2025 included. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane ROB 2.0 tool. The GRADE system was employed to determine evidence quality. Results: Of the 462 initially screened articles, 6 met the inclusion criteria and were selected for quantitative synthesis. Most studies had a low risk of bias with some concerns in reporting. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) for tooth inclination changes in CRPE compared with MARPE was 0.98 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.54 to 1.42; p < 0.01). The test for overall effect was significant (p < 0.01), but no significant differences were found between the subgroups. The pooled SMD for buccal bone thickness changes in CRPE compared with MARPE was 0.69 (95% CI, 0.37 to 1.00; p < 0.01). The test for overall effect was significant (p < 0.01), and there were substantial differences between the subgroups. The supporting evidence ranged in certainty from moderate to low. Conclusions: MARPE was more effective than CRPE in minimizing the buccal tipping and buccal bone loss of the maxillary first premolars and first molars. However, to further confirm these outcomes and guide evidence-based clinical practice, well-designed randomized controlled trials with long-term follow-up are necessary. Full article

Background/Objectives: This study shows a lightweight hybrid framework based on a feedforward neural network using a single frontopolar electroencephalography channel, which is a practical configuration for wearable systems combining memory and a sleep stage transition probability matrix. Methods: Motivated by autocorrelation analysis, revealing strong temporal dependencies across sleep stages, we incorporate prior epoch information as additional features. To capture temporal context without requiring long input sequences, we introduce a transition-aware feature derived from the softmax output of the previous epoch, weighted by a learned stage transition matrix. The model combines predictions from memory-based and no-memory networks using a confidence-driven fallback strategy. Results: The proposed model achieves up to 85.4% accuracy and 0.79 Cohen’s kappa, despite using only a single 30 s epoch per prediction. Compared to other models that use a single frontopolar channel, our method outperforms convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and decision tree approaches. Additionally, confidence-based rejection of low-certainty predictions enhances reliability, since most of the epochs with low confidence in the sleep stage classification contain transitions between sleep stages. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that the proposed method balances performance, interpretability, and computational efficiency, making it well-suited for real-time clinical and wearable sleep staging applications using battery-powered computing devices. The European plum (Prunus domestica L.) is a hexaploid species that is grown worldwide for its tasty fruits. Many pomological forms and varieties exist, and thus it is important for genebank curators, breeders, growers, and/or control authorities to distinguish them with certainty. The purpose of this study was to select and verify a set of simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for reliable genotyping, and to optimize their use in a one-reaction format for easy routine practice. After testing 78 SSR markers from different diploid Prunus species, 8 SSR markers were selected, multiplexed, and successfully verified as being able to distinguish all 242 unique genotypes tested. The selected markers were relatively easily scored and highly heterogenic, giving more than 35 alleles/genotype on average. The allele atlas was created to become a valuable tool for allele calling that should lead to standardized and reliable genotyping results between laboratories. The population analysis confirmed high diversity of the Czech germplasm collection used. The kit was also successfully tested for diploid “plums” of various origins and interspecies hybrids, as these are sometimes phenotypically indistinguishable from hexaploid European plums. The one-tube approach substantially simplified the plum genotyping laboratory workflow, minimizes errors, and saves labor, time, and money. Full article

Comparative Effectiveness of Exercise, Protein Supplementation, and Combined Interventions for Sarcopenia Management in Women: A Network Meta-Analysis

Background/Objectives: The comparative efficacy and optimal combination strategies of exercise intervention, nutritional supplementation, and their integration for older women with sarcopenia remain inadequately supported by high-quality evidence. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) until February 2025. A frequentist random-effects network meta-analysis was conducted to compare the relative effects of different interventions. The quality of evidence was assessed using the GRADE framework, and interventions were ranked based on relative efficacy and evidence certainty. Results: A total of 21 randomized controlled trials involving 1215 participants were included. The network meta-analysis showed that combined exercise and nutritional interventions were the most effective in improving handgrip strength (MD = 1.95, 95% CI: 0.1 to 3.18; SUCRA = 74%), usual gait speed (MD = 0.11, 95% CI: 0.04 to 0.17; SUCRA = 94.49%), maximum gait speed (MD = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.38; SUCRA = 82.17%), and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (MD = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.38; SUCRA = 92.83%). Exercise alone significantly improved knee extension strength (SMD = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.41 to 1.08; SUCRA = 84.58%). However, nutritional supplementation alone did not significantly improve any outcome. No intervention demonstrated a significant effect on skeletal muscle mass index. Conclusion: Exercise interventions effectively enhance muscle mass, strength, and physical function in older women with sarcopenia. Combined exercise and nutritional supplementation may offer superior benefits compared with exercise alone. Full article

This update is aimed at various specialists who deal with fractures, such as emergency physicians, general practitioners, orthopedists, and sports medicine physicians. The Global Burden of Disease 2019 Fracture Collaborators estimated the worldwide incidence to be at 178 million, i.e., 2.2 fractures per 1000 people per year. Traditionally, X-rays are the first choice for suspected fractures. However, many fractures can also be detected or excluded with ultrasound. This option is especially attractive when available at the “point of care,”, i.e., at the patient’s bedside in the ambulatory or emergency setting. Point-of-care ultrasound provides clinicians with a simple, cost-effective imaging tool without radiation and complex infrastructure. The evidence suggests that ultrasound has high diagnostic sensitivity and can reliably rule out many fractures with a high degree of certainty. When applied correctly, it could potentially save millions of radiographs and, in some cases, even compete with the accuracy of X-rays and CT scans. These findings suggest a potential paradigm shift. This update discusses the advantages of ultrasound, its examination technique, sonoanatomy of fractures, and relevant indication groups, including its application for analgesia through nerve, fascia, and fascial plane blocks. Rat hepatitis E virus (rat HEV) is an emerging zoonotic virus detected in rodents worldwide, with increasing evidence of presence in environmental sources such as surface water, wastewater and bivalves. This systematic review compiles and analyzes all the published research on rat HEV contamination in these matrices, as well as its implications for human health. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Mendeley, including studies published up until 27 May 2025. Studies were included if they evaluated rat HEV in water- or food-related matrices using molecular detection. The risk of bias was not assessed. The certainty of evidence was not formally evaluated. Limitations include reliance on PCR methods without infectivity confirmation. Following PRISMA inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight eligible studies were analyzed. The results show high detection rates of rat HEV RNA in influent wastewater samples from several high-income European countries, namely Sweden, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Lower detection rates were found in effluent wastewater and surface waters in Sweden. In bivalve mollusks sampled in Brazil, rat HEV RNA was detected in 2.2% of samples. These findings show the widespread environmental presence of rat HEV, particularly in urban wastewater systems. While human infections by rat HEV have been documented, the true extent of rat HEV zoonotic potential remains unclear. Given the risks associated with this environmental rat HEV contamination, enhanced surveillance, standardized detection methods, and targeted monitoring programs in food production and water management systems are essential to mitigate potential public health threats. Establishing such programs will be crucial for understanding the impact of rat HEV on human health. Full article

Background: Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological malignancy, increasingly affecting premenopausal women. While hysterectomy is the standard treatment, it eliminates reproductive potential, highlighting the need for effective fertility-sparing alternatives. Current ESHRE/ESGO/ESGE guidelines recommend progestin-based therapies, often with hysteroscopic resection. However, these are based on limited pharmacological options and moderate to low-quality evidence. Novel and combination therapies have shown promise but remain absent from current clinical guidelines. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fertility-preserving treatments for early-stage EC, emphasizing the need to update current strategies based on emerging data. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis will follow PRISMA guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook. Eligible studies, including randomized and non-randomized designs, will assess fertility-preserving treatments for early-stage EC. Data will be extracted on complete response, recurrence, and long-term fertility outcomes. The GRADE system will assess evidence certainty. Risk of bias will be evaluated using RoB 2 for RCTs and ROBINS-I for non-randomized studies. Meta-analysis will be performed if sufficient data are available. Conclusions: This review will provide a comprehensive analysis of fertility-sparing treatments for early-stage EC, support personalized strategies, identify evidence gaps, and guide future research. We investigate a class of quadratic backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with generators that are singular in y. First, we establish the existence of solutions and a comparison theorem, thereby extending the existing results in the literature. Furthermore, we analyze the stability properties, derive the Feynman–Kac formula, and prove the uniqueness of viscosity solutions for the corresponding singular semi-linear partial differential equations (PDEs). Finally, we demonstrate applications in the context of robust control linked to stochastic differential utility and the certainty equivalent based on g-expectation. In these applications, the quadratic coefficients in the generators, respectively, quantify ambiguity aversion and absolute risk aversion. Full article
