Coupled grey and green infrastructure (CGGI) offers a promising pathway toward sustainable stormwater management in historic urban environments. This study compares CGGI and conventional grey infrastructure (GREI)-only strategies across four degrees of layout centralization (0%, 33.3%, 66.7%, and 100%) in the Quanzhou West Street Historic Reserve, China. Using a multi-objective optimization framework integrating SWMM simulations, life-cycle cost (LCC) modeling, and resilience metrics, we found that the decentralized CGGI layouts reduced the total LCC by up to 29.6% and required 60.7% less green infrastructure (GI) area than centralized schemes. Under nine extreme rainfall scenarios, the GREI-only systems showed slightly higher technical resilience (Tech-R: max 99.6%) than CGGI (Tech-R: max 99.1%). However, the CGGI systems outperformed GREI in operational resilience (Oper-R), reducing overflow volume by up to 22.6% under 50% network failure. These findings demonstrate that decentralized CGGI provides a more resilient and cost-effective drainage solution, well-suited for heritage districts with spatial and cultural constraints. This study evaluates the competitiveness and sustainable development prospects of French-speaking African countries by constructing a comprehensive framework integrating the TOPSIS method and adaptive LASSO algorithm. Using multivariate data from sources such as the World Bank, 30 indicators covering core, basic, and auxiliary competitiveness were selected to quantitatively analyze the competitiveness of 26 French-speaking African countries. Results show that their comprehensive competitiveness exhibits spatial patterns of “high in the north and south, low in the east and west” and “high in coastal areas, low in inland areas”. Algeria, Morocco, and six other countries demonstrate high competitiveness, while Central African countries generally show low competitiveness. The adaptive LASSO algorithm identifies three key influencing factors, including the proportion of R&D expenditure to GDP, high-tech exports, and total reserves, as well as five secondary key factors, including the number of patent applications and total number of domestic listed companies, revealing that scientific and technological investment, financial strength, and innovation transformation capabilities are core constraints. Based on these findings, sustainable development strategies are proposed, such as strengthening scientific and technological research and development and innovation transformation, optimizing financial reserves and capital markets, and promoting China–Africa collaborative cooperation, providing decision-making references for competitiveness improvement and regional cooperation of French-speaking African countries under the background of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an increasingly recognized, non-atherosclerotic cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), particularly in younger women. This comprehensive review outlines SCAD’s unique pathophysiology, which is linked to underlying arteriopathies like fibromuscular dysplasia, and highlights the critical role of advanced intravascular imaging for accurate diagnosis. A fundamental shift in management is detailed, with evidence favoring a conservative strategy for stable patients due to high rates of spontaneous vessel healing, reserving technically challenging invasive interventions for high-risk cases. Importantly, this review also addresses long-term outcomes, noting significant rates of recurrence and Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE), a high prevalence of persistent chest pain, and the central role of beta-blocker therapy in secondary prevention. Ultimately, SCAD requires a departure from standard ACS protocols towards a personalized approach that emphasizes accurate diagnosis, cautious initial management, and vigilant long-term follow-up. Economically, all countries seek sustained growth driven by domestic demand, investment, and exports; however, COVID-19 revealed the vulnerability of interconnected economic systems and a sharp contraction in global trade. The objective of this research is to analyze through an econometric model the effect of traditional exports on Peru’s economic growth during the 2012–2023 period. The study employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, longitudinal design, using quarterly data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru and the National Bureau of Statistics of China, which were transformed into natural logarithms. Unit root tests, the ordinary least squares (OLS) method and a two-stage least squares (2SLS) model were applied to correct for endogeneity. The results show that mining accounts for 81.7% of total traditional exports from Peru. The model indicated that a 1% increase in traditional exports leads to a 0.29% increase in GDP, confirming a positive impact. However, the high dependence of the mining sector exposes the economy to external risks. Therefore, a productive diversification strategy, alongside the modernization of the mining sector, is recommended to strengthen Peru’s economic resilience in the face of global crises and external fluctuations. The establishment and management of nature reserves play a crucial role in protecting biodiversity and supporting sustainable agriculture. This study focuses on 2538 nature reserves in 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions and 4 municipalities directly under the central government in mainland China. Integrating GIS spatial statistics, imbalance index, and geodetector models, we reveal critical insights: (1) Pronounced spatial inequity is observed, where a small number of eastern provinces dominate the total reserve count, highlighting significant regional disparities in ecological resource allocation. The sparse kernel density in western regions, indicating sparse reserve coverage. The Standard Deviation Ellipse highlights directional dispersion and human-ecological conflicts in high-density zones. (2) Key sustainability indicators driving reserve distribution include: total water resources, water resources per capita, forest area. (3) The spatial distribution of China’s nature reserves, along with factors such as altitude, river distribution, and transportation infrastructure, plays a crucial role in their development. This research provides theoretical support for the scientific planning and policy-making of nature reserves in China and offers practical guidance for optimizing and adjusting sustainable agricultural development. The study emphasizes the vital functions of nature reserves in maintaining ecosystem balance, enhancing regional climate resilience, and serving as biodiversity reservoirs. This research offers strategic insights for integrating nature reserve spatial planning with sustainable agricultural development policies, providing a scientific basis for optimizing the eco-agricultural interface in China. This study explores a strategic framework for the sustainable development of Northern and Central Euboea (Evia), Greece, through the preservation and promotion of cultural and environmental assets. This research aims to redirect tourism flows from overdeveloped coastal zones to underutilized inland areas by leveraging local heritage and natural resources. The methodology was developed within the context of the AEI research project and combines bibliographic research, stakeholder consultation, GIS analysis, and socioeconomic assessment. Based on this framework, a series of thematic cultural routes and agritourism initiatives were designed to enhance regional attractiveness and resilience. The study proposes the utilization of ICT tools such as GIS-based mapping, a digital development platform, and an online tourism portal to document, manage, and promote key assets. The socioeconomic impact of the proposed interventions was evaluated using an input–output model, revealing that each EUR 1 million invested in the region is expected to generate EUR 650,000 in local GDP and create 14 new jobs. The results underscore the potential of alternative tourism to stimulate inclusive and sustainable growth, particularly in post-disaster rural regions. This integrated approach can serve as a model for other territories facing similar environmental, economic, and demographic challenges. Full article

The efficient management of urban parking systems has emerged as a pivotal issue in today’s smart cities, where increasing vehicle populations strain limited parking infrastructure and challenge sustainable urban mobility. Aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the strategic goals of smart city planning, this study presents a sustainability-driven, multiagent simulation-based framework to model, analyze, and optimize smart parking dynamics in congested urban settings. The system architecture integrates ground-level IoT sensors installed in parking spaces, enabling real-time occupancy detection and communication with a centralized system using low-power wide-area communication protocols (LPWAN). This study introduces an intelligent parking guidance mechanism that dynamically directs drivers to the nearest available slots based on location, historical traffic flow, and predicted availability. To manage real-time data flow, the framework incorporates message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) protocols and edge processing units for low-latency updates. A predictive algorithm, combining spatial data, usage patterns, and time-series forecasting, supports decision-making for future slot allocation and dynamic pricing policies. Field simulations, calibrated with sensor data in a representative high-density urban district, assess system performance under peak and off-peak conditions. A comparative evaluation against traditional first-come-first-served and static parking systems highlights significant gains: average parking search time is reduced by 42%, vehicular congestion near parking zones declines by 35%, and emissions from circling vehicles drop by 27%. The system also improves user satisfaction by enabling mobile app-based reservation and payment options. These findings contribute to broader sustainability goals by supporting efficient land use, reducing environmental impacts, and enhancing urban livability—key dimensions emphasized in sustainable smart city strategies. The proposed framework offers a scalable, interdisciplinary solution for urban planners and policymakers striving to design inclusive, resilient, and environmentally responsible urban mobility systems. Understanding forest-cover change and its drivers is vital for global forest management and policy development. This study analyzed perceptions of historical drivers behind land-use/land-cover change (LULCC) and forest change in gazetted forests from 1966 to 2022 to evaluate the impact of human activities around the gazetted forest reserves, comparing three forests in Nasarawa State, North Central Nigeria. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. Three gazetted forests (Doma, Risha, and Odu) were sampled to represent the three geopolitical zones of the state. SPSS IBM version 29, NVivo 1.7, and Python 3 were used for data analyses to generate statistics and identify coherent themes across the forests. Results show that changes were perceived to be triggered by sixteen drivers (direct and indirect) related to social, economic, environmental, policy/institutional, and technological elements. Agricultural expansion, lumbering, and charcoal production were the most reported direct drivers, while population growth, poverty, and government policies were the most perceived indirect drivers. The results showed variations in human activities across forest sites. For example, agricultural expansion, lumbering, and grazing were more widespread, while construction and settlement activities differed between forests. The Risha forest community saw agriculture expansion ahead of other drivers, Doma forest people saw population growth above other drivers, and the Odu forest community saw lumbering aiding other drivers that led to change. Implementation of policies focusing on these key drivers must match local perceptions and priorities to engage people in forest conservation. These efforts could ensure effective forest protection that is vital for achieving global biodiversity and climate targets and safeguarding local livelihoods. The specific drivers of changes in each forest need to be targeted in conservation efforts. Full article

The ability of the agriculture sector, which is exposed to climate hazards, to cope with climate challenges and to strive in spite of them, is conceptualized as the resilience of agriculture. In enhancing climate-resilient agriculture, the cash reserve ratio (CRR) is generally perceived to serve two crucial functions: first, encouraging banks to allocate credit to agriculturalists for climate-resilient agricultural practices; second, enhancing agriculturalists’ ability to sustain agricultural output growth in spite of climate crises. In light of this, we conducted an ex post evaluation of the effect of the currently in-use CRR on bank loans to climate-challenged Nigeria’s agriculture sector for climate-resilient agricultural practices. Additionally, this study investigates the CRR’s impact(s) on agricultural output growth amidst climate challenges. Other additional independent variables include monetary policy rate, government capital expenditures on agriculture, and government recurrent expenditures on agriculture, as well as temperature, precipitation, and the renewable energy supply. Using annual data from 1990 to 2022, the results from an autoregressive, distributed lag approach suggest that the standard CRR stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria in the present era of climate change cannot entirely sustain climate-resilient agriculture, evident in the present study’s discoveries on its inability to perform its two major functions (credit and growth) in enhancing agricultural resilience. These findings highlight the need for the green differentiation of the CRR to ensure its effective utilization in enhancing climate resilience. Full article

Rural tourism plays a crucial role in promoting industrial revitalization in mountainous regions. Drawing inspiration from the site selection mechanisms of nature reserves, this study constructs a gap analysis framework tailored to rural tourism destinations, aiming to provide technical support for their spatial layout and systematic planning. By integrating a potential evaluation system based on tourism resources, market demand, and synergistic factors, the study identifies rural tourism priority zones and proposes a development typology and spatial optimization strategy across five provinces in Southwest China. The findings reveal: (1) First- and second-priority zones are primarily located in the core and periphery of provincial capitals and prefecture-level cities, while third-priority zones are concentrated in resource-rich areas of Yunnan and Guizhou and market-oriented areas of Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guangxi. (2) The Chengdu Plain emerges as the core region for rural tourism development, with hotspots clustered around Chengdu, northern and western Guizhou, central Chongqing, eastern Guangxi, and northwestern Yunnan, whereas cold spots are mainly situated in the western Sichuan Plateau and the Leshan–Liangshan–Zhaotong–Panzhihua–Chuxiong–Pu’er belt. (3) The alignment between tourism resources and rural tourism destinations is highest in Yunnan and Guizhou, while Chongqing exhibits the strongest match between destinations and tourism market potential and synergistic development conditions. Overall, 79.35% of rural tourism destinations in the region are situated within identified priority zones, with Chongqing, Guizhou, and Sichuan exhibiting the highest proportions. Based on the spatial mismatch between potential and existing destinations, the study delineates four development types—maintenance and enhancement, supplementation and upgrading, expansion, and reserve development—and offers regionally tailored planning recommendations. The proposed framework provides a replicable approach for spatial planning of rural tourism destinations in complex mountainous settings. Full article

The tasar silk production of India’s sericulture industry supports tribal livelihoods and economic sustainability. However, Antheraea mylitta Drury, 1773, the primary species for tasar silk, faces habitat threats due to deforestation, climate change, and anthropogenic pressures. This study evaluates the distribution and habitat suitability of wild tasar silkworm using multi-criteria approach, Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), and ecological niche modeling using the MaxEnt algorithm. Field surveys were conducted to collect cocoon samples, and the analysis of environmental parameters and assessment of soil micronutrient influences were also carried out. The MaxEnt model predictions indicate that the Central, Western, and Southern zones of Mayurbhanj, encompassing the Similipal Biosphere Reserve, provide the most suitable habitats. The jackknife test confirmed that these climatic variables collectively contributed 68.7% to the habitat suitability model. This study highlights the impact of habitat fragmentation and deforestation on tasar silkworm populations, emphasizing the need for conservation strategies, sustainable forest management, and afforestation programs. The findings highlight the following key conservation strategies: restoring habitats in Similipal, enforcing anti-deforestation laws, promoting community-led planting of host trees, and adopting climate-resilient silk farming to protect biodiversity and support tribal livelihoods. Embedded system networks are widely deployed across various domains and often perform mission-critical tasks, making it essential for all nodes within the system to be trustworthy. Traditionally, each node is equipped with a discrete Trusted Platform Module (dTPM) to ensure network-wide trustworthiness. However, this study proposes a cost-effective system architecture that deploys software-based TPMs (SWTPMs) on the majority of nodes, while reserving dTPMs for a few central nodes to maintain overall system integrity. The proposed architecture employs IBMACS for system integrity reporting. In addition, a database-based anomaly detection (AD) agent is developed to identify and isolate untrusted nodes. A traffic anomaly detection agent is also introduced to monitor communication between servers and clients, ensuring that traffic patterns remain normal. Finally, a custom measurement kernel is implemented, along with an activation agent, to enforce a measured boot process for custom applications during startup. This architecture is designed to safeguard mission-critical embedded systems from malicious threats while reducing deployment costs. Full article

Objective: Central neurocytomas (CNs), classified as CNS (central nervous system) grade 2 tumors, are exceptionally rare tumors, accounting for approximately 0.1–0.5% of all intracranial neoplasms, and are typically characterized by a benign clinical course and frequent association with hydrocephalus. This study aims to present a comprehensive analysis of surgical and adjuvant therapies for CN. Methods: The study comprised all patients who underwent microsurgical tumor removal in our center over the past decade (2013–2023). Clinical manifestations, surgical and adjuvant therapy approaches, MRI and histological findings, clinical outcomes, and recurrence-free survival were evaluated. Results: A total of eleven patients (six men, mean age of 28.0 years; five women, mean age of 53.6 years) underwent surgical treatment. Intraventricular tumors were the most common (72.7%, n = 8). The predominant presenting symptoms were headache and visual disturbances. All tumors exhibited contrast enhancement on MRI. Hydrocephalus was present in five patients. The Ki67 proliferation index ranged from 2% to 10%, with nine patients exhibiting Ki67 > 3%. The median recurrence-free survival was 38.0 months (IQR: 25.0–53.0). The most severe postoperative complications included aphasia, hemiparesis, and memory impairment, resulting in a postoperative Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) below 70% in five patients. Follow-up assessments showed significant symptomatic improvement in all affected patients. Conclusions: Gross total resection is the recommended first-line therapy with favorable neurological outcomes and for atypical CN as well. Adjuvant radiotherapy should be reserved for tumor progression and recurrence. The role of adjuvant chemotherapy remains unclear, but it may be an option for CN with a high proliferation index. This study explores how geographical factors shape El Salvador’s banking sector, particularly focusing on regional disparities, urbanization, and vulnerability to natural disasters affecting access to financial services. By employing a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative data and qualitative interviews, the research analyzes how these geographical challenges impact financial inclusion and banking development. Data from the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador and financial institutions is examined alongside Geographic Information Systems (GISs) to illustrate the spatial distribution of banking services. Interviews with stakeholders, including bank representatives and clients from urban and rural areas, reveal a significant urban–rural divide, with approximately 75% of bank branches and 80% of ATMs situated in urban centers, particularly in San Salvador. Rural areas face limited access to formal banking due to challenging topography and inadequate infrastructure, leading to increased financial exclusion and reliance on informal systems. Natural disasters further disrupt banking infrastructure and heighten the need for emergency loans. While urbanization has spurred financial growth, it has also resulted in informal settlements with restricted access to formal services. As its main contribution, this study provides one of the first in-depth, geographically grounded analyses of financial exclusion in El Salvador, offering original insights into how spatial inequalities and disaster vulnerability intersect to shape banking access and economic participation. The study calls for a more inclusive banking sector, recommending mobile and digital banking expansion, agent banking in underserved areas, and improved disaster risk management to enhance economic participation across all regions. Around the world, large-scale bifacial photovoltaics (BPV) modules are increasingly being used to generate clean electricity, given the cost of manufacturing is becoming comparable to conventional monofacial PV modules. BPV, when installed vertically, can still produce high levels of electricity by collecting radiation on the front as well as on the rear side. This paper assessed the renewable energy generation potential of vertical BPV plants along the central reservation of UK motorways. These installations maximize the utility of road space while minimizing land consumption. The feasibility of BPV systems for different segments of a motorway case study in the UK were modelled to calculate energy yield, the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), payback period, and net present value. The LCOE of a medium to large-scale system was 10–11 p/kWh, 60% less than that of a small-scale system. The payback period for medium to large-scale systems was found to be 6 years, whereas for small systems, it was 10 years. The paper further discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with installing BPV panels on motorways with guidance on the types of locations which are likely to be most successful for future full-scale installations.
