The remote sensing monitoring of land use changes and future scenario simulation hold crucial significance for accurately characterizing urban expansion patterns, optimizing urban land use configurations, and thereby promoting coordinated regional development. Through the integration of multi-source data, this study systematically analyzes the spatiotemporal trajectories and driving forces of land use changes in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration (PRD) from 1990 to 2020 and further simulates the spatial patterns of urban land use under diverse development scenarios from 2025 to 2035. The results indicate the following: (1) During 1990–2020, urban expansion in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration exhibited a “stepwise growth” pattern, with an annual expansion rate of 3.7%. Regional land use remained dominated by forest (accounting for over 50%), while construction land surged from 6.5% to 21.8% of total land cover. The gravity center trajectory shifted southeastward. Concurrently, cropland fragmentation has intensified, accompanied by deteriorating connectivity of ecological lands. (2) Urban expansion in the PRD arises from synergistic interactions between natural and socioeconomic drivers. The Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model revealed that natural constraints—elevation (regression coefficients ranging −0.35 to −0.05) and river network density (−0.47 to −0.15)—exhibited significant spatial heterogeneity. Socioeconomic drivers dominated by year-end paved road area (0.26–0.28) and foreign direct investment (0.03–0.11) emerged as core expansion catalysts. Geographic detector analysis demonstrated pronounced interaction effects: all factor pairs exhibited either two-factor enhancement or nonlinear enhancement effects, with interaction explanatory power surpassing individual factors. (3) Validation of the Patch-generating Land Use Simulation (PLUS) model showed high reliability (Kappa coefficient = 0.9205, overall accuracy = 95.9%). Under the Natural Development Scenario, construction land would exceed the ecological security baseline, causing 408.60 km2 of ecological space loss; Under the Ecological Protection Scenario, mandatory control boundaries could reduce cropland and forest loss by 3.04%, albeit with unused land development intensity rising to 24.09%; Under the Economic Development Scenario, cross-city contiguous development zones along the Pearl River Estuary would emerge, with land development intensity peaking in Guangzhou–Foshan and Shenzhen–Dongguan border areas. This study deciphers the spatiotemporal dynamics, driving mechanisms, and scenario outcomes of urban agglomeration expansion, providing critical insights for formulating regionally differentiated policies. For the correct execution of the preliminary design of a transport ship, among other things, approximate formulas enabling the calculation of the weight of the unladen ship and the location of the center of gravity are necessary. The aim of the conducted research was to develop approximate formulas for calculating the weight and center of gravity of an empty container ship with a size ranging from 270 TEU to 3100 TEU, depending on the basic design parameters: ship speed V, deadweight DWT, and number of TEU containers. Since the weight of an unladen container ship has a very large impact on the ship’s operating parameters, an additional aim was to obtain regression formulas with greater accuracy than similar formulas published in the literature. Simple and multiple regression methods were used to develop regression formulas. The obtained results were verified on the basis of experimentally measured parameters obtained from built ships. The regression formulas presented in this article are characterized by high accuracy, greater than that of similar formulas published in the literature, and were developed for container ships currently under construction. A novelty of this study is the development of regression formulas for weight classes, which make up the total weight of an unladen ship. Full article

This study examines the impact of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) coordinated development policy on the regional industrial network structure, with a focus on the significance of electricity consumption data in social network analysis (SNA). Utilizing a gravity model integrated with electricity consumption data, this research employs centrality analysis and Lambda analysis to compare changes in the steel industry network before and after policy implementation. The findings reveal that traditional models relying solely on indicators such as population and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fail to comprehensively capture regional economic linkages, whereas incorporating electricity consumption data enhances the model’s accuracy in identifying core nodes and latent connections. Post policy implementation, the centrality of Beijing and Tianjin increased significantly, reflecting their transition from production hubs to centers for research and development (R&D) and management, while Shijiazhuang’s pivotal role diminished. This study also uncovers a “core–periphery” structure in the BTH urban network, where core cities (Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang) dominate resource allocation and information flow, while peripheral cities exhibit uneven development. These results provide a scientific basis for optimizing regional coordinated development policies and underscore the critical role of electricity consumption data in refining regional economic analysis. Incorporating electricity consumption data into the gravity model significantly enhances its explanatory power by capturing hidden economic ties and improving policy evaluation, offering a more accurate and dynamic assessment of regional industrial linkages. High-quality growth of the construction industry and an improved human settlements environment are essential to sustainable urbanization. Existing studies have paid limited systematic attention to the spatial and temporal dynamics of the coordinated development between the construction industry and human settlements, as well as the underlying factors driving regional disparities. This gap restricts the formulation of precise, differentiated sustainable policies tailored to regions at different development stages and with varying resource endowments. Southern China, characterized by pronounced spatial heterogeneity and unique development trends, offers a natural laboratory for examining the spatio-temporal interaction between these two dimensions. Using panel data for 15 southern provinces (2013–2022), we applied the entropy method, coupling coordination model, Dagum Gini coefficient, spatial trend surface analysis, gravity model, and grey forecasting to evaluate current conditions and predict future trends. The main findings are as follows. (1) The coupling coordination degree rose steadily, forming a stepped spatial pattern from the southwest through the center to the southeast. (2) The coupling coordination degree appears obvious polarization effect, presenting a spatial linkage pattern with Jiangsu-Shanghai-Zhejiang, Hubei-Hunan-Jiangxi, and Sichuan-Chongqing as the core of the three major clusters. (3) The overall Dagum Gini coefficient declined, but intra-regional disparities persisted: values were highest in the southeast, moderate in the center, and lowest in the southwest; inter-regional differences dominated the total inequality. (4) Forecasts for 2023–2027 suggest further improvement in the coupling coordination degree, yet spatial divergence will widen, creating a configuration of “eastern leadership, central catch-up acceleration, and differentiated southwestern development.” This study provides an evidence base for policies that foster high-quality construction sector growth and enhance the living environment. The findings of this study indicate that policymaking should prioritize promoting synergistic regional development, enhancing the radiating and driving role of core regions, and establishing a multi-level coordinated governance mechanism to bridge regional disparities and foster more balanced and sustainable development. Coal gasification slag (CGS) is a solid byproduct generated during coal gasification. Stacking and land-filling of CGS wastes substantial land resources and has significant environmental risks. In this paper, based on the Ca/Si and Si/Al ratios of the raw materials, the mix design of alkali-activated CGS concrete was optimized using a pure center-of-gravity design method. The compressive and flexural strengths of geopolymer concrete with varying mix proportions were measured to investigate the effects of sodium silicate modulus, material content, and dry density on its mechanical properties. Specimens of different sizes were prepared to analyze the influence of testing methods on the compressive, flexural, and tensile properties. The results indicate that the mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete are significantly influenced by the raw material composition and the modulus of the activator. With increasing curing age, both compressive and flexural strengths exhibit varying degrees of improvement. The stress-strain behavior of alkali-activated CGS concrete aligns closely with that of ordinary concrete. A comparative analysis of 100 mm length and 20 mm length cubic specimens revealed a compressive strength size conversion coefficient of approximately 0.456, while the flexural specimen exhibited a coefficient of 0.599. For tensile strength evaluation, both the Brazilian splitting method and the double punch test method yielded consistent and reliable results, demonstrating their suitability for assessing CGS-based concrete. This study examined the relationship between spinal morphological changes and gait characteristics in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) using inertial measurement unit (IMU) analysis. Twenty-three female patients with AIS scheduled for corrective surgery underwent a preoperative gait analysis using an IMU positioned at the third lumbar vertebra. Gait stability indicators were calculated, including root mean square (RMS) values for mediolateral (RMSx), anteroposterior, and vertical components. Peak mediolateral components in four coronal plane quadrants were also analyzed. Relationships with the main thoracic (MT) curve, the thoracolumbar (TL) curve, and thoracic kyphosis (TK) were assessed using Spearman’s rank correlation. The MT curve is positively correlated with RMSx, whereas TK exhibited a negative correlation. Gait symmetry analysis revealed a positive correlation between the MT curve and peak mediolateral trunk acceleration in the second (left upper) quadrant, and negative correlations for TK in the first (right upper) and fourth (right lower) quadrants. Patients with AIS who have right-convex MT curves demonstrated leftward center-of-gravity shifts, although reduced TK limited this compensatory mechanism. These findings may inform the development of rehabilitation strategies for AIS. Full article

China’s National Famous, Special, Excellent, and New Agricultural Products are key rural economic assets, yet their spatial patterns and sustainability drivers remain underexplored. Based on the geospatial data of 1932 National Famous, Special, Excellent and New Agricultural Products in China, this study systematically analyzes their spatial distribution pattern by using GIS spatial analysis techniques, including the standard deviation ellipse, kernel density estimation, geographic concentration index and Lorenz curve, and quantitatively explores the driving factors of sustainable development by using geographic detectors. The research results of this paper are as follows. (1) The spatial distribution shows a significant non-equilibrium characteristic of “high-density concentration in the central and eastern part of the country and low-density sparseness in the western part of the country” and the geographic concentration index (G = 22.95) and the standard deviation ellipse indicate that the center of gravity of the distribution is located in the North China Plain (115° E–35° N), and the main direction extends along the longitude of 110° E–120° E. (2) Driving factor analysis showed that railroad mileage (X10) (q = 0.5028, p = 0.0025 < 0.01), highway mileage (X11) (q = 0.4633, p = 0.0158 < 0.05), and population size (X3) (q = 0.4469, p = 0.0202 < 0.05) are the core drivers. (3) Three-dimensional kernel density mapping reveals that the eastern coast and central plains (kernel density > 0.08) form high-density clusters due to the advantages of the transportation network and market, while the western part shows a gradient decline due to the limitation of topography and transportation conditions. The study suggests that the sustainable development of National Famous, Special, Excellent, and New Agricultural Products should be promoted by strengthening transportation and digital logistics systems, enhancing cold-chain distribution for perishable goods, tailoring regional branding strategies, and improving synergy among local governments, thereby providing actionable guidance for policymakers and producers to increase market competitiveness and income stability. The study provides a quantitative, policy-oriented assessment of China’s branded agricultural resource allocation and its sustainability drivers, offering specific recommendations to guide infrastructure investment, e-commerce logistics enhancement, and targeted subsidy design for balanced regional development. The study highlights three key contributions: (1) an innovative integration of geospatial analytics and geographical detectors to reveal spatial patterns; (2) clear empirical evidence for policymakers to prioritize transport and digital logistics investments; and (3) practical guidance for producers and brand managers to enhance product market reach, optimize supply chains, and strengthen regional competitiveness in line with sustainable development goals. This study investigated the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize the design and material selection for the construction of the telescopic arm of an elevating work platform (EWP) used in agricultural environments. By comparing the structural performance of four materials—Aluminum Alloy (EN-AW 1200), Aluminum Alloy (EN-AW 2014), High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) Steel Fe275JR, and HSLA Steel S700—under simulated operational conditions, this research identified the most suitable material for robust yet lightweight platforms. The results revealed that HSLA Steel S700 provides superior performance in terms of strength, low deformation, and high safety factors, making it ideal for scenarios requiring maximum durability and load-bearing capacity. Conversely, Aluminum Alloy (EN-AW 2014), while exhibiting lower strength compared with HSLA Steel S700, significantly reduces platform weight by approximately 60% and lowers the center of gravity, enhancing maneuverability and compatibility with smaller, less powerful tractors. These findings highlight the potential of FEA in optimizing EWP design by enabling precise adjustments to material selection and structural geometry. The outcomes of this research contribute to the development of safer, more efficient, and cost-effective EWPs, with a specific focus on improving productivity and safety in agricultural operations such as pruning and harvesting. Future work will explore advanced geometries and hybrid materials to further enhance the performance and versatility of these platforms. Full article

Based on a comprehensive evaluation index system for regional economic resilience and port logistics development, this study employs multiple methodologies including coupling coordination degree model, kernel density estimation, gravity center model, spatial autocorrelation model, and geographic detector model to explore the spatial–temporal evolution patterns and driving factors of coupling coordination between regional economic resilience and port logistics in the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone from 2012 to 2022. The results indicate that: (1) The coupling coordination degree between the two systems showed an upward trend during the study period, although with stage-specific bipolar differentiation that weakened in the later stages. (2) The spatial distribution pattern of coupling coordination evolved from a “single-core” driven by Nanning to a “dual-core” led by Nanning and Yulin, forming a distinct concentric layer structure; the gravity center of coupling coordination exhibited a “southeast–northwest” dynamic migration pattern. (3) Spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed significant positive spatial dependence of coupling coordination within the study area, with spatial agglomeration values showing a “core–transition–depression” differentiation pattern. (4) Information technology level emerged as the dominant driving factor, forming a “technology–finance–infrastructure” ternary collaborative driving model with financial development level and logistics infrastructure level, which became the main force promoting the coordinated development of the coupled systems. In this study, we improve the matching accuracy of underwater gravity-matching navigation and use this method to further analyze the confidence of the matching accuracy. An interquartile range (IQR)-matching approach based on Bayesian estimation, referred to as BEIQR, is proposed in this study. The method uses the correlation of the Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) algorithm as the a priori estimation and calculates the probability weights of the points to be matched by Bayesian a posteriori probability estimation. Additionally, it analyzes the distribution of the to-be-matched points to obtain the final matching results based on the accuracy requirements. Furthermore, a novel interquartile range confidence analysis method based on Bayesian estimation (BEIQRC) is proposed to assess the matching results. This method defines the matching point as the center and the accuracy requirement as the radius, analyzing the measurement weight and distance weight of the to-be-matched points within the accuracy circle. Based on this analysis, the final matching point is projected with the true position probability. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is independent of the preorder matching results. By utilizing data from a single matching process, it effectively obtains the confidence of the matching results, providing a reliable reference for the accuracy assessment of gravity-matching outcomes. The rational calculation of groundwater buoyancy directly impacts the safety of underground engineering. However, there is still no consensus on whether the reduction of groundwater buoyancy should be considered, and a theoretical explanation and quantification of buoyancy reduction in clayey soils is lacking. Based on laboratory engineering model tests, this study observed and analyzed the phenomenon of buoyancy reduction in saturated clayey soils. The contact area ratio of gravity water, calculated from geotechnical test data, was compared with the reduction slope. The experimental results indicated that the reduction slope of the fitted line between the static water head in the silty clay layer and the buoyancy water head was 0.8692. And theoretical analysis showed that the distribution of interparticle pore water pressure tends to attenuate from the pore center to the soil particle surface, suggesting a reduction in buoyancy head compared to the groundwater level. The reduction slope is theoretically equal to the contact area ratio of gravity water. Additionally, since limitations in current techniques for generalizing the soil–water constitutive models affect the reduction slope, this study proposes a method for determining the buoyancy reduction slope in saturated clayey soil based on the theory that interparticle pore water pressure distribution attenuates from the pore center to the soil particle surface. This method could potentially change the existing conceptual framework for buoyancy design in underground structures. Full article

The global tourism industry is currently experiencing a significant boom, leading to increasing prosperity in the tourism economy. However, litigation disputes and conflicts between tourism consumers and operators have become more frequent, severely disrupting the smooth functioning of tourism markets. Therefore, clarifying the spatiotemporal attributes and distributional characteristics of tourism disputes in destinations holds substantial significance for destination market governance and the sustainable development of tourism systems. Taking China’s Yangtze River Economic Belt as a case study, this research employs the geographic concentration index, the gravity center model, and the Dagum Gini coefficient to analyze the spatiotemporal patterns of different types of tourism disputes and their watershed-specific variations from 2013 to 2024. The results demonstrated that tourism disputes exhibited an increase–decrease–increase inter-annual trend. The downstream basin had the most disputes, followed by the upstream and midstream ones. Areas with a high and low incidence of disputes were interspersed, with low spatial agglomeration. The gravity center was in Hubei Province. Basin differences changed in a fluctuating manner. Basin differences were large at the beginning of the study period, and thereafter the basin differences decreased in a fluctuating manner. The inter-basin differences were more significant for travel agency disputes and catering disputes. Overall, this study effectively presented the temporal distribution characteristics, spatial evolution characteristics, and basin differences in tourism disputes using mathematical statistics, geospatial analysis, and other methods. The Huaihe River Basin stands as a vital grain-producing base in China. Predicting the dynamic evolution of its carbon storage (CS) is of great theoretical value and practical significance for maintaining regional ecological security, guaranteeing food production capacity, and coping with climate change. This study established a multi-dimensional analysis framework of “scenario simulation–reservoir assessment–value quantification”. Using a sample of 195 cities, the PLUS-InVEST-GIS method was combined to explore the overall CS, spatial differentiation, and value changes in future scenarios. The results indicate that the following: (1) From 2000 to 2020, CS kept on declining, with cultivated land and forest land being the dominant carbon pools, accounting for over 86% of the total CS. (2) From a “city–grid–raster” perspective, the spatial pattern of high-value hot spots of CS remained stable, and the overall pattern remained unchanged under multi-scenario simulation, yet the overall carbon sink center of gravity shifted to the southwest. (3) The top five driving factors are elevation, slope, NDVI, GDP per capita, and population density, accounting for 77.2% of the total driving force. (4) The carbon sequestration capacity at the county scale continued to weaken, and the overall capacity presented the following order: 2035 Farmland protection scenario (FPS) > 2035 Natural development scenario (NDS) > 2035 Urban development scenario (UDS). The resulting carbon economic losses were USD 2.28 × 108, 4.57 × 108, and 6.90 × 108, respectively. The research results will provide scientific land use decision-making support for the realization of the “double-carbon” goals in the Huaihe River grain-producing area. Full article

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact of Storm Laura, which was observed over Europe and the Baltic Sea on 12 March 2020, on the thermosphere–ionosphere system. The investigation of ionospheric disturbances caused by the meteorological storm was carried out using a combined modeling approach, incorporating the regional AtmoSym and the global GSM TIP models. This allowed for the consideration of acoustic and internal gravity waves (AWs and IGWs) generated by tropospheric convective sources and the investigation of wave-induced effects in both the neutral atmosphere and ionosphere. The simulation results show that, three hours after the activation of the additional heat source, an area of increased temperature exceeding 100 K above the background level formed over the meteorological storm region. This temperature change had a significant impact on the meridional component of the thermospheric wind and total electron content (TEC) variations. For example, meridional wind changes reached 80 m/s compared a the meteorologically quiet day, while TEC variations reached 1 TECu. Good agreement was obtained with experimental TEC maps from CODE (Center for Orbit Determination in Europe), MOSGIM (Moscow Global Ionospheric Map), and WD IZMIRAN (West Department of Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation Russian Academy of Sciences), which revealed a negative TEC value effect over the meteorological storm region. Analysis of Spatiotemporal Dynamics and Driving Mechanisms of Cultural Heritage Distribution Along the Jiangnan Canal, China

As a crucial component of the Beijing–Hangzhou Grand Canal’s hydraulic engineering, the Jiangnan Canal has historically played a pivotal role in China’s development as a key hydraulic infrastructure. This water conservancy project, connecting northern and southern water systems, not only facilitated regional economic integration but also nurtured unique cultural landscapes along its course. The Jiangnan Canal and its adjacent cities were selected as the study area to systematically investigate 334 tangible cultural heritage (TCH) sites and 420 intangible cultural heritage (ICH) elements. Through integrated Geographical Information System (GIS) spatial analyses—encompassing nearest neighbor index, kernel density estimation, standard deviation ellipse assessment, multi-ring buffer zoning, and Geodetector modeling, the spatiotemporal distribution features of cultural heritage were quantitatively characterized, with a focus on identifying the underlying driving factors shaping its spatial configuration. The analysis yields four main findings: (1) both TCH and ICH exhibit significant spatial clustering patterns across historical periods, with TCH distribution displaying an axis-core structure centered on the canal, whereas ICH evolved from dispersed to clustered configurations. (2) The center of gravity of TCH is primarily around Taihu Lake, while that of ICH is mainly on the south side of Taihu Lake, and the direction of distribution of both is consistent with the direction of the canal. (3) Multi-ring buffer analysis indicates that 77.2% of TCH and 49.8% of ICH clusters are concentrated within 0–10 km of the canal, demonstrating distinct spatial patterns: TCH exhibits a gradual canal-dependent density decrease with distance, whereas ICH reveals multifactorial spatial dynamics. (4) Human activity factors, particularly nighttime light intensity, are identified as predominant drivers of heritage distribution patterns, with natural environmental factors exerting comparatively weaker influence. These findings provide empirical support for developing differentiated conservation strategies for canal-related cultural heritage. The methodology offers replicable frameworks for analyzing heritage corridors in complex historical landscapes, contributing to both applied conservation practices and theoretical advancements in cultural geography.
