Smart cities leverage digital marketing to promote sustainability and build a distinctive global branding. Despite its growing significance, the role digital marketing in smart city development remains underexplored. This study aims to fill this gap by employing bibliometric analysis of 1908 articles indexed in the Scopus database (2000–2024), using the Bibliometrix R-Studio (version 1.4.1743) and VOSviewer (version 1.6.20). The analysis reveals two thematic clusters: (1) “Digital Innovation and Sustainability”, which emphasizes technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data for energy efficiency and green urban development; and (2) “Governance and Policy”, which highlights digital marketing’s role in enabling participatory governance, citizen engagement, and inclusive urban policies. Findings underscore that digital marketing is not only a strategic communication channel but also a driver of sustainable urban transformation. By synthesizing insights from urban planning, technology, and sustainability, this paper provides a novel perspective on the intersection of digital marketing and smart cities. The results provide valuable guidance for policymakers, city planners, and researchers to harness digital marketing in promoting sustainability and further develop the smart city concept. The aim of the study is to identify research on inclusive tourism and its links with related research directions. For this purpose, a review of the literature available in the Scopus database was carried out using the VOSviewer bibliometric tool. The analysis included titles and abstracts of a selected group of articles that were assessed directly by the researchers. This process enabled the identification and characterisation of thematic clusters reflecting the most frequently undertaken research issues, and also allowed for the indication of research gaps and changes occurring over time. The results of the analysis are presented in the form of graphs and tables. In the discussion and final conclusions, significant connections of inclusive tourism are indicated. Although inclusiveness is an important objective of sustainable development, these terms were clearly linked in scientific research only in 2002, and since 2020, there has been a noticeable increase in these connections. The vast majority of studies are focused on the needs of people with mobility disabilities and seniors, but it has been noted that research is beginning to increasingly pay attention to other groups of individuals with special needs as well as the inclusion of marginalised social groups in tourism planning. The global pursuit of sustainable development has intensified the need to integrate Circular Economy (CE), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Industry 4.0 (I4.0) as mutually reinforcing frameworks. This study explores the scientific evolution and interconnections among these pillars through a dual approach: (i) a scientometric analysis using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix in RStudio (2024.12.1+563), and (ii) a targeted mini-review of high-impact literature. A dataset of 478 Scopus-indexed articles (2016–2024) was analyzed, revealing CE and I4.0 as key technological and strategic enablers of the SDGs—particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Moreover, the results underscore an increasing role of enabling digital technologies—such as IoT, blockchain, and big data—in shaping sustainable production systems. An important insight from this work is the growing relevance of policy frameworks as catalysts for implementing CE and I4.0 strategies, especially within national and international sustainability agendas. However, the low citation frequency of “policy” as a keyword indicates a gap in the literature that merits further exploration. Future research is encouraged to conduct in-depth bibliometric studies focused on sustainability-related policies, including regulations that operationalize CE and I4.0 to support SDG achievement. This study contributes a comprehensive overview of emerging research trends, identifies strategic knowledge gaps, and highlights the need for cohesive governance mechanisms to accelerate the digital–ecological transition. Background: Perinatal depression refers to a major depressive episode that begins during pregnancy or within four weeks after childbirth and persists through the first year postpartum. Perinatal depression is one of the most common complications of pregnancy, with significant adverse maternal and infant outcomes. Numerous reviews and policy guidelines have emerged from Canada; however, a bibliometric analysis that focuses not only on the international sources for perinatal depression research, but also on Canadian sources, has not been undertaken. Purpose: To provide insight on perinatal depression publications conducted by researchers affiliated with Canadian institutions, within an international context. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was performed using performance analysis and science mapping techniques, with data retrieved from Scopus until 31 December 2022. The analysis focused on original peer-reviewed publications, applying no language restrictions and ensuring at least one author was affiliated with a Canadian institution. VOSviewer version 1.6.20 was used to generate visual networks for analysis. Results: In total, there were 763 publications identified in 160 different journals. Among these publications, there were 123 institutions represented. At least one author was associated with a Canadian institution per publication. The University of Toronto had the highest frequency of affiliations (n = 313). Most publications (79.55%) occurred between 2011 and 2022, with 2021 as the year with the most publications (n = 80). The journal with the most publications was Archives of Women’s Mental Health (n = 57, 35.65%). Canadian institution-affiliated authors with the largest number of publications were Dennis (n = 57), Oberlander (n = 39), Meaney (n = 38), and Letourneau (n = 37). Conclusion: This is the first study mapping publications on perinatal depression research within a Canadian context. This bibliometric analysis provides a valuable reference for future research by identifying key authors, institutions, journals, and research areas that prioritize perinatal mental health. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a widely applied multivariate statistical technique across scientific disciplines, with forestry being one of its most dynamic areas of use. Its primary strength lies in reducing data dimensionality and classifying parameters within complex ecological datasets. This study provides the first comprehensive bibliometric and literature review focused exclusively on PCA applications in forestry. A total of 96 articles published between 1993 and 2024 were analyzed using the Web of Science database and visualized using VOSviewer software, version 1.6.20. The bibliometric analysis revealed that the most active scientific fields were environmental sciences, forestry, and engineering, and the most frequently published journals were Forests and Sustainability. Contributions came from 198 authors across 44 countries, with China, Spain, and Brazil identified as leading contributors. PCA has been employed in a wide range of forestry applications, including species classification, biomass modeling, environmental impact assessment, and forest structure analysis. It is increasingly used to support decision-making in forest management, biodiversity conservation, and habitat evaluation. In recent years, emerging research has demonstrated innovative integrations of PCA with advanced technologies such as hyperspectral imaging, LiDAR, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and remote sensing platforms. These integrations have led to substantial improvements in forest fire detection, disease monitoring, and species discrimination. Furthermore, PCA has been combined with other analytical methods and machine learning models—including Lasso regression, support vector machines, and deep learning algorithms—resulting in enhanced data classification, feature extraction, and ecological modeling accuracy. These hybrid approaches underscore PCA’s adaptability and relevance in addressing contemporary challenges in forestry research. By systematically mapping the evolution, distribution, and methodological innovations associated with PCA, this study fills a critical gap in the literature. It offers a foundational reference for researchers and practitioners, highlighting both current trends and future directions for leveraging PCA in forest science and environmental monitoring. Watershed water bodies, as a key part of the Earth’s water cycle, were identified as an important destination for emerging pollutants. However, existing research primarily focused on single environmental zones, such as lakes or rivers, lacking a comprehensive understanding at the watershed scale. Scientific knowledge mapping and tools, such as Bibliometrics, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace, were employed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of literature on emerging pollutants in watershed water bodies from the WOSCC database. The results indicated that, from 2000 to 2024, research themes in this field gradually expanded from the identification and detection of pollutants to source analysis, environmental behavior, ecological effects, risk assessment, and social governance. Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed high-frequency terms such as “waste-water,” “persistent organic pollutants,” “polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,” and pollutants related to sediments. Burst keyword analysis showed that early keywords like “polychlorinated biphenyls” were gradually replaced by more recent terms like “particles.” Additionally, it was found that cooperation between China and the United States was close, and research was increasingly interdisciplinary. Finally, the main challenges in the current research were summarized, and future research directions were proposed, aiming to provide theoretical support and data foundation for scientific studies and policymaking concerning emerging pollutants in watershed water bodies. The building sector holds a significant position in the global energy consumption share, and its environmental impact continues to intensify, making the construction industry a key player in sustainable development. The application of life cycle assessment on buildings (LCA-B) is widely employed to evaluate building energy and environment performance, and thus is of great significance for ensuring the sustainability of the project. This work aims to provide a systematic overview of LCA-B development based on reviewed literature. A three-stage mixed research method is adopted in this study: Firstly, an overall analysis framework is constructed, and 327 papers related to building life cycle assessment published between 2009 and 2025 are screened out by using the bibliometric method; Then, through scientometrics analysis, the journal regions, sources, scholars, and keyword evolution are revealed and analyzed using VOSviewer tool, and the hotspots in the field of LCA-B (e.g., integration of building information modeling (BIM) in LCA-B, multi-dimensional framework of environment–society–culture) are preliminarily explored based on the selected highly cited papers. The research finds that: (1) the performance of low energy buildings is better than that of net zero energy buildings from the perspective of LCA; (2) software compatibility and data exchange are the main obstacles in the integration of BIM-LCA; (3) a multi-dimensional LCA framework covering the social or cultural aspects is expected for a comprehensive assessment of building performance. This study provides a systematic analysis and elaboration of review articles related to LCA-B and thereby provides researchers with in-depth insight into this field. Full article

Hyperuricemia, defined as elevated serum uric acid (SUA) levels (>6.8 mg/dL), is traditionally linked to gout and nephrolithiasis but is increasingly implicated in insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Epidemiological studies, such as NHANES, suggest hyperuricemia increases the risk of T2DM by 1.6 to 2.5 times. Mechanistically, uric acid promotes IR via oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and adipocyte dysregulation. Despite growing evidence, significant gaps remain in understanding these pathways, with existing studies often limited by observational designs and short intervention durations. A bibliographic analysis of studies from 2004–2024 using Web of Science and VOSviewer highlights a growing focus on hyperuricemia’s interplay with inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorders. However, inconsistencies in therapeutic outcomes and limited exploration of causality underscore the need for further research. We also explored the importance of gender stratification and the limitations of the binary model for the relationship between hyperuricemia and insulin resistance. This review emphasizes the importance of addressing these gaps to optimize hyperuricemia management as a potential strategy for diabetes prevention and metabolic health improvement. Full article

Decentralized desalination systems driven by renewable energy sources have surfaced as a feasible way to alleviate water scarcity in arid and rural areas. This bibliometric study aims to clarify the research trends, conceptual frameworks, and cooperative dynamics in the scientific literature on decentralized renewable-powered desalination techniques. Using a thorough search approach, 1354 papers were found. Duplicates, thematically unrelated works, and entries with poor information were removed using the PRISMA 2020 framework. A selected 832 relevant papers from a filtered dataset were chosen for in-depth analysis. Quantitative measures were obtained by means of Bibliometrix; network visualisation was obtained by means of VOSviewer (version 1.6.19) and covered co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and citation structures. Over the previous 20 years, the data show a steady rise in academic production, especially in the fields of environmental science, renewable energy engineering, and water treatment technologies. Author keyword co-occurrence mapping revealed strong theme clusters centred on solar stills, thermoelectric modules, reverse osmosis, and off-grid systems. Emphasizing current research paths and emerging subject borders, this paper clarifies the intellectual and social structure of the field. The outcomes are expected to help policy creation, cooperative projects, and strategic planning meant to hasten innovation in sustainable and decentralized water desalination. Full article

Background: In elderly community services, information technology is reshaping the daily lives of older adults in unprecedented ways. It effectively addresses the issue of frailty in the community by strengthening support networks and dynamic risk management. Despite its vast potential, there remains a need to explore further enabling methods in the realm of elderly community services. Objectives: This study aims to provide a significant theoretical and practical foundation for information technology in this field by systematically analyzing the progress and trends of digital transformation facilitated by information technology. Materials and method: To map the advancements and emerging trends in this evolving field, this study conducts a bibliometric analysis of 461 relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection (2004–2024). The research employs bibliometric methods and utilizes tools such as CiteSpace and VOSViewer to analyze collaborations, keywords, and citations, as well as to perform data visualization. Results: The findings indicate that current research hotspots mainly focus on “community care”, “access to care”, “technology”, and “older adults”.Potential development trends include (1) further exploration of information technology in elderly care to provide more precise health management solutions; (2) systematically building community elderly service systems to offer more detailed elderly care services; (3) strengthening interdisciplinary information sharing and research collaboration to drive innovation in community elderly care models; and (4) introducing targeted policy and financial support to improve the specific implementation framework of information technology in elderly community services. Conclusions: This study provides empirical support for the development of relevant theories and practices. Furthermore, the research outcomes offer valuable insights into business opportunities for practitioners and provide important recommendations for formulating elderly service policies. Full article

This study provides a PRISMA-guided bibliometric analysis of scholarly research at the intersection of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts, green accounting, and sustainable urbanization. This study employs 130 peer-reviewed articles obtained from the Scopus database (2014–2025) and applies Biblioshiny (version 4.1) and VOSviewer (version 1.6.20) to analyze publishing trends, topic clusters, conceptual frameworks, and citation patterns. The results demonstrate a growing convergence of ESG frameworks and environmental accounting practices in urban governance discussions, driven by elevated demands for transparency, performance evaluation, and sustainable change. Green accounting is an essential instrument for executing ESG principles at the municipal level, enhancing the credibility of sustainability reporting and enabling data-driven urban decision-making. Thematic mapping and hierarchical clustering illustrate a dynamic and varied research ecosystem, defined by distinct clusters focused on ESG transparency, urban resilience, governance innovation, and green technology integration. This study contributes to the literature by clarifying the structural and conceptual evolution of this emerging field and by suggesting a research agenda to promote integrated governance models that align financial, environmental, and social goals within urban systems. Two-phase expansion processes have emerged as a promising technology for enhancing energy efficiency in power generation, refrigeration, waste heat recovery systems (for example, partially evaporated organic Rankine cycle, organic flash cycle, and trilateral flash cycle), oil and gas, and other applications. However, despite their potential, widespread adoption is hindered by inherent challenges, particularly energy losses that reduce operational efficiency. This review systematically evaluates the current state of two-phase expansion technologies, focusing on the root causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies for expansion losses. This work used Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Using the PRISMA framework, 52 relevant publications were identified from Scopus and Web of Science to conduct the systematic review. A preliminary co-occurrence analysis of keywords was also conducted using VOSviewer version 1.6.20. Three clusters were observed in this co-occurrence analysis. However, the results may not be significant. Therefore, the extended work was done through a comprehensive analysis of experimental and simulation studies from the literature. This study identifies critical loss mechanisms in key components of two-phase expanders, such as the nozzle, diffuser, rotor, working chamber, and vaneless space. Also, losses arising from wetness, such as droplet formation, interfacial friction, and non-equilibrium phase transitions, are examined. These phenomena degrade performance by disrupting flow stability, increasing entropy generation, and causing mechanical erosion. Several losses in the turbine and volumetric expanders operating in two-phase conditions are reported. Ejectors, throttling valves, and flashing flow systems that exhibit similar challenges of losses are also discussed. This review discusses the mitigation and the strategy to minimize the two-phase expansion losses. The geometry of the inlet of the two-phase expanders plays an important role, which also needs improvement to minimize losses. The review highlights recent advancements in addressing these challenges and shows optimization opportunities for further research. Full article

Cacao in the Circular Economy: A Review on Innovations from Its By-Products

Cacao is a food of global interest. Currently, the industry primarily utilizes the seed, which represents between 21% and 23% of the total fruit weight. In 2023, global production reached 5.6 million tons of fermented dry cacao beans, while approximately 25.45 million tons corresponded to cacao residues. The objective of this review was to compile and analyze alternatives for the utilization of cacao by-products. The methodology involved technological surveillance conducted in specialized databases between 2015 and 2025. Metadata were analyzed using VOSviewer software version 1.6.20. Priority was given to the most recent publications in high-impact indexed journals. Additionally, 284 patent documents were identified, from which 15 were selected for in-depth analysis. The reviewed articles and patents revealed a wide range of industrial applications for cacao by-products. Technologies including ultrasonic and microwave-assisted extraction, phenolic microencapsulation, cellulose nanocrystal isolation and targeted microbial fermentations maximize the recovery of polyphenols and antioxidants, optimize the production of high-value bioproducts such as citric acid and ethanol, and yield biodegradable precursors for packaging and bioplastics. The valorization of lignocellulosic by-products reduces pollutant discharge and waste management costs, enhances economic viability across the cacao value chain, and broadens functional applications in the food industry. Moreover, these integrated processes underpin circular economy frameworks by converting residues into feedstocks, thereby promoting sustainable development in producer communities and mitigating environmental impact. Collectively, they constitute a robust platform for the comprehensive utilization of cacao residues, fully aligned with bioeconomy objectives and responsible resource stewardship. Full article

Urban rail transit is a key enabler for optimizing urban spatial structures, and its interactive relationship with land use has long been a focus of attention. However, existing studies suffer from scattered methodologies, a lack of systematic analysis, and insufficient dynamic insights into global trends. This study comprehensively employs CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica to conduct bibliometric and knowledge map analysis on 1894 articles from the Web of Science database between 2004 and 2024, focusing on global research trends, collaboration networks, thematic evolution, and methodological advancements. Key findings include the following: (1) research on rail transit and land use has been steadily increasing, with a significant “US-China dual-core” distribution, where most studies are concentrated in the United States and China, with higher research density in Asia; (2) domestic and international research has primarily focused on themes such as the built environment, value capture, and public transportation, with a recent shift toward artificial intelligence and smart city technology applications; (3) research methods have evolved from foundational 3S technologies (GIS, GPS, RS) to spatial modeling tools (e.g., LUTI model, node-place model), and the current emergence of AI-driven analysis (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, digital twins). The study identifies three future research directions—technology integration, data governance, and institutional innovation—which provide guidance for the coordinated planning of transportation and land use in future smart city development. This paper aims to fill a gap in relation to herbaceous biomass, which is the second most important source of biomass used for the production of solid biofuels in the form of pellets. Our research focuses on the final stage of compacted fuel production, specifically on the pressure densification of biomass into pellets. This review was conducted using bibliometric techniques. This analysis included searching indexed publications in the Web of Science—Core Collection and Scopus databases. The time range of the searched data was 1991–2024. First, bibliometric data were collected and quantitative analyses were performed. The next stage consisted of analyzing keywords from the authors’ publications using the VOSviewer program. The generated term maps allowed for the analysis of the frequency of keywords in different years and the most frequently cited ones, which enabled the identification of current research topics and the evolution of trends. Based on the collected data, applications, process parameters and raw materials used in the biomass densification process were determined. Following the bibliometric analysis, detailed analyses were carried out on the factors influencing the pressure compaction process. Full article
