Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Industrial wastewaters are the most critical types of wastewater in term of pollutant content. This Special Issue aims to collect up-to-date papers that explore novel approaches for detecting and tackling pollution in industrial wastewaters and for quantifying the impacts on the ecosystems. Both research papers and review articles are welcome. Moreover, short communications of preliminary but significant results and case studies (e.g., optimization of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) processes) will be taken into consideration.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

Novel approaches

  • Technologies for pollution prevention;
  • Management of high-strength wastewaters and seawater wastes;
  • Contaminants removal by advanced technologies (e.g., photocatalysis, electrocoagulation, bioremediation);
  • Emerging contaminants and novel approaches for detection (e.g., analysis of microplastics and anthropogenic nanomaterials in complex matrixes);
  • Reuse and recycling of treatment’s residues.

Quantification of the impacts

  • Risk analysis and risk management;
  • Impact on the environment (LCA, GHG emissions, etc.);
  • Impact of polluted wastewaters on WWTPs’ biota (including distribution, bioaccumulation, and toxicity);
  • Respirometric tests and other direct or indirect methods for online quantification of biomass within operating WWTPs;
  • Emergence and transmission of pollution-induced antimicrobial resistance.

Authors are invited to submit a preliminary abstract and a tentative title to the Editors in order to determine whether the topic fits the scope of the Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
