Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on urban logistics and supply chains as critical infrastructures of the digital economy, examining how cities, firms, platforms, and public authorities respond to rapid technological, economic, and societal transformations. It emphasizes the intersection between digitalization, urbanization, and sustainability, recognizing cities as both nodes of global supply chains and laboratories for innovation.

The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Digital transformation of urban logistics (e.g., platforms, AI, IoT, blockchain, digital twins);
  • E-commerce, omnichannel distribution, and last-mile logistics;
  • Data-driven decision-making in urban freight systems;
  • Urban logistics governance, regulation, and public–private coordination;
  • Resilience and adaptability of urban supply chains to shocks (pandemics, climate events, geopolitical disruptions);
  • Environmental and social impacts of urban freight transport;
  • New business models and organizational forms in digitally enabled supply chains;
  • Equity, labor, and inclusion challenges in platform-based urban logistics.
  • Urban logistics public best practices and policies.

By integrating perspectives from operations management, urban studies, economics, geography, information systems, and public policy, the Special Issue will advance interdisciplinary understanding of how urban supply chains evolve within a rapidly changing digital economy.
