Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue, “Smart and Liveable Cities: Urban Prototypes, AI Urbanism, and the Transformation of Urban Futures,” focuses on interdisciplinary research in urbanism, with an overarching emphasis on liveability, smartness, and artificial intelligence (AI). Specifically, the Special Issue examines experimental urban systems and emerging technologies, addressing future challenges in sustainability, resilience, urban transformation, governance, and related urban systems. As urban systems move from smartness (smart cities) to AI, liveability must remain at the heart of smart, technological, and AI urbanism. Therefore, this Special Issue welcomes both technological and critical perspectives on the opportunities and impacts of these systems, and on the implications of AI, including the potential to positively impact urbanism as well as its unintended consequences for urban living. Contributions are particularly encouraged to explore smartness, technologies, and systems that benefit urban liveability overall. Additionally, this Special Issue aims to contribute to research and understanding of these technologies, their technological and urban performance, and their evaluation in terms of liveability, wider urban impact, and the ethos and ethics of emerging urban systems and related technologies. The contributions will deepen understanding of decision-making, design, planning, governance, and urban interventions that could transform the urban environment and shape how we share urban living.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
