Sustainable Food Systems: Advancing Equity, Efficiency, and Resilience for a Better Future

This special issue belongs to the section “Sustainable Food“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, entitled “Sustainable Food Systems: Advancing Equity, Efficiency, and Resilience for a Better Future”, explores the critical intersections between environmental sustainability, public health, and socio-economic equity in food systems. It focuses on the transformation of food systems to promote planetary health while addressing the nutritional needs and well-being of diverse populations.

The scope of this Special Issue includes the enhancement of resource efficiency across food production and distribution, reductions in food waste, the promotion of equitable access to nutritious food, and the mitigation of the health impacts of climate change. Emphasis will also be placed on the role of food reformulation, dietary shifts, and public health policies in fostering sustainable and healthy eating patterns.

The aim of this Special Issue is to present holistic approaches that align environmental goals with health outcomes. While much of the existing research focuses on isolated aspects, this Special Issue will underscore the interconnectedness of ecological sustainability, nutrition, and health equity, offering actionable insights into integrated solutions.

By addressing the dual challenges of sustainability and public health, this Special Issue aims to provide researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with strategies to build resilient food systems that support both planetary health and human well-being.
