Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Development of digital technology is significantly changing the system of vocational education. “Internet +” vocational Education uses modern information technology to improve the efficiency and flexibility of vocational education for international students. The integration of production and education is a key link in the development of vocational education, which includes more practical teaching than ordinary education. Traditional practical teaching requires the institutions to invest large scale of money to build training bases. In addition, the training process will inevitably produce equipment loss, security risks and other problems. Therefore, the digital technology, such as virtual simulation, can help to improve the effects of vocational colleges. Therefore, research on the ways of using digital technology to provide intelligent education platform, online open courses, and virtual simulation training for sustainable vocational education is in need.

With the deepening of economic globalization and the increasing flow of production factors and talents around the world, internationalization of vocational education is highly valued by most countries. Vocational education institutions should strengthen international cooperation and give students a global vision and sense of responsibility. Vocational education is closely linked to economic and social development and is of great significance in promoting employment and entrepreneurship, boosting economic and social development, and improving people's well-being. Under this common vision, we should learn from each other to promote improvement and go hand in hand for common development. Especially for international students who accept vocational education in different countries, they need more recognition for their professional qualifications around the world. It is necessary that multinational enterprises, overseas educational institutions, and other international and regional organizations work together deeply to form global standards for quality evaluation of vocational education, and promote vocational international mutual recognition system. So, in this issue, we welcome experts to conduct dialogue and share policies on promoting international cooperation on vocational education.

Possible research questions/topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • How to use digital technology to enhance vocational education

This research introduces a sustainable, metaverse-based vocational preparation program designed to empower adults with disabilities, providing them with the necessary skills to secure and retain employment in a landscape drastically altered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic. After implementing the program with nine adults with disabilities, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyze the differences in the pre- and post-tests of the study participants. As a result, the participants’ interpersonal relationships, problem-solving abilities in the workplace, and online interview skills were significantly improved. This study holds significance in its innovative approach to vocational education, adapting to shifts in employment trends and providing interventions in the metaverse that transcend traditional educational settings.
