Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
(1) Introduction, including scientific background and highlighting the importance of this research area.
The sustainable construction and resilient development of transportation infrastructure have become pivotal research priorities amid global modernization and rapid urbanization. In recent decades, increasing numbers of extreme climate events and catastrophic disasters have resulted in severe human casualties, substantial economic losses, and profound societal disruptions. Consequently, both developed and developing nations are increasingly emphasizing disaster-responsive infrastructure management, with the implementation of systemic resilience enhancement technologies now recognized as a critical strategic objective worldwide.
(2) Aim of the Special Issue and how the subject relates to the journal scope.
This Special Issue focuses on cutting-edge advancements in urban infrastructure renewal, encompassing novel materials, innovative technologies, intelligent systems, and evidence-based management frameworks. Its objective is to establish optimized methodologies for the lifecycle management of eco-efficient infrastructure—from design and construction to maintenance, decommissioning, and material recycling—while providing theoretical foundations and practical solutions for overcoming sustainability challenges in future global infrastructure development.
(3) Suggest themes.
The topics covered in this Special Issue may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Advanced materials and workable technologies for urban renewal implementations;
- Potential opportunities for achieving carbon neutrality in existing technologies;
- The sustainable profits of advanced construction and maintenance technologies;
- Air pollutant emissions and environmental assessments of pavement lifecycles;
- Solid waste utilization for infrastructure construction from the perspective of urban renewal;
- The practical application of solar energy in transport pavement infrastructure;
- Renewable energy sources applied in infrastructure design and construction.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
