Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Pavements constitute the largest and most readily accessible component of the transportation network. Deterioration, including roughness, rutting, stripping, and cracking, not only accelerates vehicle component wear but also reduces fuel efficiency. In addition, roadway repairs often cause significant delays, leading to lost time and reduced transportation productivity.
The proper monitoring of pavement condition and the accurate assessment of pavement performance at the network level play a critical role in maintaining infrastructure quality and reducing maintenance costs. Factors such as traffic loading, vehicle classifications, climate variability, material aging, and available funding all influence network efficiency. Therefore, it is essential to continuously develop and improve pavement management systems to ensure cost-effective and reliable performance. Moreover, strategic planning that accounts for the various components of pavement networks should be prioritized.
Given this background, this Special Issue invites original research and review articles on the following topics:
- Assessment of pavement condition in terms of quality and safety;
- Development of and improvement in pavement management systems;
- Short-term and long-term pavement performance monitoring and modeling;
- Pavement management strategies at both project and network levels;
- Rehabilitation and preservation techniques for pavements;
- Novel materials and technologies for pavement preventive maintenance;
- Pavement life cycle assessment;
- Methods for enhancing pavement resilience.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
