Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The provision of sustainable supplies of safe drinking water in rural/municipal areas and a continuous supply of affordable clean water for industrial development across the globe are amongst the most significant challenges we face today. Therefore, the proper treatment of wastewater, including municipal, hospital, and industrial wastewater, not only safeguards our water supply but also provides opportunities to recover valuable resources, which will address environmental issues faced across the world. The implementation of innovative engineering solutions is fundamental to addressing water challenges. Novel innovations and continuous efforts are the key to advancing science and technology. These will provide a foundation of sustainability in the development of water treatment technologies, their subsequent usage to recover wastewater, and the environmentally friendly disposal of wastewater. Solar-assisted photocatalysis, advanced oxidation processes, and other separation technologies for wastewater treatment are emerging technologies in recent years.

This Special Issue aims to present wastewater treatment with possible solutions focusing on sustainable processes for water purification and management for the remediation of environmental pollution. We hope that, in future, these sustainable, efficient, and reliable technologies towards circular economy will bring the sustainable development of the society.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Relevant research areas include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Sustainable H2 production and water treatment;
  • Green functional materials for wastewater treatment;
  • Water purification technology;
  • Industrial wastewater treatment technology;
  • Solar- and UV-light-assisted treatment processes;
  • Anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic wastewater treatment;
  • Application of biotechnology for wastewater treatment;
  • Resource recovery from wastewater;
  • Adsorption processes;
  • Advanced oxidation processes;
  • Solar-assisted processes;
  • Nanotechnology in wastewater treatment;
  • Photocatalysis;
  • Biochar synthesis and application in wastewater treatment;
  • Membrane technology;
  • Desalination technology.

I look forward to receiving your contributions in this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
