Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Achieving sustainability and advancing a green economy require profound transformations in production systems, consumption patterns, and organizational decision-making processes. Digital technologies are increasingly recognized as key enablers of this transition, providing innovative tools to monitor environmental impacts, improve resource efficiency, enhance supply chain transparency, and support sustainability-driven innovation. At the same time, digitalization presents significant challenges, including rising energy consumption, data governance and privacy concerns, and the risk of widening social and digital inequalities. These complex and sometimes contradictory effects highlight the need for rigorous research that critically examines how digital technologies interact with sustainability objectives across diverse industries, regions, and institutional contexts.
The aim of this Special Issue is to advance both theoretical and empirical understanding of the role of digital technologies in promoting sustainable business practices and supporting the transition toward a green economy. This topic aligns closely with the scope of the journal Sustainability by addressing the integration of economic performance, environmental stewardship, and social well-being through technological innovation. The Special Issue encourages interdisciplinary contributions that bridge sustainability science, business and management studies, green macroeconomic systems, and policy-oriented research.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Digital innovation and business models for the green economy;
- Digital technologies supporting low-carbon and resource-efficient economic systems;
- Digital platforms and ecosystems enabling circular and green economy practices;
- Smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 for green production and sustainable value chains;
- Digitalization and corporate sustainability performance;
- Ethical, social, and governance dimensions of digital sustainability;
- Policy and regulatory frameworks for digital technologies enabling green economic development;
- Digital transformation of businesses for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- Digital technologies and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance in green markets.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.
