Sexual Addiction and Family Education

Sexual addiction remains one of the least understood diseases in the field of sexuality. These health problems are less likely to be detected and treated because of the still controversial nature of their definition, etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Sexual education is known as an important prevention strategy for all sexual problems.

In the theme of sexual addiction, the family unit is often neglected. However, this disorder has a major impact not only on the identified patient, but also on their partner and family. Moreover, the family unit is the context in which the Sexual Addict lives, and the mental health of the partner has a significant impact on the Sexual Addict’s recovery. Increasing evidence points to a family history of addiction or dysfunction as a primary contributor to sexual addiction in adulthood. When compulsive sexual behaviors are present within a family, family or couple treatments improve the couple’s relationship as well as the family mental health, preventing the risk of recurrences. In addition, the treatment of children in such families can help break the cycle of sexual addiction and prevent its perpetuation into the next generation.

This Special Issue seeks research papers on various aspects of sexual addiction such as diagnosis, treatment, and education. We especially encourage the submission of interdisciplinary work and multi-country collaborative research. We welcome original research papers using different study designs as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sexes is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
