Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrochemical sensors and biosensors represent reliable and efficient solutions for fast, sensitive and cost-effective detection in areas such as environmental monitoring, food safety and clinical diagnostics. They are easy to operate, deliver rapid results and can be adapted for on-site testing. As the demand for accurate and user-friendly analytical methods continues to grow, these technologies are gaining increasing importance in practical, real-world applications.

Recent progress in materials science and nanotechnology has greatly improved the performance of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. The use of nanomaterials in electrode design has increased the active surface area, improved electron transfer and enhanced catalytic activity, resulting in lower detection limits and better selectivity. At the same time, advances in surface modification, device design and miniaturization are helping to move these systems from laboratory research to practical, portable devices suitable for real-world use.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and review papers covering recent progress in electrochemical sensors and biosensors. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Development of new electrode materials and engineering of their functional properties to enhance analytical performance in detection;
  • Printing technologies and scalable production of electrode materials for application in electrochemical sensing;
  • Design, fabrication and miniaturization of electrochemical sensing devices;
  •  Applications of electrochemical sensors and biosensors in clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring and food quality control;
  • Flexible, wearable and implantable electrochemical systems;
  • Signal processing and AI-assisted data analysis in electrochemical sensing.

We encourage submissions that demonstrate practical use, validation with real samples and clear potential for real-world applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
