Romanian Society of Preventive Medicine (RSPM)
The "Romanian Society of Preventive Medicine" (RSPM) is a non-political, non-profit, professional scientific association for specialist doctors, primary care physicians, and researchers in any medical specialty who have achieved recognition for their clinical and scientific activity in their respective fields and are dedicated to improving the screening and prevention of various conditions.
The aims of the association are to promote and support the concept of preventive medicine at the national level; to improve and implement national-scale screening and early diagnostic programs in all medical specialties; and to scientifically advocate for the harmonious development of vaccination programs, healthy nutrition, sports, and oral health as key components of a healthy life for young people, pregnant women, and the general population.
The association's objectives are to achieve the national implementation of screening throughout Romania and to achieve preventive, predictive, personalized, and participatory medicine, which can enhance disease prevention—particularly in the advanced stages of diseases—as well as risk prediction, health promotion, and well-being.
The activities of the society converge on Fundamental Research (developing new methods of screening, diagnosis, and therapy), Clinical Medicine (practicing preventive medicine in all specialties), and Public Health (implementing programs).
The RSPM's actions are directed towards informing and educating the population about health; improving the standards of medical practice through continuous medical education programs for medical staff; supporting legislative proposals for the implementation of national screening and early diagnostic programs; and restoring the functionality of/establishing the National Cancer Registry, the National Screening Registry, the National Registry of Fetal Anomalies, and the National Genetic Cancer Registry, as well as supporting the National Registry of Rare Diseases.
The RSPM advocates for the implementation and expansion of national screening programs with the following foci: remodeling them to focus on rural populations; ensuring that screening is population-based in nature; sending out individual invitations, with a fixed appointment date included, using screening registries or databases connected to the population registry; and providing continuous services for positive cases.
The association supports the establishment of regional screening centers with financial autonomy, dedicated personnel, well-individualized locations, and equipment that is exclusively dedicated to screening programs, based on standardized guidelines and mechanisms of medical practice that ensure a level of quality that aligns with European guidelines.
