Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent advances in remote sensing technologies have significantly enhanced the ability to monitor aquatic environments and acquire spatial information on coastal areas and inland waters. Satellite, airborne, UAV, USV, LiDAR, and field data provide increasingly accurate information for bathymetric mapping, water quality monitoring, coastal process analysis, and water resource management. Particular attention is being given to methods that integrate data from multiple sources, enabling comprehensive analyses across different spatial and temporal scales. Advances in remote sensing technologies, sensor capabilities, and geospatial data processing methods continue to expand the possibilities for acquiring, integrating, and analysing information on aquatic environments and coastal areas. Multi-platform approaches integrating satellite, airborne, UAV, USV, LiDAR, and field data also play an increasingly important role, enabling comprehensive analyses of aquatic environments and coastal zones.

The aim of this Special Issue is to present the latest scientific and technological advances in the use of remote sensing for bathymetric mapping, aquatic monitoring, and coastal zone analysis. Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of satellite, airborne, UAV, USV, and field data, as well as on the development of methods for multi-source data integration and processing. The scope of the Special Issue is fully aligned with the profile of Remote Sensing, covering topics related to the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of remote sensing data and their applications in studies of aquatic environments, inland waters, and coastal zones.

This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and review papers related to the application of remote sensing in aquatic environments. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bathymetric mapping using remote sensing data;
  • Satellite remote sensing of inland waters and coastal areas;
  • UAV and USV applications in aquatic remote sensing;
  • Airborne and bathymetric LiDAR;
  • Integration of satellite, airborne, UAV, USV, and field data for bathymetric mapping and aquatic monitoring;
  • Applications of multispectral, hyperspectral, and SAR imagery;
  • Coastal zone monitoring and coastal process analysis;
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning methods for remote sensing data analysis;
  • Detection and monitoring of vessels and other surface objects using remote sensing data;
  • Accuracy assessment, validation, and quality assessment of remote sensing data.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Remote Sensing is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
