Carbon Neutrality and Hazardous Emission Control for Internal Combustion Engines

Dear Colleagues,

The internal combustion engine stands as one of the most pivotal and emblematic inventions of the modern Industrial Revolution. Serving as a power source, it boasts remarkable advantages such as high thermal efficiency, exceptional power density, and compatibility with a wide range of fuels. Therefore, it continues to find extensive applications in transportation, agriculture, and construction, playing a pivotal role in driving societal productivity and fostering human advancement. In recent years, a global surge in collective efforts to combat climate change has ushered in a shared ambition and vision of achieving carbon neutrality. Concurrently, there has also been an escalating demand for near-zero emissions from hazardous pollutants. The reduction in greenhouse gases and the control of near-zero pollutant emissions bring dual challenges for the internal combustion engine. Consequently, continuous streams of scientific research and technological innovations are emerging to address the carbon and hazardous emission reduction issues of the internal combustion engine, minimizing its carbon footprint and creating fresh prospects for its evolution and growth.

This Special Issue on “Carbon Neutrality and Hazardous Emission Control for Internal Combustion Engines” is dedicated to showcasing the latest advancements in low-carbon/zero-carbon fuels, efficient and clean combustion, and greenhouse gas and hazardous pollutant emission control for internal combustion engines. The topics of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

• Combustion characteristics and reaction kinetics of low/zero-carbon fuels;
• Preparation, storage, transportation, and supply technologies for low/zero-carbon fuels;
• Efficient and clean combustion technologies for internal combustion engines;
• Efficient and stable exhaust aftertreatment technologies for internal combustion engines;
• Combustion and emission control technologies for internal combustion engines using low/zero-carbon fuels;
• Efficient carbon capture and utilization technologies for internal combustion engines;
• Energy conversion and advanced energy-saving technologies for internal combustion engines.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
