Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the increasing demand for high-efficiency, selective, and sustainable catalytic technologies, metal catalysts have remained central to advancements in chemical, energy, and environmental processes. Recent progress has placed growing emphasis on novel synthesis methods that enable precise control over the structural, compositional, and electronic properties of metal catalysts. These advanced strategies have led to significant improvements in catalytic performance, including enhanced activity, selectivity, and stability.

Equally important is the integration of metal catalysts into functional catalytic systems, which bridges the gap between material innovation and practical application. The combination of catalyst development with system-level design—including reaction engineering, reactor configuration, and process optimization—is key to translating laboratory-scale advancements into scalable, real-world solutions.

This Special Issue on ‘Advances in Metal Catalyst: Synthesis and Application’ is dedicated to recent advances in the design, synthesis, and application of metal catalysts, with a particular focus on innovative synthetic strategies and system integration in diverse catalytic processes. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Novel synthesis methods for metal catalysts (e.g., templated growth, self-assembly, atomic layer deposition, confinement strategies).
  • Tailoring of nanostructured, bimetallic, alloyed, and single-atom catalysts.
  • Advanced characterization to correlate structure with performance.
  • System-level integration of catalysts into thermal, electrochemical, and photochemical processes.
  • Scalable reactor and process design involving metal catalysts.
  • Catalytic applications in energy, environmental, and industrial transformations.
  • Mechanistic and kinetic studies supporting catalyst design and application.
  • Catalyst regeneration and long-term durability in integrated systems.

This Issue aims to showcase state-of-the-art research that connects innovative catalyst synthesis with system-oriented applications, promoting new directions for high-performance and scalable catalytic technologies

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
