Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite your submissions to this Special Issue on “Multiphase Flow and Process Modeling in Energy Resources Recovery and Utilization”.

Complex multiphase flow behavior and process modeling involved in deep underground engineering (such as deep mine, tunnel engineering, energy storage, and geothermal development, etc.) is the research frontier in the field of rock mechanics and engineering. The co-evolution mechanism and accurate description of multiphase media (solid–liquid–gas) under deep high stress, high ground temperature, high osmotic pressure, and strong disturbance environment have become the key bottleneck restricting engineering safety and efficiency. Traditional analysis methods often have significant limitations in dealing with multi-field coupling processes under complex stress paths, resulting in problems such as lagging disaster warning, low efficiency of resource development, and insufficient environmental impact assessment. Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen the cross-scale theoretical research of multiphase flow, construct high-precision process simulation methods, and develop advanced monitoring and dynamic inversion techniques, so as to provide scientific support for the safe and efficient exploitation of deep resources and the sustainable utilization of underground space.

This Special Issue aims to collate papers that address new scientific advancements to enhance the recovery process of deep underground engineering. We especially welcome submissions on the following topics:

  • Multiphase flow constitutive model;
  • Multi-field coupling analysis;
  • Deep energy storage;
  • Geothermal resource development;
  • Transport characteristics of porous media;
  • Fracture reconstruction;
  • Advanced numerical methods.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
