Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, we have witnessed exceptional technical advances in the processing of self-assembling polymers at the nanoscale (e.g., block copolymers and polymeric nanoparticles) for the realization of functional nanomaterials with metals and dielectric compounds and tunable properties in the realms of photonics, electronics and nanotechnology. The vast portfolio of characterization techniques used in materials science faces novel challenges in the accurate determination of the composite materials’ properties at the nanoscale.

For this reason and due to the broad implications of these topics, this Special Issue is devoted to collecting the most recent research on the development of advanced nanofabrication and processing methods involving self-assembled polymer nano-objects and block copolymers, on their tailored optical and dimensional properties and on their multidimensional metrological characterization.

We encourage you to submit both original research papers and review articles on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Block copolymer self-assembly;
  • Nanosphere lithography;
  • Polymeric micelles;
  • Directed self-assembly;
  • Sequential infiltration synthesis;
  • Vapor phase infiltration;
  • Metal loading;
  • Hybrid metrology at the nanoscale;
  • Spectroscopic methods with optical and X-ray probes (e.g., spectroscopic ellipsometry, optical and X-ray reflectometry, X-ray fluorescence, small-angle X-ray scattering);
  • Plasmon enhanced spectroscopies (e.g., SERS, SEIRA, SEF);
  • Structural and dimensional characterization;
  • Electrical and optical characterization;
  • Materials by design;
  • Optical and electrical properties manipulation/control (e.g., optical constants, adsorption, luminescence, conductivity, resistivity, resistive switching);
  • Novel applications in photonics and electronics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
