Dear Colleagues,
We are surrounded by polymers. Everywhere we look there are polymeric materials: from our clothes to food packaging and the devices that power our lifestyle. Research has boosted the use of polymers in a wide variety of applications and consumer products that range from organic electronics to prosthetics. Information on the surface composition and chemical state of these materials is often vital in determining the performance of the polymeric materials. FTIR, Raman, UV–Visible or NMR spectroscopies are widely used to characterize the surface, morphology and structure, as well as the composition, of modified polymers. These techniques are at the forefront of research, particularly as microplastic pollution has emerged as a major environmental challenge. Polymer analysis via spectroscopy is a crucial first step toward developing solutions to reduce widespread microplastic contamination across biological and environmental domains.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
