Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is one of the most important root crops worldwide, playing a vital role in food security, nutritional supply, and sustainable agricultural systems. However, due to the complexity of its polyploid genome and the high level of genetic heterogeneity, research on the genetics, genomics, and evolution of sweet potato remains relatively limited compared with model plants and major staple crops.

This Special Issue focuses on key topics including genetic diversity, phylogenetic relationships, gene family evolution, and the genetic basis of domestication and improvement. We welcome studies that employ multi-omics approaches, gene family analysis, population genetics, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping to elucidate the genetic architecture underlying important agronomic, quality and adaptive traits in sweet potato.

In addition, contributions based on sweet potato germplasm resources are encouraged, particularly those integrating genetic diversity analyses, trait association studies, and genomics-assisted breeding strategies to address genetic improvement and breeding applications. Comparative and utilization studies involving wild relatives of sweet potato are also within the scope of this Special Issue.

Through this Special Issue, we aim to present a comprehensive overview of recent advances in sweet potato genetics, genomics, and evolutionary research, and to provide a solid scientific foundation for genetic improvement and the effective utilization of sweet potato resources.
