Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fiber crops, including cotton, hemp, flax, ramie, jute, coir, and sisal, represent a diverse and economically significant group of plants that are not only vital sources of raw materials for textiles, biocomposites, and paper, but also provide rich germplasm resources that are a foundation for crop improvement and sustainable agriculture. Leveraging omics analysis to utilize the vast genetic diversity of these crops creates opportunities to develop novel plants with higher yields, of superior quality, and with enhanced stress resistance for the agricultural and industrial sectors, as well as to improve their abilities to adapt to a wider range of environments. Furthermore, the study of germplasm resources and omics in fiber crops provides insights into the genetic regulatory mechanisms of fiber development, crop domestication, and complex agronomic traits. With the rapid advancement of high-throughput sequencing technologies, the continuous refinement of multi-omics analytical tools, and our deepening systematic understanding of the genomes and functional genes of fiber crops, there remains a wealth of unexplored genetic treasures to be discovered and utilized. This Special Issue of Plants will focus on the evaluation of germplasm resources, the analysis of genetic diversity, genomics and multi-omics studies of fiber crops, and their applications in functional gene discovery and molecular breeding. We welcome any papers that fit within our focus on fiber crops.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
