Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The special issue will focus on the Oncology Pharmacy education of Pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, oncology pharmacists. It may also cover the important practice areas such as oral oncolytic drugs and supportive care therapy. It may also provide guidelines for the monitoring of adverse effects of chemotherapy and targeted therapy. In addition, some papers could be submitted on how to sustain education of students on the skills needed to practice as they transition from school to the practice environment.

The education of patients is an important aspect to successful outcomes in oncology. Patients need to be taught the proper method of taking oncology medication, self-monitoring, and follow up. Educational materials should be provided in both written and audiovisual format. Patient education sessions should follow American Society of Health-System Pharmacist and ASCO standards and cover diagnosis, drug treatment, schedule of treatment, drug interactions and adverse effects. These sessions should also include a comprehensive medication review by the pharmacist.

Sustaining the education of pharmacists is a requirement for licensure in oncology pharmacy. Topics that are important to cover include education on cancer disease states, treatment of common cancers, and the management of adverse effects. Practice standards on supportive care, medication safety, and oral oncolytic drugs should be covered.

To provide topics in Oncology Pharmacy Education for students, patients, and pharmacist. The articles that appear in the journal should relate to topics of interest to an international audience.
