Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Currently, African swine fever virus (ASFV) is one of the most important threats for the swine industry worldwide. Reports from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) indicate that since 2022, more than 900,000 cases in pigs and more than 30,000 cases in wild boars have been reported, involving almost 2,000,000 losses in domestic pigs. Additionally, since that time, the presence of ASFV has been reported in 64 countries around the world. At this point, continuous research in multiple areas is needed to mitigate the impact of ASFV.
I have the pleasure of announcing to the scientific community the launch of the Special Issue “Emergence and Control of African Swine Fever: Second Edition”. In short, this edition is a continuation of the successful original Special Issue “Emergence and Control of African Swine Fever” (Pathogens), which comprised a collection of 21 papers.
This new Special Issue is open to the submission of manuscripts associated with multiple aspects of the biology of African swine fever virus, including the epidemiology, evolution, pathogenesis, vaccines, drug development, and diagnostics.
This new Special Issue welcomes a variety of manuscript types, including original research papers, methods papers, reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, hypotheses and theoretical works, case reports, letters to the editor, brief research reports, commentaries, opinions, editorials, and technology and codes. Authors must follow the authors’ guidelines in the preparation of their manuscripts.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions that will promote further developments in this field.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs).
