Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Gastrointestinal nematodiasis is a growing concern that threatens animal health, with direct impacts on livestock productivity and producers’ economies. This issue is exacerbated by the widespread dependence on antiparasitic treatments that rely on anthelmintic chemical drugs. While these drugs are effective at controlling parasitosis, they have major drawbacks: parasites are increasingly developing resistance, diminishing treatment efficacy, and environmental pollution is a growing concern, as drug residues excreted in faeces and urine contaminate soil and disrupt beneficial microbiota. Additionally, anthelmintic residues can persist as contaminants in meat, milk, and other animal-derived foods intended for human consumption. These challenges have prompted the scientific community to pursue more sustainable parasite control strategies that avoid resistance and toxic residues. In this context, biological control using natural antagonists of parasites has emerged as a promising alternative to reduce, or even partially replace, the indiscriminate use of chemical drugs. This Special Issue of Pathogens aims to highlight recent advances in the biological control of nematodes and showcase how cutting-edge molecular tools are enhancing this vital antiparasitic approach.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
