Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Nutritional strategies during pregnancy and lactation are essential for supporting maternal health due to the increased physiological and metabolic demands of these life stages. Energy, protein, and micronutrient requirements rise significantly to sustain maternal adaptations such as tissue growth, blood volume expansion, and milk production. Inadequate or unbalanced dietary intake has been associated with higher risks of nutritional deficiencies, fatigue, and metabolic complications. Evidence also suggests that overall diet quality plays a key role in maintaining maternal nutrient stores and long-term health. Consequently, balanced, nutrient-dense dietary patterns are widely recommended to ensure adequate intake and support maternal well-being throughout pregnancy and lactation.
This Special Issue calls for contributions focusing on core themes of maternal nutritional strategies during pregnancy and lactation, including, but not limited to, micronutrient intake and supplementation, dietary pattern optimization, nutritional management of metabolic complications, and the interplay between maternal diet, gut microbiome, and maternal health.
