Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to run this Special Issue on “Food Addiction, Nutrition and Women's Health’’ with Nutrients.

The increase in the consumption of ultra-processed foods has resulted in several health problems, including metabolic, eating, endocrine, and psychiatric disorders. As a result, a growing impact has been observed, especially on women's health, considering different gender perspectives. This Special Issue aims to advance scientific understanding of the concepts, determinants, and conditions that contribute to the emergence of food addiction and related outcomes in women’s nutrition and health. In addition, it aims to implement strategies that promote prevention and treatment with multidisciplinary approaches.

This Special Issue also highlights the importance of integrating the complexity of food systems contexts to promote sustainable and healthy systems that prevent metabolic repercussions.

We invite contributions from researchers, policymakers, educators, and public health professionals exploring topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Description of factors related to the genesis, epidemiology, and pathophysiology of food addiction.
  • Role of the food system in diet and nutrition-related diseases.
  • Associations between reproductive health problems and the food production chain.
  • Impact of food and nutrition education programs on solving problems involving food addiction.
  • Relationship between gender, eating disorders, and food contexts.
  • Sociobehavioral strategies and interventions as well as policies in addressing food outcomes.

This Special Issue aims to fill gaps in current research by highlighting practical applications and cross-sector collaborations. Contributions that employ innovative methodologies, longitudinal designs, and community-participatory approaches are particularly encouraged. Together, these efforts will inform actionable insights and policies to promote healthier food systems, thereby reducing problems related to poor diets, nutrition, and women’s health.

Authors are invited to contribute to this Special Issue by submitting original research articles, meta-analyses, and reviews that contribute new knowledge to this area. Papers selected for this Special Issue will be subject to a rigorous peer review process with the aim of the rapid and wide dissemination of research results, developments, and applications.
