Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are organizing a Special Issue focused on “Dietary Assessment and Dietary Improvement Suggestions for Obesity”.

In this Special Issue of Nutrients, we are welcoming original research articles, animal and clinical studies, and review articles on the current state of research.

With social and economic development, obesity has become an important public health issue of global concern. Obesity is closely related to a variety of chronic diseases, such as cardiometabolic diseases and cancers, causing a vast disease burden. Weight management is a complex and systematic project, involving multi-dimensional challenges such as physiology, psychology and social environment. Dietary assessment and dietary improvement strategies play an important role in the prevention and control of obesity and obesity-related diseases. Therefore, in this Special Issue, we aim to explore new technologies, approaches, challenges and opportunities in dietary assessment and dietary improvement strategies related to weight management. The contributions include, but are not limited to, the following directions:

  • Development, applications, and evaluations of new technologies for weight management, such as those utilizing data collection, recording, monitoring, and evaluation tools for diet and diet-related biomarkers based on artificial intelligence, image recognition, and wearable devices;
  • Dietary intervention measures and the evaluation of their effects for people with overweight or obesity in different scenarios, such as families, schools, communities and institutions;
  • Dietary improvement strategies for overweight or obesity people with different cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, physical conditions, and habits;
  • The combined effects of factors such as diet, physical activity, and genetics on weight management;
  • Dietary measures for the prevention of the adverse effects related to weight loss;
  • Research on the food and nutrition environment and policies for weight loss and weight management;
  • Behavioral science research related to the formation of healthy dietary behaviors in weight management;
  • Dietary strategies to manage weight for special populations such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with other chronic diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
