Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Chronic, uncontrolled inflammation causes or contributes to a multitude of human pathologies, including neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, autoimmune, and metabolic disorders. Omega-3 fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are naturally occurring anti-inflammatory molecules owing to their antagonistic activity against pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids, and the generation of inflammation-resolving metabolites such as resolvins. Although the beneficial effects of EPA and DHA for human health have been widely studied, the potential role of their anti-inflammatory properties as a unifying mechanism underlying diverse health effects has attracted significant attention only recently.
This Special Issue is devoted to recent studies on the relationship between the health effects of omega-3 fatty acids and their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. We invite authors to submit original contributions (pre-clinical and clinical), as well as reviews and perspectives focused on various diseases, and the mechanisms of action of EPA and DHA: dementia, depression, ophthalmological diseases, autoimmune disorders, obesity and metabolic disorders, periodontal diseases, inflammatory skin diseases, and arthritis.
These contributions can help elucidate the therapeutic potential of omega-3 fatty acids in diverse human diseases and develop more effective formulations.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
