Dear Colleagues,
The rapid integration of nanomaterials into commercial products has highlighted the need for a comprehensive understanding of their behavior and impacts across the entire lifecycle. This Special Issue, “Lifecycle of Nanomaterials: From Design to End-of-Life Management,” focuses on the systematic evaluation of nanomaterials from raw material selection and synthesis to use, aging, and end-of-life stages. Emphasis is placed on safety- and sustainable-by-design strategies that integrate material performance with toxicological and environmental considerations at each lifecycle phase. Contributions addressing lifecycle-driven material design, exposure and hazard assessment, transformation during use and disposal, and circular approaches such as recyclability, reuse, and controlled degradation are particularly encouraged. The Special Issue aims to bridge materials science, nanotoxicology, life-cycle assessment, and risk governance to support the development of nanomaterials that are not only functional but also demonstrably safe and sustainable. By adopting a cradle-to-grave perspective, this collection aims to advance scientific understanding and guide responsible innovation and regulatory decision-making in nanotechnology.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
