Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Transition-metal-catalyzed classical cross-coupling name reactions such as Suzuki–Miyaura, Negishi, Kumada, Stille, Hiyama, Sonogashira, Heck, Buchwald–Hartwig, and Ullmann-type couplings remain indispensable for constructing C–C and C–heteroatom bonds in modern synthesis and the pharmaceutical industry. This Special Issue highlights cross-coupling chemistry “from classical methods to modern advances” with three emphases.

First, we welcome state-of-the-art developments in classical palladium catalysis, particularly strategies that address challenging substrates and transformations, improved functional-group compatibility, and practical considerations related to sustainability (e.g., reduced catalyst loading, greener solvents, improved atom economy, and scalable protocols).

Second, we encourage studies that expand beyond palladium to alternative transition-metal platforms (e.g., Au, Ni, Cu, Co, Fe) that enable distinct catalytic paradigms. Motivated by sustainability concerns and the rising cost of noble metals, we especially encourage studies that explore earth-abundant metal-catalyzed cross-coupling strategies as reliable and applicable solutions.

Third, we adopt broad transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling relevant reactions, including both classical cross-couplings and tandem/cascade variants that rapidly build molecular complexity.

Contributions featuring new ligand design, mechanistic investigations (experimental and/or computational), late-stage modifications, and synthetic applications for constructing bioactive molecules are particularly encouraged. Original research articles and relevant reviews are both welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
