Natural Substances and Their Derivatives: In Search of New Structures, Activities and Applications-2nd Edition

Dear Colleagues,

Natural substances and their derivatives are currently subjects of significant interest in the pharmaceutical, health food, and cosmetics industries; therefore, the volume of scientific studies in this field is increasing rapidly. Living organisms and their products remain an insufficiently understood reservoir of natural compounds, most of which are biocompatible with the targets of human cells. These compounds are attractive scaffolds for drug development.

This Special Issue aims to provide an overview of the utilization of novel structures, activities, and applications in order to supply us with valuable biologically active products.

The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

1. The identification and biological evaluation of novel substances isolated from different natural sources (plants, fungi, bacteria, animals, insects);
2. The presentation of the novel pharmacological activity or molecular targets of known natural substances;
3. The use of natural compounds as a synthetic scaffold for the development of new agents with more potent activity and their possible application in medicine. Please note that special attention in this Special Issue will be paid to the correct identification of the chemical structure of substances and a clear description of their biological/pharmacological effects.

We welcome authors who can contribute original research related to natural substances, their bioactivity, and their mechanisms of action.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
